Re: Poll: How Much Are You Willing to Pay for PS5?

Juvenlast

Given the pricing info on the series S coming out today at $299 - Sony needs to communicate (perhaps over communicate) that the PS5 digital is not the same kind of system as the Series S. And that comes down to price too. Pricing their two SKUs at $100 apart would be a mistake. Pricing the PS5 at the same price point as the Series X would also be a mistake. Therefore, I think Sony's play here is - PS5 = $449 and PS5 digital = $399.

Re: Hands On: NHL 21 Is Looking a Lot Like a Hockey Game

Juvenlast

I think this is wise. For a yearly game to try to do a game that straddles the line between generations has always been peculiar. I bought NHL 15 for PS4. Compared to its PS3 counterpart it was fairly stripped down. Although it looked prettier. Still - I felt like I got half a game. Good move! Wait till next year to nail NHL 22

Re: The Last of Us 2 Director Discusses Online Vitriol

Juvenlast

We live in a world of vitriol. If you don't like something - you trash it. If you REALLY don't like it, you tell everyone they are stupid for liking it. If you are halfway intelligent and can put some sentences together - you do this with as much convincing logic as you can. It is thought police either way. You aren't allowed to think this way, say this, etc.

The developers at ND are well within their rights to make whatever game, with whatever themes, and do whatever they will with their characters.

BUT - if developers are allowed to do that - then so are anyone on the internet allowed to reject those themes, and poor handling of characters.

The bottom line is - either everyone is allowed the freedom to choose what they think is best - or no one is. You can't have something in the middle.

If ND wanted all roses and platitudes, they made the wrong game.

Re: PS5 Praise from Crytek Developer Retracted After Calling It the Better Next-Gen Console

Juvenlast

Commenting after the update:

Am I the only one blaming all this on Sony? As much as this comment does seem to be VERY positive for Sony - If it is true, Sony stands to gain nothing yet from this being revealed at this time. If I was Sony and my system was practically more advanced and better to program on than the competition... I would want that information as well as direct comparisons such as how fast it suspends multiple games... saved until the last moment. Then reveal that my system is $100 cheaper and let the good times roll.

I think this is Sony's doing to hush this up.

Re: Poll: How Much Does PS5 Backwards Compatibility Matter to You?

Juvenlast

The biggest thing here is support. The likelihood that people still own PS1 games is fairly small. I consider myself to be a pretty big Sony fan, but my PS1 collection is fairly small.

But if they are able to emulate these games and sell them at an acceptable price (like 20 games for $10) - backward compatibility will be much more worthy of being called a selling point. If it is only available for those who have the discs still, I don't think it actually matters much.

Re: Control DLC Is Heavily Discounted Before Any Content Is Released

Juvenlast

Although it is probably a flaw of mine, I have found that I rarely embrace DLC even if I loved the game.

I loved Bloodborne. I mean... LOVED IT! Couldn't get enough. Platinumed it. I bought the Old Hunters DLC. Never finished it. I bought the complete edition of Fallout 4. Loved it. Platinumed it. Still haven't played the DLC.

However - things like Dishonored (Dishonoured - you're welcome ya Brits) with death of the outsider and Uncharted: Lost Legacy - I completed or platinumed these.

Moral of the story for me - I'd rather have a significant stand alone DLC than several piecemeal offerings.

The only exception in recent history was Spider-Man. But looking back on it, I'm not sure I actually enjoyed the DLC that much... hmm...

Re: Talking Point: What if the PS5 Could Play Games from Every PlayStation Console?

Juvenlast

Here is my official prediction.

PS5 will release with Full support for backward compatable games from PS1-PS4 era.

However, it will not simply be (what you own will be playable)

Basically owning a PS5 and PS plus with PS5 will come with a PSnow sub. That PSnow sub will include the entire digital library of Playstation extending as far back as PS1. There will obviously be some games missing from that lineup - and there may be a price hike to include that... but that is my prediction.

Re: Talking Point: PlayStation Plus Is in Desperate Need of an Overhaul

Juvenlast

With PS5 on the horizon, I think it would be quite fair at the current price point to offer 1 PS4 game every other month and 1 PS5 game every other month, along with an automatic subscription to PS Now.

Right now they are boasting over 700 games on Now. Give PS Plus subscribers access to Now and then focus on the games you give through the subscription being top tier releases. In this model they would only be giving out 6 PS4 games and 6 Ps5 games a year, enabling them to spend a little more money to developers and get those better games. But it would also open the floodgates to hundreds more games that PS plus subscribers would not have had access to.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for April 2019?

Juvenlast

I feel like this article should have been posted a week from today. I have personally never played either of them. I have only seen videos of their gameplay. I have heard mixed reviews. So asking me if I am happy with them is... premature?

I mean, don't judge a book by its pushsquare review right?

Re: Google Poised to Announce Potential PlayStation Competitor

Juvenlast

The message coming out of that E3 (you know which one it was) was that Xbox requires an always connected system that tracks DRM in a new way. Sony said, we are giving you what we always have only better. How did that turn out again?

Xbox is fighting from behind trying to recoup what they lost in their messaging. (btw I still run into non-gamers or non-this gen holders that think Xbox still requires all this)

Google already has a PR problem since they obviously and intentionally spy on people... and now they are going to have an online only always connected streaming game system...

Seems like a bad move to me.

Re: Poll: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Juvenlast

@Paranoimia Exactly - I think going to a recommend to not recommend scoring system with various levels in-between, establishes a better system than trying to rank the game. In other words you go from saying - is the game good to saying is the game worth buying.

Some games that are artistically good, are BOOOOORING

Re: Poll: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Juvenlast

@Shepherd_Tallon My point would be that recommending bad games and not recommending good games would lead you to not trust that particular site... which is really the point isn't it. Going to a recommend or not recommend with various levels within that makes the trustability of the particular site so important.

Re: Poll: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Juvenlast

@madcow78 This actually communicates my point. When you go to a system of recommend or not recommend, you start learning who to trust and not to trust. I don't think you really get that with a 1-10 model

Re: Poll: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Juvenlast

What is the point of a review score? Why do them? According to pushsquare it is:

"Our belief has always been that if review scores help you, our audience, decide on whether to purchase a game..."

Which means than a 1-10 ranking system absolutely irrelevant and makes it incredibly difficult to decide what is what.

For instance - A 6/10 is 60% of the points that were achievable. This, in most places of education is a failing grade. In baseball if someone hits 60% of the time, they are an amazing hitter. So what does a 60% mean in the game reviewing world? And how does that accomplish the goal of informing gamers of whether they should purchase or not.

I know there have been some 6/10 games that I have purchased and loved. And 6/10 even on this site isn't that bad of a score... BUT I think it is at best uncertain what a 6/10 means because it is up to the interpreter of that score.

So what if you went to something like the following:

Waste of money
Purchase or rent at your own risk
Maybe rent it first
You should own it eventually
Must own it soon
Day 1 purchase

What this does is establishes a reputation for pushsquare. Now this is risky, but if I purchase games that you say I should or must own and I love them... I am going to trust that endorsement way more than a ambiguous scoring system.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Does Cross-Play Matter to You?

Juvenlast

Cross play is great. It should happen. But not with 3 separate networks. The only real way to make this work is if the three got together to form some sort of xbox, nintendo, sony network together. All three companies manage and agree to terms in how it is run and reap a 1/3 share each of the profit from the service. That way you could play Fortnite or others on the cross play network or the PSN (XBL etc) I see this as an addition to PS Plus and Xbox live - There would be a 1 time fee - perhaps even per game - giving you a ticket to play on the cross-play network. This would make sure competition is still necessary in that you still have to produce a quality system and a quality network for your console - but also it allows for cross play where all companies benefit from it.

That is really the only way I see this happening in the near future. At least while there is a clear winner in the market share

Re: Moody Action RPG Vampyr Goes Gold Ahead of Release Next Month

Juvenlast

@KirbyTheVampire With a name like that I'd expect you to jump right in.

I rarely pre-order. But even if the combat is not polished - I know this developer can write a story. It is a balance of course but a good narrative can cover up many gameplay flaws.

That is why The order was only so so - average gameplay and the story was... also average.

Re: Live Audience Will Be Present for Sony's E3 2018 Showcase

Juvenlast

All I got out of it is that the presentation will be more focused this year on a handful of exclusives to PS4. In other words - if you came here looking for big time 3rd party reveals... this is not the show you're looking for.

EDIT: After reading the other article about 3rd parties and indies being there... Count me confused also

Re: Rumour: Alleged PlayStation 5 Details Make Their Way Online

Juvenlast

I have long beleived that we would see the divide between PC and console diminish which would eventually culminate in a console that could be upgraded. This would extend the life of the console - and if you do it right - you can make it simple even for non-computer-literate people. "Simply plug this $100 part into your system and double your graphical capabilities. Need a better wifi adapter? Spend $50, plug it into this port and away you go. More ram -insert here for $80." etc. This could extend the life of the console into the double digits of years.
