Re: Stellar Blade PS5 Fans Irate Over Alleged Censorship

MrMagic

@Kidfunkadelic83 "so what happens when you start getting story and gameplay elements censored for you?"

Sorry to be the one to tell you this but games have been getting censored since the 80's and there's lists of them online but a lot more get censored behind the scenes in order to get rated you just don't usually find out about them.

Censorship definitely sucks and deserves some pushback but it is also needed to a certain degree so no matter what it'll never stop, it will just continue behind the scenes as usual. The studios will just be more careful next time to make sure people don't find out about it.

Re: Stellar Blade Half-Second Input Delay Due to 'Game's Style of Animation', Says Director

MrMagic

@Lup Don't worry people tried to crucify them for it but the fact that Elden Ring has more input delay means they didn't have a leg to stand on. It makes me wonder how many people here who are claiming to have an issue with it also love Elden Ring.

I'm also definitely against censorship as well but I'm not stupid enough to ignore the fact ratings boards exist. Porn is actually illegal in South Korea so it stands to reason that their ratings board are probably a little stricter about this sort of thing and the same goes for gore in Japan. Did people with short attention spans already forgot the EA guy complaining just the other day about Dead Space Remake being banned in Japan.

Re: Stellar Blade (PS5) - A Stellar PS5 Debut Destined to Become a Fan Favourite

MrMagic

@TruestoryYep He's probably talking about that tweet that 2 feminists at the studio apparently got fired for trying to interfere with the game, which was never proven by the way and the tweet and the random account was conveniently deleted a couple of hours later. This was at a time when certain people were doing their best to try and make everyone turn against the game because of the character design, so make of that what you will, also he seems a bit annoyed by that 8/10 lol, I wonder why.

Re: Get a Glimpse of Stellar Blade's Fearsome Naytiba Bosses on PS5

MrMagic

@LikelySatan Yeah it is on the playstation blog now. They hired someone famous from Korean cinema to design the monsters for them out of clay and then scanned them in.

He's worked on some Korean movies like The Host. I've never seen it but I checked rotten tomatoes and it has a 93% score from critics.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Sold Around 2 Million Copies, PS5 Player Data Suggests

MrMagic

That says peak daily active users not sales. Do people look at steam concurrent and say that's how many copies it sold? That's just the peak DAU it got. The sales will obviously be higher than that but how much higher is impossible to know unless square gives a number but after the way the journalist's reacted after squares ff16 comments I don't blame them for not saying anything.

Re: Sony Hires Superstar Korean Cheerleader to Cosplay as Stellar Blade's Eve

MrMagic

@LikelySatan It started before that, they were arguing on places like Twitter and Reddit at first. Ironically an Xbox fanboy seems to be the one who started it because he was unhappy about the hate Starfield got so he tried to get people to turn on Stellar Blade but it seems he may have actually helped sell the game instead of hindering it.

At the same time there was a lot of crude jokes that some people thought were distasteful so they began to respond to them by calling people incels, neckbeards and perverts etc and it just escalated. Clout chasing YouTubers fanned the flames then IGN, Kotaku etc got involved and here we are.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing the Stellar Blade Demo?

MrMagic

@pirlega just click on PS5 standard edition on the app on your phone and the demo pops up or just click on the circle with 3 dots icon (...) on the PSN store stellar blade page on your PS5 and the demo comes up as an option.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for April 2024 Announced

MrMagic

I would never have bought immortals and was actually waiting for it to hit plus because to me it seems like the perfect game for it and Skul looks like a good 2d side scroller for old school and indie fans so I'll check that out as well. I have zero interest in anything Minecraft though.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin Off to a Weak Start at Retail

MrMagic

FC24 has just went on sale for £20 so no doubt that played a part but the new games definitely seem to be underperforming, at least physically. I don't think Dogma was ever as big an IP as people made it out to be, then you've got the fact Ronin's graphics aren't appealing to the ooh! Shiny crowd. The same with Peach, it probably appeals more to young girls and women but like a lot of Nintendo games it'll probably still have some legs and hang around a lot longer than the other two.

Re: Devs Allegedly Pondering the Point of Sony's PS5 Pro Upgrade

MrMagic

These developers are contradicting themselves. If there's more juice to be squeezed then why aren't they squeezing? This just makes them sound incompetent and lazy.

I think some developers have already hit their limits on what they are capable of on the PS5 but budgets and deadlines also play a big part on the level of polish they can do. The real complaint they've got here is they obviously don't want to do any extra work because they believe they'll just mainly be selling to the same people and if there's not much extra cash on the table for them then they don't want to do any extra work.

Sony has apparently made the Pro's extra power as easy to utilise as possible and if I'm remembering correctly we also had similar complaints about PS4 Pro from anonymous Devs. I don't care what anyone says though, I'm buying the Pro because these same developers who are complaining will continue to put out games that have lower internal resolutions and unstable framerates.

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Players Plot Mass NPC Murder to Boost the Frame Rate

MrMagic

I'm glad I decided to skip this at the last minute. Not only does it run poorly but it has microtransactions that they hid from reviewers. They want you to pay to change your characters appearance and they are also trying to sell fast travel items for real cash.

I definitely won't be supporting it that's for sure and Capcom is probably going to lose a lot of goodwill over it, at least I hope they do so they change course quickly.

Re: PS5 Pro's Proprietary DLSS-Esque Upscaler Sounds Superb

MrMagic

@Sakai @Professor_Niggle There's 2358 games on PS5 not including the back compatible games and only about 7 games run at 30fps. We also have no idea which ones are CPU heavy and which ones are GPU bound or which ones are just down to bad optimisation and lazy devs, so as long as PSSR is a good upscaler then it should be able to improve every game that already has a 60fps performance mode and every game that gets one, also every GPU bound game can obviously be improved as well.

The 7 Games are -

  • Marquette - which is also on the Switch so probably should already be 60fps.
  • Cartel Tycoon - which looks like a mobile game to me.
  • The Quarry - Interactive Horror game. Probably benefits from being more cinematic anyway.
  • Gotham Knights - I've never played it but I've heard there's no reason for it to be 30fps other than incompetence.
  • The Medium - Port of an Xbox game, apparently this is 30fps because it renders 2 worlds at once, at least that's what an Xbox fan told me.
  • Pacific Drive - Unlocked 30fps but I can't see any reason why it doesn't have a performance mode either.
  • Dragons Dogma 2 - Unlocked 30fps and the only game on here that most people will care about.

If there's any more I'm not aware of then tell me and I'll add them.

Re: PS5 Pro's Rumoured Spectral Super Resolution Tech Could Be Transformative

MrMagic

Magg from Colt Eastwood's channel is claiming that his source at EA/Respawn told him that they tested PSSR on Jedi Survivor on the Pro devkit and they got a locked 120fps at 4k.

Not sure why an Xbox YouTuber would lie about that but It still sounds a bit too good to be true to me. I guess we'll see though.

I'm definitely buying a Pro anyway.
