While VR isn't done and dusted as a whole, you really can't argue against Sony's own lackluster support for it. Call of the Mountain was like the ONE specifically made for PSVR2 game from a first party studio and that was it. Incredible how they fumbled that part and didn't even have games like Rescue Mission updated for the device.
Anyway, I got myself one from a sale couple of years ago and had a decent time with it, whenever I bothered to set it up. It was a smoother process than with PSVR 1, but still enough of a hassle to not be a daily thing.
My best experience on it was easily Half-Life: Alyx, which isn't even a PSVR2 game and that I couldn't have played without also owning PC and the dongle they released. Even then though, for me it wasn't a game that made FPS games on a flat screen feel underwhelming, like I've heard some people say.
The combat was definitely the weakest part of this, when I played it last year. It wasn't frustratingly bad, but the enemy variety was very lacking and outside of the bosses (which were better), you were always fighting in a boring, small arena.
Great game otherwise though! I'm sure some think the story's too preachy, but it worked for me.
If I allow nostalgia to be a factor, it’d have to be the original Resident Evil 2. Spent at least a couple of weekends over at my friend’s place playing it together. Easily one of my favorite gaming memories.
Wish I'd liked this, but found it to be completely average when I played it originally. But I know some folks who did enjoy it a lot and I'm sure there's at least a few of those folks on PS5 as well.
To me the best thing to come out of this was watching Conan blow up that one grandma's spaceship.
@themightyant They said this back when they announced the game, which I'm sure was stated directly because of how punishing Returnal could be.
"A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable. After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to “come back stronger” to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa."
I’m going into this as blind as possible, so I’m not watching the video, but the narrative was a big part of why I enjoyed Returnal, as good as the gameplay was. The story part after the Hyperion boss was stellar the first time I experienced it.
Thus I’m similarily hoping that Saros also delivers on both fronts.
I won’t lose sleep over them being removed if that happens (they were always optional anyway), but also they’re not graphic in the slightest, so in that sense they shouldn’t really be an issue to anyone.
Unless a report comes out that there was suppose to be a really cool single-player Marathon game that got scrapped in favor of extraction shooter, I don’t really have a reason to dislike the game. I wish I liked the genre though, because I don’t really have a reason to get excited either.
But maybe I’ll try the server slam and become a devoted Marathon fan, who knows?
Unless PS6 is going to revolutionize the way we play games or do something else beyond just prettier graphics that PS5 simply cannot do, I’m really not in any kind of rush to move forward. This from someone who bought both PS4/Pro and PS5 at launch.
I’d rather have the AAA industry look at what smaller games are doing if they want to avoid ”stagnation” and I don’t think you need better ray-tracing to do that.
Glad I have PC as an option, because like others have said, the demo performance was pretty rough. Turning off v-sync helps a little, but then there's awful screen tearing. Hope they manage to improve it.
One of my favorite games of last year! Made me hopeful about Outer Worlds 2, but it failed to grab me much like the first one. Avowed I could even see myself replaying some day though.
If I had skipped PS4 and only jumped in now, it’d be amazing to get to play a lot of the Sony library enhanced on PS5 for the first time.
As it is now, it’s a great console (that sure just feels like the console I bought in 2013, only more powerful) with an uneven game library. I wish there’d been more new IPs and less gritty first party games, even if I have enjoyed them.
Too many other games right now, but I'll get this eventually. The demo left a good impression on me.
Been a while since I've last seen arguments about scores. It's dumb to begin with, but it's extra dumb when the games being compared were reviewed by two different people.
Chose to actually not watch any trailers for this since the first one and it's really not that difficult, I can assure you, just in case you feel like there's too many.
@Frmknst Exactly my feelings. Sword looks pretty, I can say that much, but Journey already looked amazing 12 years ago. Didn't have even close to the emotional impact that Journey did all those years ago.
Then I played Herdling the following day and it made me forget about the disappointment that Sword was.
Space Marine 2 definitely suffered for me as being built more around co-op, so at a first glance, I don't love this. Then again, my general enthusiasm for Darksiders has faded by a lot at this point, so I don't really have any huge expectations to begin with.
@TheFakulty Same here. If I had played this on PS3, maybe it'd be refreshing to see it look a lot more crisp and run at 60FPS, but the trailer seemed basically identital to how I remember it looking like on PC back then.
While I really enjoyed this back in 2011, I feel like it could be a bit too monotone now, when even SM2 felt like that at times.
Some people really think the disc not including a majority of the game is a major reason for it not performing well? I’m sure it might play a part in it and it’s definitely not ideal, but there’s already so many games that basically need a big day one patch to be downloaded, that a ”pure” pysical release feels like an incredible rarity.
Also popular or not, I really hate this current obsession over player numbers.
Oof. The demo wasn't great, but I figured maybe the final product wouldn't be that rough. Shame, but least I didn't have my hopes high up.
Good news though! if you want a game that kinda seems like its from over a decade ago, but still feels (mostly) fun to play, Evil West might be the game for you, at least when it's discounted.
Some interesting stuff, for sure. I’m not sure I’d pay the full price for Captain Blood after trying the demo on PC, but it’s still fun to see an actual relic like that getting released after all these years.
Metal Eden’s demo was promising, could’ve felt more punchy. Curious to see the reviews.
Never played the original Savage Planet, though it seemed neat. The live-action trailer for Revenge was awful and kinda put me off from it, hopefully the actual game is good.
Midnight Walk looks terrific and might actually get me to dust off my PSVR2, if the gameplay matches the visuals.
There was a very fleeing moment in last month of me looking at a Pro, when it was ”only” 749€ with a special discount, though the external drive would’ve hiked it back up to 849€ and currently up to 949€.
But also this year I’ve used my PS5 to replay TLOU Part 2 and Lost Records, with the next game probably being Ghost of Yōtei all the way in October. I’ve spent money on many dumb things in my life, but almost a grand on a console I’m likely going to play very little this year seems real dumb. If Ghost only runs at 30FPS on base model, then I guess I’ll settle for that.
Returnal was the first thing I fired up on OLED and it instantly convinced me that I’ve made a good investment, both by feeling great and looking amazing on the new tv.
My country didn’t get the memo about this, so the price is still over 120€ like it has been, so might as well buy the normal PS5 (which is now 599€ here) if you think about buying even one physical game.
Had no expectations or even real interest towards Remake, before I decided to try the demo they put out. One of my favorite games that year and even the oddities in the story didn’t bother me much back then, because I was unfamiliar with the original story (except for THAT part). Even replayed it before Rebirth came out, which is something I very rarely do.
I’m not sure I have much positive to say about Rebirth. Even the great combat started becoming tedious far before reaching the end. I’d like to stay positive for the third game, but they probably double down on the open world bloat…
Not that I don't like bunch of modern Playstation IPs, but the zany energy of this doesn't exactly translate into their current game offering, besides like Astro Bot.
Was hoping to see a release date. I played the demo on PC and it definitely helped to put the game on my wishlist. Few people have already mentoned Jusant and while I liked that game as well, I already died several times in the demo, so it is more demanding (you can adjust certain things), but also very cool.
Tried the first game couple of times, but it didn’t click with me, at least enough to play through the whole game, so I can’t imagine this’d be any different. Might watch a playthrough though, because it sure looks pretty.
PvP missing isn’t a big deal for me, but the lack of co-op would be very disappointing. Can’t imagine churning through three of these games by myself these days.
Mine has been boxed up for a good while. There are some games I’d like to go back to (Ratchet Clank Future Trilogy, Infamous 1-2…), but not so badly anymore that I’d want to setup the console. Dualshock 3 also feels kinda terrible to use after having become so used to DS4 and Dualsense.
Got mine in 2006 after getting paid from a summer job with more money than I’d ever had before, so of course I had to spend it on something fancy to enjoy during the vacation. I can’t remember the price anymore, but surely it was discounted by that point.
I only really ended up playing through God of War (which I picked up with the console) and God of War 2. Those alone did make it worth the price, but obviously there were a lot more games that should’ve clicked with me. I think it was just a mix of also playing on pc at the time and other things coming in the way that shortened my time with PS2, until PS3 brought me back to console gaming.
I only watched the show last year and while it was decent (the movie was the highlight), it couldn’t overall match TAS.
Above said, a well-playing action game in future Gotham could be neat. Maybe we’ll find out in 2027-2028…or 2039 to really stay faithful to Neo-Gotham!
I’d say weeks, but even then I don’t do everything. It was when I played through RDR2 that I decided I would focus on the story in big games if it seemed like I was going to burn out on the game and I’ve kinda stuck to that playstyle. They’re not RPGs (nor was RDR2, really), but the Spider-Man games have been the only open world games in recent years where I’ve done basically all of the side stuff.
Sometimes I wonder if playing WoW ruined my ”gaming brain”, because that sure is an RPG I put a LOT of time into even as it became a chore.
I never had a PS1, but my friend got one back in 1996 as a birthday present (I think). Had to go through the first weekend without a memory card, should’ve included one of those in a box!
We played through a bunch of games (sometimes bought, often rented), but late evenings with Resident Evil 2&3 were the absolute highlights.
Sucks, but I also use Stars so rarely that it’s not a big deal (plus it’s free). Accidentally discovering that I had collected enough points over the years to earn 20€ just as Alan Wake 2 released was a happy accident that I didn’t expect to happen again anyway.
I first (and last) played this in 1996 and it's one of the first adventure games I ever played and also enjoyed a lot, so it's definitely time for another playthrough, even if maybe not right at launch because of how stacked September is.
@bestuardo The dev team got acquired by Embracer and the IP was left to Bandai Namco, who are still putting out Little Nightmares 3, just by a different studio (Supermassive Games). I already knew that and was still briefly confused when this was shown last night, before the title was revealed.
I’m guessing they just really wanted to make a new game in similar style (or, this being pure speculation, they were in the middle of developing LN3 before being bought and had to redress it).
There’s still not too many of these kind of games out there, so I’ll happily play another, if it’s any good.
Wasn't expecting high art, but that still looked a bit too janky, so I think I'll rather keep waiting for those few other indie dino games.
You'd think that more devs remembered how cool dinosaurs are so that we'd have more games. Hopefully Jurassic Park: Survival manages to surprise, while we also wait for Capcom to finally give in and remake Dino Crisis.
Kinda surprised this isn't a JRPG with a title like that. At least then it'd be "par for the course", now it just makes this even easier for people to probably not even glance at.
