@LifeGirl VR has been around for over 50 years in one form or another, and in gaming since the 90's, maybe you need look up the definition of the word 'fad'. Compared to many other forms of entertainment, it's also relatively inexpensive. @Triumph741 I think you know what they meant, you must be great fun at parties. Any more hairs to split? No-one knows for sure, yes, but if you've properly experienced (or able to experience VR) then you know exactly what @thefourfoldroot1 means.
@Lofty NBA 2K23 was not showing in the PS Plus list for me but if you choose the edition it comes up with a PS Plus version you can add to your library
While I am disappointed at Sonys lack of big announcements and overall support for PSVR2, to call it one step away from dead in the water is a bit sensationalist. There are some terrific titles already with many promising ones to come. It does frustrate me that Sony is being either tight lipped about titles it has in development from its own studios when it needs to give potential buyers a reason to go for PSVR2 over alternatives like Quest 3 for example. However, we can see what the device is really capable of in titles like GT7, RE8, Horizon and even more so in the recently released Red Matter 2 (still waiting for Push Squares review or even mention of this noteworthy addition to the library). I still think we’ve got plenty more to come, just wish Sony would have shown more commitment at the Showcase.
I suppose there could be a 2nd showcase and they are holding off on the big guns to see what Microsoft do at their event. Though who knows with Sony. We know they have plenty in development and some of those projects must surely be near completion, e.g. Team Asobi hasn't put out a full game release since Rescue Mission in 2018 (I'm not including the PS5 Playroom title 3 years ago). Also there's Bluepoints game, and stuff from, Sucker Punch, MM, Bend, Housemarque, Firesprite etc However, if that's how they are playing it then it's only pissing off their own fanbase and not really giving people a season to switch from Xbox with the content of the Wednesday's showcase. They didn't have any real push for PSVR2 and even put it in the shadow somewhat with the new handheld announcement. Can't understand why they didn't at least have a sizzle reel. Back to the waiting game.
@thefourfoldroot1 Yeah, Sony fluffed most of the showcase with blinkered arrogance and lack of awareness on what Gamers really want and no update on what almost all their 1st party studios are working on (that wasn't CGI or what we already knew about). Majority of those games were not exclusive either. The VR section was also a massive letdown, with not enough emphasis on exclusives or anything different that's going to sell PSVR2 going forward that other systems have. RE4 looked good as did the other titles shown like this one (though not sure if it any of it was actual gameplay). Where was Astrobot? Persistence/Ace Combat/Hybrid titles or even remasters/sequels to PSVR1 games. No HL Alyx either, but probably should give up on that one. I love my PSVR2 and there is plenty to look forward to, you just wouldn't know it from Sony's half-arsed display.
@themcnoisy That's 600k sales in the first 6 weeks though. We don't know what total sales to date are, especially now it's gone to retail and it hasn't been available over the holiday season yet.
@ThorsHammer Appreciate journalists don't always get things right, but this guy seems to be hell-bent on a mission to destroy Sonys Sales and reputation all to generate negativity and clicks. It just loses them respect and integrity, but hey Fox News has been getting away with it for years. When it's vindictive like this, I reckon they should be publicly shamed, thinking along the lines of the Game of Thrones walk Cersei had to do. That might reign in their bulls**t.
@thefourfoldroot1 yeah, unusual as Push Square have been covering a lot of PSVR2 releases recently. It's a busy time for releases & news coverage at the moment though. Plenty of Youtuber really positive impressions at least. @LiamCroft is there a review for RM2 in the works it's an important title in the PSVR2 release roster so far?
@MattBoothDev If it was wireless you wouldn't get the technical performance you do now though. Unless Sony comes up with a high bandwidth wireless addon, though not sure if the PS5 network spec is up to it. However, you can add a USB extender lead to lengthen the cable, I got a 1m one from Amazon which works perfectly.
While it won't be a priority for Rockstar I'd like to see a PSVR2 version of GTA. From PC Mods we know it can work, and would be a huge system seller for Sony.
@skaarj217 Sad to hear you're disappointed, not picking on you but this is definitely not the consensus of most owners. On your points: 1) There are multiple prescription lenses available on the market to negate this, I have the HONSVR ones and it definitely improved my experience. It will likely help your other discomfort comments in number 2, though this is something I haven't experienced (except maybe with Creed workouts!). Also there are plenty of head straps in development to help with keeping it in position, as I appreciate not everyone's head is the same shape. 3) I have to strongly disagree here, there are over 20 must-buy games on the system and hundreds in development, that's without knowing what will be announced later today. Are some of them Quest ports or upgraded versions of PSVR1 games? Yes, but they are the definitive versions of those titles. There are some more generic and bad ports but that's the same for any system. GT7, Red Matter 2, RE Village, Walkabout Golf, Pistol Whip, Horizon COTM, Walking Dead 1&2, Creed, Synth Riders, Pavlov, Star Wars TFTGE, Kayak, Moss 1&2, Before your Eyes, Song in the Smoke, Demeo, Light Brigade, Last Clockwinder etc etc and more are all incredible. If you haven't tried some of the above I urge you to have a go, and hope you look into the prescription lenses as think it will be the main point that will improve your issues.
@Amnesiac As well as not being available in retail outlets globally, it's also worth pointing out that it launched in February, not October like the PSVR1 did with the benefit of holiday sales. Additionally, the number of PS4's owned at the time of PSVR1 release were significantly higher than PS5's at the launch of PSVR2.
@thefourfoldroot1 was wondering why we haven’t seen. Red Matter 2 review yet myself, as it’s a milestone title as far as PSVR2 releases go so far. Push Square have been pretty good at covering the platforms releases too, and shouldn’t miss this one. Looking forward to Pixel Ripped too.
@belmont I know you’ve put a lot of effort in to that reply, but all I can say is that you are taking Mortal Kombat games far too seriously and investing in a bit more media content awareness wouldn’t be an adverse thing for you to understand why these characters are a good fit. However, somehow I don’t think mine and other replies are going to change your mind. Which is fine, it’s your opinion. I hope you still manage to enjoy the game for what it is. You know, stupid glorious gory fun.
@belmont @Totheteeth Appreciate you both may not of heard of them, but The Boys, Peacemaker & Invincible are all massively popular current hit shows. Peacemaker from the James Gunn Suicide Squad sequel has his own show also helmed by Gunn. So it's not like they are obscure or irrelevant. All are great shows and I would urge you to watch The Boys especially, it's fantastic. They are also hyper-violent shows, which completely fits in with the Mortal Kombat vibe and a pretty natural fit. I can see how purists may think that it's a bit of a sell-out and prefer a roster of just MK characters, but I don't think the game ever took itself that seriously did it? Also apologies for not using K on my c words.
@Ralizah There’s plenty of non gimmicky titles, but we also need theses ones which try something different which are trying to innovate. Do all of them succeed? No, but although VR is still niche it is also moving gaming forward in ways 2D isn’t. We need VR to succeed on all platforms if we want more innovation, and as a gamer I’m behind it 100%
Looks interesting and I like the visual style.
However, I'm not sure why only 90fps. Just started Red Matter 2 and the overall visual performance, smoothness and fidelity outmatch anything else on PSVR2 so far running at 120fps with no reprojection & 4k textures. Vertical Robot are absolute wizards I tell you and Sony needs to work very closely with this studio for the future & other Devs take note.
It's shocking what larger Teams have put out in comparison to this game.
The Devs have also stated that "...you haven’t seen anything yet of what PSVR2 will be capable of" which is really encouraging to hear.
I think there are a number of factors involved here, by all accounts the PC VR implementation for F122 was not great so do we really want a substandard PSVR2 version when we know what GT7 is capable of? There may have been time & budgeting constraints and just a lack of developer skill with the PSVR2 platform at this time. Though they could have said we are considering it and released it after launch at some point. We don't know for sure, but it's not like Sony wouldn't help in some capacity to get this out on their platform. They have the advantage over PC in only developing for a target spec too. It could be that the launch base of units sold is not enough for EA as @Tharsman suggested, though it's not like they are developing solely for VR, and surely any add-on sales for the current userbase would justify development costs even if only half of them bought it being a high profile release. I'm speculating, but there must be around 500,000 sold so far at least. especially with going to retail. For context, DIRT Rally VR DLC released 5 months after PSVR1 launch in Feb 2017 but Codies weren't owned by EA then of course and PSVR was almost at a million units sold by that point (notably being launched holiday season 2016 and available at retail). Anyway, if anyone's still reading (sorry I'm rambling) I hope they reconsider and invest time in adding it down the line.
I purchased the dlc via the PS App, then physically had to download it via my PS5 from the store yesterday.
It wouldn't download until I changed the install option to the storage on the same drive I had the main game on, which sort of makes sense, but might be the cause of the issues for some folk on here. The update patch just installed today.
DLC is around 17GB and I presume it's reusing a lot of assets from the main game too so doesn't need to be that big.
@trev666 We are supposed to be getting Aliens VR though as a PSVR title. Fingers crossed, anyway, Aliens is my favourite action film of all time. @Futureshark Watched a few of the episodes of 'The Movies That made us' on Netflix the other day, interesting watching for the production hell that both Aliens & Robocop went through!
I'm not a fan of multiplayer either but will still keep an eye on this and hope it does well for them as loved both Moss games.
Just said this on another site, but I was actually thinking an Uncharted/Tomb Raider/action game might work quite well in Moss-style VR. Though admittedly my brain is a bit weird.
Just started playing it and wow, everything looks and feels excellent. Really solid gameplay, crisp graphics, colours are great and the haptics on weapons are brilliant. Early days but loving it so far.
I've been fortunate to have played over 20 of the above so far & apart from the heavy hitters like GT7, RE8 & Horizon COTM I've really enjoyed Light Brigade and Song in The Smoke, but it took time before they both clicked. Definitely solid 8's though.
Before your Eyes was a nice change of pace from others as was Kayak VR. Love Pistol Whip!
Disappointed technically with Switchback & No Mans Sky, but there's still enjoyment to be had and hopefully, they can patch them both soon.
There's very few I'd rate below 6 from what I've tried so far, so can't complain!
Looking forward to Walking Dead 1&2
@TrickyDicky99 It must be great to be so optimistic about everything, maybe Sony should just call it a day with supporting such a niche and doomed product. What were they thinking without consulting you?
Well after playing through a few levels last night I must say I did enjoy the my time with the game overall. If I hadn't read this preview I would have been more disappointed.
Gunplay is excellent and how it makes use of the haptics, the shooting feel great. There are some nice touches on some of the routes I took which change the approach a bit (other than the blinking mechanic). And although I wasn't scared like with some horror games, I did jump a few times.
However, while it uses some features of the PSVR2/PS5 there's definitely room for improvement in the visuals/animations/textures (hands & guns do look pretty good though).
It also doesn't seem to take advantage of the SSD, as loading times are also poor and can't understand why compared to much larger scale games.
It's still early days for me, though but at the moment I'd liken it to an old theme park ride you used to love when you were a kid, which they added a few new twists to, but still doesn't quite compete with modern rides and is slightly underwhelming.
Hopefully, a few patches can address some of these issues as it's still fun but more time in the oven was needed really.
@h15c0r3r That does sound as though something is wrong there, for me GT7 is sharp on car interiors/text/menus, but admittedly less so exterior to the car. Still an incredible experience though.
@KaijuKaiser Mixed at the moment on Metacritic at 67% from 6 reviews unfortunately, so not the banger I was hoping for, though I'm sure I will still enjoy it.
Shocked to hear this after so many positive previews and hands on doing the rounds (appreciate these were more tailored experiences). Pre-ordered on the basis of loving Rush of Blood, so really hope it's not as bad as your initial impressions suggest and will reserve judgement.
@NEStalgia Fortunately I'm hoping my glasses will shield me a bit and when I cry it's not usually projectile-style bawling and it just trickles down my face. Except when I have to do housework when I just want to game! It's appealing to me anyways, and getting excellent reviews elsewhere too, so will let you know if my PSVR2 is in for repair after playing it with tear damage!
It's such a refined VR experience and gets you completely immersed in being a virtual gun-toting hip-swaying badass. It's also 'sick' according to my son, though I think it's more John Wicked. Sorry.
I love NMS but I certainly wouldn't say the visuals are vastly improved over the PSVR version past close objects or your hands. While I appreciate Hello games for the constant support and free updates, there are a lot of people who bought this specifically for PSVR2 hoping that it would deliver on some of the promised 'visual fidelity' upgrades, which I don't believe it hasn't delivered on. Needed a bit more time in the oven, and implementation of foveated rendering, appreciate this is easier said than done and it's still a brilliant game though.
@NEStalgia Well apart from the risk of getting the headset wet, I think it's exactly the sort of game that can suit VR, and it's good to see that there's something different like this out there in the PSVR2 library. The immersion of VR can only enhance a story experience if done right as it's easy to lose yourself in virtual worlds (GT7 & RE Village are beckoning to me now!) I do appreciate it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea though.
@thefourfoldroot1 I get that, and with so many titles to choose from folk will want to choose how to spend their money wisely. Then think I pay a similar amount for a visit to the cinema (plus the rest of the family!) and I'm not as immersed in it or can't interact like you can with a game. Plus there are not many other titles like this around so I'm sure will appeal to some. Going to give it a go later.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Ah, that's rough, hope you manage to get your VR legs if you've tried other guidance. The Moss games & Tetris are pretty good too as the screens are pretty static. Drums Rock did make my wrists ache tbh!
@Pat84 Well I appreciate it's different for everyone and hope you do get the opportunity to try it out. I'm sure you've seen the guidance for helping to reduce motion sickness, but I still have ginger (biscuits/tea/raw (yep raw!) before a session anyway. You can get the travel sickness wrist bands which are also supposed to help, but as you're probably aware it's best to take baby steps on the more intense games and turn on as many comfort settings as possible initially and gradually reduce them over time. Anyway hope you're okay with it, and get to appreciate the glory of GT7 in VR!
It's just an incredible experience. I struggled with the PSVR implementation and got quite motion sick with it. With GT7 on PSVR2 I've not had any issues whatsoever in the 10-15 hours I must have put in so far (could be more, easy to lose track!). In fact, I've not had any motion sickness with any of my PSVR2 titles including RE Village and Horizon. Very happy with the purchase!
The upgrade is £7.99 on the UK Store but since I got it as part of PS Plus in the first place I don't mind paying for the noticible enhancements the devs have made.
I’m not sure why “ Very fiddly reload requirements” is marked as a negative when this as you’ve already stated this can be bypassed in the options, rendering it irrelevant.
@DarkestHour Maybe you're just miserable and can't get behind the enthusiasm and enjoyment of others. When is a 7/10 limping out of the gate? GT7, RE Village, Song & the Smoke, Kayak VR, Demeo, Pistol Whip, The Moss games are all fantastic. You must limp through life yourself if you have such high standards and think you just get a kick out of crapping on other peoples parade. Pathetic.
@Dobbos There's loads of advice on reducing it, which appreciate you may have tried. Main one is though if the feeling starts to come on then step away and not try to push through it! Take sessions gradually and work up to longer sessions. Oh and eat ginger nuts beforehand, I call them VR biscuits! More tips here: https://trip.dokodemodoors.com/en/blog/vr-motion-sickness

Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSVR2 Games
Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSVR2 Games
@brazzios_84 What a valuable and constructive contribution you've made to society, well done you!
Re: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR (PSVR2) - Lousy Rails Shooter Is a Supermassive Shame
@TrickyDicky99 It must be great to be so optimistic about everything, maybe Sony should just call it a day with supporting such a niche and doomed product. What were they thinking without consulting you?
Re: Hands On: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Is Massively Underwhelming So Far
Re: Hands On: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Is Massively Underwhelming So Far
@h15c0r3r That does sound as though something is wrong there, for me GT7 is sharp on car interiors/text/menus, but admittedly less so exterior to the car. Still an incredible experience though.
Re: Hands On: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Is Massively Underwhelming So Far
@KaijuKaiser Mixed at the moment on Metacritic at 67% from 6 reviews unfortunately, so not the banger I was hoping for, though I'm sure I will still enjoy it.
Re: Hands On: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Is Massively Underwhelming So Far
Shocked to hear this after so many positive previews and hands on doing the rounds (appreciate these were more tailored experiences). Pre-ordered on the basis of loving Rush of Blood, so really hope it's not as bad as your initial impressions suggest and will reserve judgement.
Re: Before Your Eyes (PSVR2) - Eye Tracked Tearjerker Will Move You
@NEStalgia Fortunately I'm hoping my glasses will shield me a bit and when I cry it's not usually projectile-style bawling and it just trickles down my face. Except when I have to do housework when I just want to game!
It's appealing to me anyways, and getting excellent reviews elsewhere too, so will let you know if my PSVR2 is in for repair after playing it with tear damage!
Re: Mini Review: Pistol Whip (PSVR2) - Still One of the Best VR Games You Can Play
It's such a refined VR experience and gets you completely immersed in being a virtual gun-toting hip-swaying badass.
It's also 'sick' according to my son, though I think it's more John Wicked. Sorry.
Re: Mini Review: No Man's Sky (PSVR2) - Explore an Infinite Universe on a Whole New Scale
Re: Before Your Eyes (PSVR2) - Eye Tracked Tearjerker Will Move You
@NEStalgia Well apart from the risk of getting the headset wet, I think it's exactly the sort of game that can suit VR, and it's good to see that there's something different like this out there in the PSVR2 library.
The immersion of VR can only enhance a story experience if done right as it's easy to lose yourself in virtual worlds (GT7 & RE Village are beckoning to me now!)
I do appreciate it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea though.
Re: Before Your Eyes (PSVR2) - Eye Tracked Tearjerker Will Move You
@thefourfoldroot1 I get that, and with so many titles to choose from folk will want to choose how to spend their money wisely. Then think I pay a similar amount for a visit to the cinema (plus the rest of the family!) and I'm not as immersed in it or can't interact like you can with a game. Plus there are not many other titles like this around so I'm sure will appeal to some. Going to give it a go later.
Re: Creativity Is Tchia's Greatest Weapon in Evasive Combat Display
Well, I reckon this is the game that might pry me away from PSVR2 for a bit (waiting on RE4 remakes VR mode before playing). Looks gorgeous.
Re: Gran Turismo Comparison Video Shows Huge Leap in Quality from PSVR to PSVR2
@Kidfunkadelic83
Ah, that's rough, hope you manage to get your VR legs if you've tried other guidance. The Moss games & Tetris are pretty good too as the screens are pretty static. Drums Rock did make my wrists ache tbh!
Re: Gran Turismo Comparison Video Shows Huge Leap in Quality from PSVR to PSVR2
Re: Gran Turismo Comparison Video Shows Huge Leap in Quality from PSVR to PSVR2
It's just an incredible experience. I struggled with the PSVR implementation and got quite motion sick with it. With GT7 on PSVR2 I've not had any issues whatsoever in the 10-15 hours I must have put in so far (could be more, easy to lose track!). In fact, I've not had any motion sickness with any of my PSVR2 titles including RE Village and Horizon. Very happy with the purchase!
Re: Mini Review: Rez Infinite (PSVR2) - PSVR Classic Remains a Must-Play on PSVR2
@AFCC Have to agree with you, the eye tracking completely enhanced the experience even further for me once I got my head round it.
Re: PS Plus Owners Will Have to Pay to Upgrade The Walking Dead for PSVR2
The upgrade is £7.99 on the UK Store but since I got it as part of PS Plus in the first place I don't mind paying for the noticible enhancements the devs have made.
Re: All PSVR2 Games Reviews
Startenders the same score as Horizon COTM?
Re: Resident Evil Village (PSVR2) - An Even More Intense Version of a PS5 Great
I’m not sure why “ Very fiddly reload requirements” is marked as a negative when this as you’ve already stated this can be bypassed in the options, rendering it irrelevant.
Re: Song in the Smoke: Rekindled (PSVR2) - VR's Best Survival Sim Is Even Better with PSVR2
Pathetic.
Re: Bumper Gran Turismo 7 PSVR2 Patch Adds Even More Content
What an update! Cannot wait to play this in VR with a wheel but might have to if Sony doesn't ship for the release date!
Re: Gran Turismo 7's Glitzy Free PSVR2 Upgrade Adds VR Showroom Mode
@Dobbos There's loads of advice on reducing it, which appreciate you may have tried. Main one is though if the feeling starts to come on then step away and not try to push through it! Take sessions gradually and work up to longer sessions.
Oh and eat ginger nuts beforehand, I call them VR biscuits!
