Re: Gran Turismo 7's Glitzy Free PSVR2 Upgrade Adds VR Showroom Mode

Gooseman42

@Dobbos
I'm not sure about the 3rd person view, can't remember if it was there in GT Sport but in a recent interview on Famitsu with the creator of GT, Kaz Yamauchi he mentions how GT7 was developed from the start with VR in mind, and not just a conversion from the flat game and how they have tried to reduce motion sickness (though the site translation refers to it as the 'drunk' feeling!)
Some of the relevant parts quoted below:
"The resolution of the original PS VR machine was low, so even if it was properly rendered, we couldn't solve the problems of motion sickness caused by the resolution and the unnaturalness of distant objects being unclear.

 This time, the resolution of the head-mounted display panel and the power of the PS5 have improved the drawing ability, and it has become possible to solve it. In addition to being able to output 60fps at normal times, panning and tilting can also be rendered at 120fps with reprojection, greatly improving image quality.

 Also, I no longer get drunk. Driving continuously for 30 minutes or an hour was unthinkable before, but with the combination of PS VR2 and " GT7 ", such play is now possible."

Re: Sony Cuts PSVR2 Launch Sale Estimates by Half, New Report Claims

Gooseman42

Takashi Mochizuki who wrote the article does have a history of getting Sony figures wrong as Sammy has pointed out, so I'll take this with a pinch of salt for now.

There's no doubt this is a damaging article and I see a lot of folks jumping on the VR is doomed and too niche, it's too expensive, there are not enough AAA games at launch, it should connect to the PC etc. None of which I particularly agree with.
However, it is clear that Sony could be doing more to push marketing of the PSVR2 outside of Blog posts and getting the device in the hands of influencers and journalists (which is also welcome).
The launch period line-up is solid and varied and while there are a lot of ports in there they all look likely to be the very best iterations of that game.
Games like Horizon, RE Village, GT7, No Mans Sky, Kayak VR, Song and the Smoke, Switchback, Walking Dead etc are all high-end VR experiences releasing in that window.

I do believe that Sony could have done a much better job with Marketing the PSVR2. While VR is challenging to advertise the same way as flat-screen games, they simply have not given the air time to both confirmed and unconfirmed titles. I want to see full gameplay drops of a lot of these titles from Sony and talks from Developers. The Perp Games showcase was a step in the right direction but one Sony should be leading with.

I don't think we need any more first-party titles at launch (you wouldn't release God of War & Last of Us in the same month. However, a showcase or direct with some teases for potential upcoming games like Persistence 2, Astrobot, Firewall, Farpoint 2 hopefully Alyx etc just to show potential buyers they are as invested in the PSVR2 future as they have made out to be. It's never going to be as mainstream as their console hardware but it always seems to be a footnote of their plans and just don't really seem committed to promoting it in the same way, as others have mentioned the recent PS5 advertising underlines this.
Demo pods doing cross-country tours and in retailers would be a great way to get this into potential buyers hands too.

I do hope there's a Showcase very soon to address this.

Re: Free Gran Turismo 7 PSVR2 Update Confirmed for Launch

Gooseman42

This is excellent if not totally surprising news. I am disappointed in the lack of PSVR2 info from this presentation even though I tried to temper my expectations with it being CES. Would have been great if Sony had announced a few more in-house VR projects and confirmed if there would be a pack-in demo disc as with VR Worlds for PSVR though.

Re: Resident Evil Village Is a PSVR2 Launch Game, And It's Free

Gooseman42

@Omnistalgic
This is probably one of the biggest launch line ups for hardware ever, if you also factor in unlisted stuff and free upgrades like No Mans Sky, Pistol Whip etc! Sure I want Astrobot, HL Alyx and also GT7 at some point, but there needs to be some drip feed of releases throughout the year. There’s enough quality and varied titles for launch. Most of us can only play/ afford so many games at once!

Re: Actress Ella Balinska Anchors Massive Forspoken PS5 Showcase

Gooseman42

@Nepp67
This. I'm no prude but the swearing is just totally unnecessary and I also turned the voices to 0. The rest of the dialogue is awful, and don't agree that this is in a good way like some of the other comments suggest. Feels completely disconnected and forced. Truly horrendous. The combat is satisfying though but UI overly complex and not explained well in the demo. One for a sale methinks.

Re: Jaw Dropping Kayak Sim Targeting PSVR2 Launch Day

Gooseman42

I think some folk for the PC version have strapped a stick to their Controllers. I believe there’s a variety of control options in the current version too. Also really excited to play this on PSVR2 as it’s one of the more immersive & current gen looking VR titles announced.

Re: Reminder: PSVR2 Pre-Orders Begin on 15th November

Gooseman42

Sony is playing its cards frustratingly close to its chest in its usual secretive/arrogant fashion, they must be confident that the hardware is going to sell itself but it wouldn't have hurt to have had a VR showcase last Thursday. They could have announced launch games, and future titles like GT7, Astrobot sequel and fingers crossed Half-Life Alyx without even showing any footage. Appreciate some deals may not be done like the latter but I don't think their marketing budget is the problem.
Would be also good to know if there is a pack-in demo disc, like there was with PSVR1 and more free updates to PSVR1 games (think there are only around 12 confirmed so far)
Despite this I'm still ready to pre-order because I'm sure they will have plenty of exciting titles coming, so I guess I'm part of the problem. Slaps self.

Re: PS Studios Malaysia Achieves Next Major Milestone with Futuristic Workspace

Gooseman42

@nomither6 Wow, way to misread a comment. I was referring to the welfare of the workforce, not good business practice, though one can certainly aid the other.There’s no mystery or political aspect to know that keeping your staff happy is good for their well-being and can help productivity. Without these talented people who make our games there are no gamers, like you & me right?

Re: PS Studios Malaysia Achieves Next Major Milestone with Futuristic Workspace

Gooseman42

@Flaming_Kaiser
Absolutely agree. The number of stories we hear of mistreated Devs and poor working practices, why on earth shouldn't Sony look after their staff with a comfortable, enjoyable collaborative space to work their magic? Especially if it means better games as a result.
Not sure if @KundaliniRising333 has any awareness of company or people management, but I sincerely hope not with that naive attitude.

Re: Valkyrie Elysium Has Multiple Endings, Roughly 20 Hours Long, with More Content Coming

Gooseman42

Looks like I'm definitely in the minority here. Thought the demo was generally quite bland and generic apart from a couple of interesting mechanics. Also thought the graphics looked like a PS2/3-era game in some areas like environments and textures. That's why demos are good though eh? Each to their own and all that! Also appreciate it's not the finished article but all I have to go on for now.

Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad

Gooseman42

Backwards compatibility is always nice but I really don't get this entitlement that it has to be included in every device going forward, especially from a device such as the PSVR which makes use of such low comparative and non-standard tech (like move controllers). The PSVR 2 while innovating is making it easy for Devs to port existing titles and take advantage of the new features.
I've paid my money for the previous generation of hardware and games and feel I've got hours of fun and happiness out of them, and don''t feel Sony owe me the right to be able play them on the PSVR2. So let's move forwards in this exciting genre, there are plenty of games announced and being worked on. And the porting from other VR headsets like Quest and Vive etc will be a lot easier I'd imagine than from PSVR.

Re: PSVR2 Not Looking Cheap as Impressive Features Debut in Hype-Inducing Ad

Gooseman42

@thefourfoldroot1 Completely agree, I'm looking forwards not backwards. I love my PSVR but there are not more than around 10 games I'd want to take forward, and going on recent reports Devs are working on updates/patches/ports to existing PSVR titles to make them compatible anyway. No Mans Sky for example (one of my 10). I'd much rather experience these games as the Developers closer to what the developers envisioned and take advantage of the features of PSVR2.
This raises a separate topic if of what the charge for upgrade will be, but original PSVR games were generally cheaper than PS4 titles.
Adding bits to the hardware or compromising for backward compatibility only could add to the cost of development for both hardware and software. The controller mapping and eye tracking, haptics, Foveated rendering, not using separate camera/dual shock light bar etc are all obstacles to backward compatibility, it's just not straightforward.

There is so much high-end tech in PSVR2 that will add to its price, and the cost of components is still high.
VR is still pretty much in its infancy and shouldn't be held back by its past.
Anyway, I'm really excited personally, my missus not as much for our bank balance!

Re: Mini Review: Metal: Hellsinger (PS5) – Brilliant Gameplay Surrounded by Banality

Gooseman42

Have to say I'm glad this was on Game Pass, as there's no way I'd pay more than £10 for it. The music mechanic is quite novel and addictive but in all honesty, I'd much rather have the natural flow of Doom gameplay. The graphics are smooth and functional at best, but bland and generic which also goes for the level design and story as mentioned in the review. Was disappointed after reading other reviews.
Also. while I'm fine with the music style it seems odd to tie your whole game to a particular type which potentially isolates your user base, mixing it up a bit could have made it more widely appealing. But of course, it's demons and hell so has to be metal! (and I guess they would have had to change the title)

Re: The Quarry (PS5) - Maybe Until Dawn Was Just a Fluke

Gooseman42

Well this is where having a second reviewers opinion would be beneficial to give a balanced perspective. I know it's not always practical with the amount of workload reviewers have to do this on every game. Certainly for the big, full price releases though. Maybe as a suggestion you could have a regular contributors viewpoint?
For me the game is a 7, not without it's flaws but thoroughly enjoyed it with family in couch co-op.

Re: Sony Extremely Deliberate with PSVR2's Design, Immersion Goes Beyond Resolution

Gooseman42

@Snake_V5 While there is certainly some great PSVR games I would hope to play on PSVR 2, backwards compatibility is not a deal breaker for me. I believe it’s a medium which needs to escape some of the shackles of the past and look forward. I’m sure instead of backward compatibility there should be remastered/ re-released/enhanced PSVR2 versions of some of the existing greats like Beat Saber, Blood & Truth, Moss, No Man’s Sky etc. That would tick my boxes anyway!

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Less Excited for Deathloop on PS5 Than I Should Be

Gooseman42

I get some of the points made, but to not buy a game on principal because the sequel wont come out on your system is just plain daft.
If it's your type of game you're missing out. The crux of it is if the game really appeals to you and/or reviews well then support the Devs and buy it on release, regardless of who owns them. Fair enough if you're not really interested in it then wait until it's on sale/PS Now or on Gamepass if you're fortunate to have access to both.
I guess it's a bit like waiting for a movie to come out on a streaming service and not seeing it at the cinema, not that it's a long wait for most major release at the moment but that's another can of worms!
