Update []:
With the final Destiny 2 update now live, the PS Plus Extra version of Destiny 2 is now available. Again, this is an updated Legacy Collection from 2025 that grants you access to the base game and the vast majority of its expansions and seasonal content. See below for more details.
Original Story: Today marks the end of Bungie's content support for Destiny 2, and with it, the team is making a big Legacy Collection — that includes the base game and many of its expansions — available on PS Plus Extra.
As per the PlayStation Blog, the 2025 version of the Destiny 2: Legacy Collection is due to be added to the membership service today. It's not live on PS Plus Extra just yet, so I'll update this article once it is.
This collection includes the following alongside the base game:
- The Final Shape
- Lightfall
- The Witch Queen
- Beyond Light
- Shadowkeep
- Forsaken
- 30th Anniversary Pack
- Pit of Heresy Dungeon
- Shattered Throne Dungeon
- Grasp of Avarice Dungeon
As far as I can tell, the only things you don't gain access to via the Legacy Collection for 2025 are The Edge of Fate and Renegades, with the latter being the Star Wars-themed expansion. Both are currently on sale, though, so you could pick them up for cheap if you're quick about it.
This is a bonus PS Plus Extra game that lives outside of the usual monthly announcements. For the complete lineup of PS Plus Extra games coming in July 2026, Sony should confirm the selection tomorrow.
Even though it's ending, will you play Destiny 2 via PS Plus Extra? Let us know in the comments below.

I literally have every single expansion/pack up to the final shape, so this doesn't help me much, BUT for other people this could a great chance to jump in and (finally) give it a go.... just don't expect a great onboarding expirences 😅
Never been my goto type game but I shall definitely give it a look. Not a great online shooter fan, which is criminal I know.
Are they giving back the content they took away from paying customers?
I already played all of this through PS plus somehow a few months ago. To be honest, this is a great way to play Destiny. I just did a focussed play through of as much story as I could, although missing all the Raids. It just about made sense 😂 Just wish I could have played the stuff they vaulted as well 😒
From 6pm tonight and with this, this is probably the best time to ever play Destiny 2, you don't need to worry about missing out on things or catching up or grinding things out, and it's packed with stuff to do as well.
Im sad it's ending but at least it's being left in a great state to play for anyone who wants to.
@bindiana Do you know why they sunset certain content ?
Never really played Destiny so maybe this is a good time to play as it’s free. Does it have an offline / single player element or is it multiplayer only?
@Jayphex its PVE and PVP and co-op so you choose how you want to play, some of the content becomes easier with extra members in your fireteam or it becomes seriously hard.
@Jayphex There is a lot of content you can play on your own, but some of the best content are the raids and dungeons which need 6 and 3 players, and the MP side can be fun but I fear it would be very sweaty jumping into it now, hope this helps!
I believe this doesn’t include dungeon keys for 6 dungeons(over 3 packs), which you need to buy separately and I don’t think they go on sale.
@Ypmud Yes I do and I think its a very scummy and anti consumer practise. Do you know why its scummy and anti consumer?
@bindiana The reason its been sunset is because the footprint of the game would of gone north of 250GB and been insane also the engine takes forever to load in maps for certain planet's and raids (Levithan takes 27 hours to load in so they can make adjustments) and LW which has not been sunset is the exact same.
While I do understand the way people are looking at this you gotta remember no one wants a bloated install on their console/pc for one game so trimming the fat was the only way to go.
Do I need to install all of that to be able to jump in this evening?
@bindiana Basically what I am saying is there comes a time where supporting old content on a live service model becomes too time consuming and need to know when to cut it, if you put that cut content back in now you would degrade the overall performance and experience that players will have and also can leave it in a very broken state (yes I am looking at the levithan raid)
@VanguardKaiser its going to be about 200GB install if you dont have it installed already
@Ypmud I honestly can't believe anyone would defend Bungie over this issue. Well the £100 I paid my experience has been degraded as I cant play anything I paid for. Taking away the story degrades the experience as old players cant play it and newcomers have no idea what is going on. Least you dont have as big of an install now so everything is good!
@bindiana Ok so below is the full list of D2 stuff
The Red War
Curse of Osiris
Warmind
Forsaken
Season of the forge
Season of the drifter
Season of Opulence
Shadowkeep
Season of the undying
Season of the dawn
season of the worthy
Beyond light
Season of arrivals
Season of hunt
season of chosen
season of splicer
The Witch queen
Season of lost
Season of risen
season of haunted
season of plunder
season of deep
The final shape
Echoes
Reventant
Heresy
Edge of fate
Reclamation
Renegades
Lawless
Thats the full 9 years worth of content in there and a rough working out if all that content was kept there it would clear north of 1.8TB in size probably closer to 2.5TB in size
tell me now is it worth to keep all that in the game at the cost of your storage at its insane costs at present ?
While I am not defending Bungo you definitely know what you are getting yourself into when you buy into a live service game
@bindiana The problem here is you can not please everyone and they did their best with the new light stuff it wasnt great but its a damn sight better than dropping you into something with 0 introduction, I was lucky to be there day 1 for D2 and know what it was like and it was a hot mess back in 2017 double primaries sucked big time and wasnt fun now its actually enjoyable in 2026 bring on tonight and hopefully Bungo get the green light for d3 or a d1 remastered
@Ypmud All that content is paid content you would have more of an argument if the game was free 2 play and relied on cosmetics and battle pass purchases like Fortnite. If the engine was so unweildly why did they not use a new engine they have had enough time and money over the years. If they could not sustain Destiny 2 without removing paid content make Destiny 3. All their decisions have been poor over the years a company that got worse after leaving Activision of all people. Bungie is the worse live service company in the industry.
@bindiana That is in your opinion, personally it takes balls from a company to be realistic about what they can and cant support.
Just a curious question do you use Windows as your primary operating system ?
@bindiana Engines are bloody expensive to develop or licence from someone else that supports what they need.
To be fair the tiger engine is a great engine its just architecturally an old dog that at its very essence is from the late 90's (much like Unreal engine but I will give Epic their dues each iteration of Unreal engine is basically a rewrite of the previous iteration to make sure they dont get bogged down like most software house that build games) to the best of my knowledge there is no engine around like the tiger engine which means they need to write a new engine and that takes an absurd amount of time these days to support the modern minimum requirements in an online FPS game.
Your argument has its merits its just a bit short sighted and probably screams you are still a bit raw over them sunsetting content that was causing bloat and also a pain to support.
I never played through the Final Shape, so I bought that for $3 on PC and just finished it last night. I'll likely play whatever free content they release today for the last content drop and then uninstall Destiny 2. I've got close to 700 hours in the game over the years. I really enjoy it, but there are many other great games of play.
I do hope the send off is very strong, so they make a Destiny 3, but it also feels like Destiny 2 is the end of the series. There's a sense of finality to it.
@Oram77 I'm looking to dive back into this but it all looks a little daunting. Do you recommend which expansions to try and which to avoid? I've only completed the main campaign back when it released, but am curious to try all this other content.
I wonder if these will finally include the dungeon keys? Knowing Bungie probably not.
Still waiting for a Destiny Remastered. All I want is to be able to play the game at 60fps. It remains leaps and bounds better than Destiny 2.
@JB_Whiting just play the campaigns In order
Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queens, Light Fall, Final Shape
@PaperAlien Well, yeah I get that, but my time is precious and I don't want to trudge through the weaker expansions. I'm not fussed about the storyline and just want to shoot stuff
So they are giving the same that is basically dead now.. great move.
@Leinad7 No longer adding content is not dead. The product playable right now is pretty good and has an incredible amount of content.
Do you consider all games to be dead the moment they are no longer actively developed? Like, Breath of the Wild is a dead game? Or Baldurs gate 3?
Honestly the game is so bloated now, like most SAAS games, it’s pretty impenetrable if you’re returning. You would be better starting afresh but there’s still well over 10 different currencies for upgrades and stuff. Great game but it’s become far too complex.
@bindiana there is no argument bungie took the stuff out and people payed for it cry me a river. Complain to bungie you sound like you need a job.
