A few weeks ago I reported on major PS5 security vulnerabilities which have been causing loyal PlayStation customers to lose access to their accounts.
As exposed by Sacred Symbols podcaster Colin Moriarty, lax customer service has resulted in bad actors hijacking various PSN accounts using just a couple of pieces of publicly available information – like an email address and a transaction date.
But it seems like Sony may be taking the problem seriously.
X (or Twitter) user PorkPoncho spotted two new job listings for a Senior Fraud Strategist at PlayStation headquarters in both San Mateo and London.

The roles are seeking individuals who are “passionate about protecting our players and platforms from fraud and abuse”.
Here’s what the full listing says:
“As a Senior Fraud Strategist, you will contribute deep fraud subject-matter expertise, help shape and deliver fraud strategies, and lead defined workstreams across fraud mitigation initiatives. You will work closely with product, engineering, analytics, operations, and external partners to identify fraud risks, design scalable solutions, and drive measurable impact.”
Sony’s looking for individuals with at least eight years of experience in this area, so clearly it’s not messing around and wants candidates who can come in and hit the ground running.
Obviously this may have been an area it always intended to hire for, but the timing does seem conspicuous considering the very recent reporting on the abovementioned social engineering scams.
At the end of the day, while the platform holder probably should have never found itself in this position to begin with, I’m hopeful the firm can fill these roles fast and begin working towards a safer, more secure PSN promptly.
Many of us have thousands of dollars and cherished gaming memories tied up in our PlayStation accounts – it’s absolutely imperative Sony keeps them safe.
