I do still remember how rough Control was even on PS4 Pro, but admittedly they were dealing with six years old base hardware (which wasn’t that amazing to begin with) at that point, so I’m hoping this time will be different. As long the performance mode is at least 1440p with a steady 60FPS, I’m happy, though I’m def also going to try Fidelity, since the game seems like a looker.
Shame about no 40FPS choice, for now at least. Spider-Man 2 has really spoiled me on it.
Didn’t love how the first AW played, but thought Control felt great, so I’m hoping they’ve learned some lessons there. It does look amazing visually, hopefully they’ve gone and added both performance and resolution modes like with Control.
Was disappointed that the performance mode was only 1080p on PS5. Maybe it didn't help that I tried the pc-demo just before the console trial, but the latter just looked bit too muddy for me, so went with the pc-version instead. Game itself is great though and does play well on a controller, so still using Dualsense even on pc.
GTA Definitive Trilogy still sold over 10 million copies despite being ridiculed by the whole internet and even with Rockstar issuing an apology about it, so can't say I would be at all surprised if this one ended up selling well too.
Already played the prettied up version on One X years ago , so zero interest for a port that doesn't even run at 60fps. Maybe if it also came out on PC, just to see what people would do with that version.
Worth the 1€ I paid for Game Pass at least! It had some good things going for it, but Inside just lifted the bar so high for me with these type of games that I always compare every new entry to it on some level. Somerville also had some rough technical hiccups at launch.
They already mentioned Fall in the official PS Blog last year, so this isn’t a huge surprise. Wonder if there’s a dedicated State of Play in August.
I’m kinda tempted to just skip all the preview coverage content for Spider-Man 2 and just jump in blind when the game comes out. Loved the first game and everything else Insomniac has put out since, so I trust on them to deliver with this one as well.
Very timely, as I just played through Ico for the first time earlier this month. Twenty years later, it didn't blow me away anymore and the combat's definitely a little so-so, but it was still a refreshing experience to play among other massive games of today, as mentioned, and I wish Sony (or any big studio, really) would put out games like this still.
That save screen music though. Hearing that was actually what prompted me to finally play the game and it's a real stellar piece of music.
Color me surprised, I guess. Just yesterday I commented, that surely Rocksteady could make this look more appealing than Gotham Knights, but here we are. Just very underwhelming looking.
I guess at this point I can only be surprised positively when the game actually comes out, but it’s not looking promising at the moment. I guess the only way I could be more disappointed would be, if AK didn’t already come out eight years ago. In that time, I have stopped counting days until Rocksteady’s new game, as much as I liked the Arkham trilogy.
Not a problem until it is, though if this also means that the game will eventually just become unplayable in any way if they pull the plug, that’s garbage.
This would be a bigger issue if the game as a whole didn’t look as underwhelming as it does.
I sure did like those Arkham games, so I haven’t given up hope on Suicide Squad completely. Surely Rocksteady can do better than Gotham Knights, yeah? Maybe? Probably? Please?
It really does look like Returnal, which isn’t automatically a bad thing, because Returnal is excellent. Eager to see some reviews by the end of the month.
@RawnDawn I’d like to think that people are actually eager to tackle another sci-fi survival horror game if it reviews well, after Callisto disappointed them. Time will tell.
I’m positively surprised that they offer a performance mode, which is also 1440p instead of 1080p. Very likely choosing performance myself.
The demo was kind of a mess and definitely didn’t make me more excited, but it didn’t make me hate the game either. Maybe the actual story will have something going for it. Still not something I’ll consider at launch because of Dead Space Remake coming out, unless there’ll be a bunch of raving reviews.
Interested to see the reception to this, since their fanbase is a LOT bigger now than it was back in 2012 when V came out and very likely eager to play anything new they put out.
Shame about him losing the role, but not a bother for me personally, since I can't remember what he sounded like even after replaying the game earlier this year.
Fuzzy 1080p has become noticeable to me with some games (Forbidden West had a pretty stark contrast between resolution and performance modes before the big patch), but it's not going to stop me from playing something that's good.
Definitely waiting for reviews with this one, to hopefully see whatever it's an enjoyable b-game or not.
Personal boycotting aside, I'm a bit surprised that it's still coming to Game Pass. Admittedly I haven't followed how Sony & Microsoft are handling business in Russia, but at one point at least Sony pulled Gran Turismo 7 from sale on the PSN Store there.
Should’ve been $40 at release instead of $60, if anything. Probably wouldn’t mean there would be thousands of more buyers, but I’m sure it would be at least a bit more appealing.
Sad to see that some people here have the same ”SONY BETRAYED US!” mentality. Blessing us with a few ”Ragnarök is gonna FLOP, because it comes to pc in 2024!” comments in the near future too, I’m sure.
I probably would’ve bought this if I was new to the series, but I would also be disappointed by the trilogy not being playable on the same platform too.
Amazed that they bothered answering to someone who admitted to bugging them about the game. I’m looking forwards to it too, but it’s really not that hard to just wait patiently.
Wondering if this game is gonna get a slight boost next year, when it comes to Game Pass. Now it just feels like it came and went and (to my brain) already seems like a game that came out well over an year ago, not seven months.
Edgerunners and Witcher boosted up the sales of both games by a lot, so why not add a new coat of paint on HZD if the series does the same? That would be my reasoning, if Edgerunners wasn’t a recent thing, since I assume this had been in the works for a bit.
The original game could use the significantly better looking character animations from FW, but otherwise even the base PS4 version still looks great. A $10 upgrade I could see being fine (not that I want to play the original anymore), but a $70 release in the vein of TLOU Part 1 would be a tough sell.
Looks great, november really can’t come soon enough. Yeah, the PS4 roots of the previous game are there, but that’s hardly an issue (personally anyway), when the last game was/still is great. I’ll still take more of that with a handful of new tricks and locales, as well as a story.
Played the demo earlier this year and it’s definitely the most ”Metroid” kind of metroidvania I’ve seen since the real thing, least in terms of visuals.
I also backed this game eons ago, so I’m getting a copy in any case.
You put Clayface in a trailer, you get thumbs up from me. That said, he would’ve been a nice surprise in the game itself, but at least this raised my interest.
Earlier release also means more time before Ragnarok, so maybe I will actually play this at release.
Amazingly, this was maybe even more annyoing to me than all the people crying about GTA going "woke". Yeah, good job, you could pick a female character in the first game, where it made zero difference, like mentioned above.
@Mauzuri Like the article says, players made numerous choices throughout three games, which then didn’t really have anything to do with the three endings presented. It’s not that surprising to imagine how that would’ve bothered people.
Obviously it would’ve been crazy to have like twenty endings depending on all your choices, but they probably could’ve tried at least something different.
For them to say ”Stay tuned for our first-party State of Play happening in July!” by the end of it.
Since they’ve already tempered my expectations, I’m not getting excited in advance. Stray’s release date was already pulled up from a database, but it would be nice to get a confirmation for it.
I've always been perfectly happy with a (steady) 30FPS, but ever since I got a PS5, I have admittedly played everything with the performance setting on. I'm sure I'll try the Resolution one for this too, but unless my eyes can see a drastic difference in the fidelity, it's gonna be 60FPS the whole way.
Hot damn, I had almost given up hope on this, but only almost, because a) I’m one of the fans of the original and b) they put out a new Warhammer game out like every month, so I guess this was inevitable.
The first Spesh Marine wasn’t exactly the peak of originality and had relatively simple gameplay loop, but it really nailed enough things (Orks that sounded very british, good/meaty weapon sounds and your character having a weight to him) for me to really enjoy my time with.
I hope that a sequel ten years later shakes things up more than with just a shinier coat of paint and new enemies, but I’d probably be lying if I said that a new SM game that feels very similar to the first game but on a much grander scale wouldn’t already appeal to me greatly.
I definitely wasn't expecting something on a level of GTA 5, but this does look like the bare minimum, just about, and the asking price of 60€ seems preposterous. I guess it might look significantly better graphics wise at least, if the comparison you have are memories of the blurry PS2 versions.
Funny how Xbox Series S/X have sold over 6 million units, despite there not really being a single new game released on them that you couldn’t also play on PC. But yeah, a formerly exclusive game that’s soon four years old being released on PC is definitely the first sign of PS4/PS5 becoming obsolete.
Even if Ragnarok would come out on the same day on PS4/PS5 and PC, I don’t think millions of people would go ”Well gee, I better spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade my PC/buy a completely new one to play it there!” instead of just buying a console or the game for a console they already have. Even limited exclusivity isn’t going to suddenly make majority of the playerbase patiently wait for a very anticipated game to come out on PC instead.
I would honestly be glad if I there was a singular platform that I could play everything on, but until then, I continue to play on multiple platforms and have fun doing so.
ANYWAY…as for GoW, this is neat! Game already plays perfectly on PS5 for me, so I don’t have a reason to get it on PC, except maybe way later when it’s on sale and people have put out bonkers mods for it.
Trailer including both cinematics and gameplay like with the reveal trailer for God of War would be nice for the sequel.
Deathloop is probably going to get a launch trailer and people will groan about it.
Release date for Little Devil Inside!
New Silent Hill? I was never the biggest SH fan, but I’ll play an exclusive horror game with a big budget.
Otherwise? I don’t know, surprise me. After having played Psychonauts 2, it would be really fun to see something imaginative like that from a bigger Sony studio. Or just cartoony like Sly or Jak & Daxter. I’m not holding my breath, but one can hope.
Oh, and a starting time that isn’t midnight over here on a weekday.
Because it’s a game by Arkane, most people are probably not going to buy it anyway, whatever it’s shown during one or ten State of Play shows, because their games never seem to catch the mainstream interest, despite glowing reviews.
Something like Dark Alliance was a no-brainer to try on GP first, since it came out at same time as on PS5 and PC. Deathloop I’ve been looking forwards to for years (or over a year? What is time anymore?), so spending 70€ now in september to play a game I want to play at launch, instead of waiting for a whole year to play it on another platform isn’t a deciding factor for me.
While a sequel that might not ever happen (read the first part) would be nice to play on the same platform, I can play it elsewhere too.
Great opportunity for them to drag THPS through the mud again by letting some other developer do a half-assed job with a new game. I mean, I'd love to be positively surprised, but we'll see...
@PhhhCough PC? Not impossible, but still wouldn’t happen at least for a couple of years. PS4 isn’t powerful enough to run it (the SSD making the ’instant’ dimensional hops possible probably being the biggest reason), so that’s never happening.
