Update []:
Wow, things are getting hot out there on the court. NBA 2K has hit back at EA Sports’ College Basketball announcement.
Responding to a fan who said 2K Sports needs to bring back its College Hoops 2K series, a spokesperson said “the campus has been quiet for too long”.
In a further statement on the subject, the publisher told us:
“2K is the undisputed home of basketball gaming. We have a strong history with college hoops and are exploring exciting new ways to bring athletes and schools to life. Class is in session.”

So it sounds like 2K Sports very much will have a response to EA Sports’ new College Basketball game.
It’s going to be interesting to see whether it integrates this into NBA 2K, or brings back its own spin-off game to compete directly with EA Sports’ effort.
Original Story: EA Sports College Football 25 is the best-selling sports game in US history, so it’s perhaps no surprise the publisher has its eyes on the prize when it comes to basketball.
2K Sports has a stranglehold on professional basketball with its NBA 2K series, which beat out EA Sports’ own NBA Live franchise years ago.
But the publisher has today announced plans to bring back college basketball.
While the announcement barely amounts to anything more than an image of an immaculately rendered basketball and the words “bring the madness” and “let’s run it back”, the hashtag CBB (or College Basketball) confirms the publisher’s plans.
The last NCAA Basketball game launched in 2009 on the PS3, so it’s been over 15 years since the last entry in the series. College Hoops 2K8 signalled 2K Sports’ exit from the category even earlier in 2007.
We suspect it’s going to take a few years for EA Sports to spin up this title, but considering the success of EA Sports College Football 25, it knows there’s a lot of money on the line here.
It’ll be interesting to see whether 2K Sports greenlights its own rival, or just cedes the category to EA Sports entirely.

That’s kinda mad considering the state of NBA Live by the end. We’ll see if they’ve learned anything but they really haven’t made a decent basketball game since… 2010?
2028 is the expected release date and, supposedly, they'll have both the men's and women's teams. It may not be a yearly release. In the off years, EA will release a title update to refresh the rosters.
This is all according to Matt Brown

Bring back EA Sports BIG.
Id love to play a basketball game thats not 2k but i couldnt care less about college basketball and will never understand why americans love it this much
Anyone outside the USA buying these?
“There’s nothing like college sports”except the premier league lol
Stop trying to compete with 2K directly and make an complete alternative. How amazing would NBA Street do today, you guys can be arcade and 2k does realism. Both games can easily coexist!
the college bball games were some of my favorite games back then , esp march maddness can't wait for this.
Seeing as 2k is actively ruining their game, I’d love to see a college bball game made by someone else. College brings some unique stuff to the table: recruiting, a huge amount of teams, rankings, and of course March madness. Remaking some of the amazing college venues with the crowds going insane will be awesome. I really like how they implemented the college atmosphere and the impact it has on the game in NCAA football.
*it's 1996 and you've been playing NBA Live 96, Fifa 96 and Madden 97 just came out on your Saturn.
"wow EA must be the greatest company on EARTH!"
@Cry_Zero well prior to the past season or two. College athletes weren’t paid. So played with school pride and heart. The fans and the players bled the schools colors. Not unlike teams and fans of the Premier League. The NBA is too diluted by the stars crying constantly and the league favoring the big markets for their money. So I guess the reason in one word. Passion.
@nessisonett since 2006, their last good NBA live game was NBA Live 07
Can't wait for another MTX hellscape by both companies.
All 2k do Is ruin there games with microtranactions
These exclusivity deals need to go…bring back the days where everyone had a licensed sports game and let the best one each year win.
The fact there sports games stop working after 3 years should be concerning and probably reported
As long as they don't make them terrible. Surprised it was colleges or other factors as to why they never made other ones though. But with how particular, not surprised as to why.
Well who wants to go for the pre 2009 games then on older platforms? Probably a fair amount of people I assume.
It is sad they have very few sports games due to deals the companies make. It was interesting to Midway's more edgy, not as much as some TV show that showed more as they like to make the games more clean and because games weren't accepted of mature content back then either. Or many others of the Sega and many others type games, the large variety. It's kind of how I can see racing games there was so many different styles now very few due to the way communities or car makers are, but instead it's sports and more a single company to give the license/likenesses.
I have no interest in these types of sports games but it is still sad to see a large gap in street, college or others as to me they really offered a lot of interesting ideas looking outside in.
Even EA Big I didn't care for more so Shox, the one racing game or only one under that brand but there was a fair amount to that brand back then too even if not my thing.
I hope they bring back NBA Live. EA's basketball games are better than 2k's IMO.
Sports fans still in the claws of EA, i see.
