The same thing happened to the KOTOR-remake. They got new publishers but it didn't exactly bring the cow to market.
They could maybe just ask for less. 44 additional million dollars is a princely sum.
On one hand, I don't want studios to die out and people lose their jobs, but on the other hand it would seem that developers are asking for exorbitant pay checks making development of games balloon in time and budget.
Personally, I certainly don't need more Yakuza games. At one point, it felt like a new one came out each week!
I am playing Spider-Man 2 I arrived at the Amusement Park trying rides waiting for it to go bad somehow.
Playing some Lake House dlc for Alan Wake 2.
Also, on PC, I will play the amazing demo of Heroes of Might and Magic. It is back, baby! My first match is in a very large map playing as Temple.
Keeping BG:3 and KCD2 as my premier backlog. I do that to games I really love to try and savour these games. My dark secret is that one of my absolute favorite games of all time, Metal Gear Solid ended with me NOT finishing the fight against Metal Gear Rex due to my young self feeling such a level of awe and revelation. (I know it boggles the mind😂)
You are making up the demand of the nextbox - no data suggests gamers are clamoring for it.
Sony's PlayStation won the console war and made M$ a publishing vassal owing its allegiance and fealty to PlayStation.
Playstation's true enemy is Nintendo now. As such, their new hardware and handheld should come to market at an opportune moment for this war to be fought and won.
Nintendo games are very simple cookie cutter stuff, and the Nintendo gamers are made to enjoy that form of simplicity, but I think PlayStation can compete, but it'll take better hardware and better games too.
I do agree that the next consoles are like smartphones. The improvements are incremental, and people will keep buying their brand at their convenience.
As a consumer, I feel the current prices on games make me disinterested in pulling the trigger on purchasing many games, even when substantially discounted. Suspicion on pricing will only make me even more entrenched in my consuming ways.
I've slept on physical media this entire generation, because the price of entry for a digital-only console was slightly lower. There's hardly any places left in my country where you can buy physical media, let alone trade in.
Yeah, it's a little funny. They have screens, headsets, controllers and speakers. You could have your Playstation/PC setup and almost exclusively use Sony products. If they made online play much cheaper, they could out-PC PCs.
There's still a handful playstation titles available on PC storefronts to entice or inform PC gamers on the kind of experiences coming out of first party studios, but I thought the push were going to be more aggressive. It must be the piracy and the fact that pulling users to Playstation is worth more than selling a relatively large number of games on PC.
Horrible marketing for the game - his credibility plummets when he angrily asks to left alone. Who "cooks" a game in the last two weeks? I lost interest in the game when I found out it wasn't an RPG. If the game gets rave reviews - all of this hardly matters though.
The last developer who said that got his game cancelled and his studio is de facto shut down, namely Bend Studios. He also badmouthed the original creators whom are the sole reason he has any job to begin with. He is/was community manager at Bend or something.
If you can't level up they're right to try and persuade news outlets to stop calling it an RPG. Too many will be expecting rich skill trees and so on. The damage has been done, but I like that the PR team isn't covering it up.
Faye wasn't that compelling in the dream-like sequences, although they created some air of mystery shrouding her. For context, I just didn't enjoy the dream sequences.
The environmental storytelling concerning one area of the game where Kratos find out (spoiler) more about her are better at teasing/describing her appeal and why it May be a Devil Cry-game
Because there's so many xbox and PC-guys commenting in Playstation communities, I started paying attention to the console wars and there wasn't many games where Series X had better graphics than Playstation.
'Burnt Peanut' is the world's most watched streamer? Jesus. Reminds me of my younger days playing Destiny with 'Handicap Toilet'.
I wonder how old the median stream-watcher is and how much money they spend on games... I would probably be shocked, because I am guessing the average streamee is 11, their budget also 11 and the average streamer 22. 😂
Thank you for this piece of context - I was convinced it had to be FromSoft blocking it, but didn't remember or read reports that stated the exact opposite.
This is so obvious. Like, I knew this years before this article confirmed it. Yet, I've never seen Bloodborne fans call out FromSoft for this. They've called out Sony and said they're waiting for this or that.
I really dislike Soulslikes, so I don't care either way. But I am fascinated to see where the saga about it goes from here.
There's room for so much improvement. Nothing has been optimal about the support of PSVR 2.
Every stone of criticism has been turned before, but at the end of the day a million people have happily enjoyed this alternative to flat screen gaming and you can make a good top 10 or even 20 of available games for the system. If you want this kind of experience, it is a good enough platform even if it isn't added to.
Whoever the f.. Peanut is, he isn't commanding a legion of people who pay for games to play. They're literally watching him play instead of playing themselves.
If the game is going to be a success then it'll be the players who like it. Streamers can go stream themselves.
I am experiencing JOOI which is the opposite of FOMO. The Joy of Opting-In. I don't expect to actually notice any difference right away, but am interested in what they say.
Hah! I do believe you have a very large library (of physical) media. No need to illustrate the point any further👍And of course, I have, in the past, downloaded movies, music and series. Not clean in the slightest - but that isn't a requirement to cry bloody murder.
Still, at the end of the day my point is that people should support studios' games if they can, sooner rather than later these days.
As to your impressive collection of mostly older gens? I've gone digital some while ago, long enough to have gotten rid of any rag-tag physical media. Oh... I actually do have Until Dawn and Fallout 4 on PS4 discs as the entirety of my physical collection. Call it even?🤪
I can't and won't get in to a flat screen golf experience.
I was pretty bummed out by Undisputed, but got some hours out of the title anyways. It was lacking in several departments but the real blow to morale came in my first online match. Apparently the opponent can just backtrack and have parades up and be impenetrable whereas I was knocked out by an uppercut that was half a meter from connecting. Hilarious slow-mo clip, but infuriating and moments after that match I uninstalled and won't be coming back.
Like I said: Ample anecdotal evidence and factual sales numbers tell me clearly that the market for pirated games on PC is too irresistible for the majority of the player base. One of the main reasons people give for adopting a more expensive PC is that you get the games 'for free'.
So, it isn't hate speech to address the rampant pirating on PC. But it IS presumptuous to judge you specifically - which rhetorically isn't the point I am trying to get across. However, you did boast about your lack of paying for games+consoles if you recall.
Also, if I was looking for pirated materials I wouldn't check your official store fronts. I'd be looking on your C:/.
And how many games have you stolen for your fully fledged PC?
I talked to an affluent PC gamer this weekend. Like everyone else on that platform, he was proud to say how many games he stole.
It starts with the truth and ends with a lie: "If the game is good, I'll buy it". Only think is the sales numbers don't lie. You steal and leave it at that.
I will definitely jump into Marathon for the server slam!
I hope I like their focus on multiplayer, seeing as I am most of the time a single player. If so, I'll buy it and support the devs that way.
People are hypocritically gunning for other devs on this, and quite frankly: We will all remember your hypocritical betrayal. I'll hold the idiots accountable. Just as bombings and threats ought to be handled.
I just thought they made an elegant announcement, but at the end of the day I don't trust them further than I can throw them. Their track record speaks for itself.
Hermen Hulst was also promoted (and demoted) organically, but that bumbling fool has been a catastrophe.
Ryan McCaffrey has a good article on it, whilst we let the story develop on site.
I think this shake up has been communicated very elegantly. It comes off as an amicable, co-opted piece and it is an organic line of succession within the company and their pledge is everything a gamer would like to hear. They speak plainly about what they want to avoid and it reflects well on them and are in alignment with the departing execs' pledges.
This is just further evidence of the absolute ineptitude of Hermen Hulst.
I am disgusted to see him allow this own goal marketing. I am not surprised that he didn't stop to think about congesting the flow of information to at least try and alleviate the bombardment of the other activities on their channels.
Jim Ryan and therefore Her men Hilst 'believed in' organic growth leading in to this generation, but inexplicably chose to try and brute-force inorganic creation of monetizable live service games.
The inexplicable part is a little 'plicable' when game journalists remind us where the most growth and the largest part of their revenue is found - in online services in general.
The fact is that not every PlayStation out there buys new games, and the lack of game sales is further exacerbated by SONY putting their marquis titles on PS Plus services which in my opinion is way to generous - I should have bought GOW: Ragnarok and I might still yet, but it seems as if games has to be an early success in order to sustain the devs' job security.
In the end, it is a management problem and I agree with the opinion piece, but this reminds me to put my money where my mouth is.
I think Hermen Hulst has cemented his legacy as an idiotic and incompetent manager of Sony 1st party studios.
He has NO successes, only failures. Yes, some developers has done well despite of this snake, but far to many has gone the way of the dodo or has been floundering this generation.
Just reading the first line: "His Town hall Meeting" every idiot exec are doing 'Town Halls' these days.
That statement is lies and excuses, the real issue is that he is an exceptionally incompetent idiot who could be entrusted with driving even a well-oiled business into the ground.
Incredibly frustrating for everyone except the idiots who cooked this up in a coke delirium. We should start prosecuting management that are as bad as this - it ought to be illegal to act that stupidly.
When Hermen and Jim announced that studios were being forced to do ***** live service, they blew up what little succes others had made for them and led us down the path of stupidity. Some said that the live service push wouldn't impact the studios, but they underestimated how stupidly Hermen enforced their decision.
Hermen is the man who said Concord was the future of PlayStation - he is behind Firewall Studios and helped a complete fraud make Haven Studios. They also sabotaged almost every studio they have - Bluepoint, Bend, Naughty Dog and Bungie and others have been extremely mismanaged.
One can understand the idea of wanting to cultivate a few games for live services but it happened inorganically, and they stupidly forced it unto too many studios at once.
Shame on everyone who had the power or position to fight back against stupidity but didn't.
God of War: Ragnarok... a game I first played last year on the Portal.
This year, I've played it exclusively on PS5 Pro on a good TV....
I have to bow down and say this is one of the greatest games ever made and a sensational achievement for Sony. It is so well made and pretty it beggars belief. I am stunned every time I sit down to play - the story holds up well on the second playthrough.
10/10
I am looking forward to see what the studio has in store for us next!
It seems logical to me since I'mve argued for stretching the longevity of the PS5-era purely from my own opinions and habits.
I can do without a period where I am on a 'last-gen'-machine, which I would be if the new hardware launches sooner rather than later.
Further more, being such a CEO myself, I can't help but think that Sony will capitalize on the lack of pressure to come to market with a brand new machine. They can sell way more PS5/PS5 Pro hardware. They aren't splitting up the user base so everyone can safely invest into the software they want to play. I have to assume that launching a console is an expensive endeavour and coupled with the fact that development time and cost has ballooned it might be a boon for Sony. No longer will a high tide raise all boats, you need a stabile current to coast on.
Also, I totally get why you want it from your point of view it. You even wrote it yourself, you want it due to professional wants and desires, but what are you expecting as a consumer yourself?
As for inspiration for what to write about: What problems do PS5 have that ought to be fixed in the next iteration? That question alone can generate a lot of articles. For example, we need to put pressure on Sony to deliver controllers with less propensity for stick drifting which has been the bane of my PS5-existence.
I think Concord failed in such a big way that people, especially those who tried it, were shocked.
I also think that hating on games is a pervasive trend that can drive away any chance of succes on its own.
With those two factors being my premise, this opinion piece is an example of benevolent journalism that could be effective in motivating people whose cognition are affected by unfair negativity to support the game.
I will definitely give it a chance and if I like it, I will probably try to recruit my friends.... Maybe I should try and make 'em sign up for the test as well....
What I want are for game developers to invent ways of designing games that gets rid of elevator rides or area cutoffs. To create systems, worlds and interactions that are too complex for any old harddisk to facilitate.
I want it to come together in either highly curated experiences or in highly emergent environments.

@Midnyte-Monkey
After what fact?
Aren't devs allowed to change a game based on feedback?

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's Multiplatform Approach Won't Affect Graphics, and Here's Why
What I want are for game developers to invent ways of designing games that gets rid of elevator rides or area cutoffs. To create systems, worlds and interactions that are too complex for any old harddisk to facilitate.
I want it to come together in either highly curated experiences or in highly emergent environments.
