Re: You Can Spend Over $60 on Evolve's Day One DLC

ComicBookGuy

To be fair, and I never thought I'd defend DLC, considering it's all cosmetic, it's not actually intended to be purchased together. Usually people will pick and choose different skins they like and buy up 1 or 2 each, or none at all (like me, who hates most DLC and thinks it's a waste of money...generally).
So in essence, they aren't actually offering $60 worth of DLC, but providing a wide array of DLC that can and will be consumed in separately, which TOTALS $60. Subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless.
Disclaimer: I've only ever bought Mass Effect DLC (because the game is crack) and the poker DLC for RDR.

Re: It Sounds Like Shuhei Yoshida Is As Tired of Annualised Franchises As You Are

ComicBookGuy

@FullbringIchigo what you said! It's an insult to have a sequel with the same damn glitches and bug, let alone the same crappy textures year after year. I mean, since they aren't doing any engine development year on year, you'd think they'd spend time just polishing the new installment.
And sports games aren't excluded. FIFA has pretty much looked the same since 11 now. They could've patched in new rosters and even some of the gameplay enhancements as paid DLC year on year rather than a full release, then simply release a major update every couple of years as a full game.
It's a bad practice and it makes games I used to love and respect feel milked and cheap. I honestly have 0 interest in AC and CoD anymore, even though MW1/2 and AC2/2.5/2.75 were some of my favourite games.

Re: You Won't Need to Be a Knight to Nab the Platinum Trophy in PS4's The Order: 1886

ComicBookGuy

@edgey yeah, the infamous games have good plats. A couple of missable ones too to keep you focused on the plat. Although, infamous 1 was one those plats that nearly drove me insane. Needed 1 last shard for the last trophy and I had methodically covered the entire very large map 3 times to no avail. Found it randomly when I stopped looking. That was a pain in the bum!
But yes, some games are for people who literally play games for a living or just have ridiculous amount of not just time and patience, but also gamer skill. Being worlds NUMBER 1 BOXER IN EVERY CLASS ONLINE seems like it rules out most people! Or games like GT which require you to gold everything and beat an actual world record set by an F1 driver....people do it, but AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT!
Proudest platinum for me is either RDR or KZ SF. I had to put in the work!

Re: Talking Point: Has PlayStation Now's Subscription Service Put You on Cloud Nine?

ComicBookGuy

@PMasterTy9 yeah I guess it's a pretty massive country heh. I recall reading a really long comment thread on Kotaku about caps once. Seemed like a vast chunk of states were pretty much monopolised by a couple ISPs who then charged through the nose for fairly puny limits.
Used to be common in the UK too, but there are SO many ISPs (in a relatively small country) competing that it quickly vanished.

Re: Analysts: Xbox One Will Catch Up to PS4 in 2015

ComicBookGuy

It doesn't seem to matter how good the PS4 is, how it's priced, which awesome exclusives come out, Microsoft have a large group of incredibly loyal fans (in the US and UK) and they will buy it in troves once the new Halo drops. If MS didn't have the US fan base, it would've shut down the Xbox division long ago.

Re: UK Sales Charts: A Familiar Top Five Finishes 2014

ComicBookGuy

Sigh
Getting a bit tired of these predictable patterns. Not that there's anything wrong with CoD/FIFA, but some people really don't play anything else! It's a shame considering the gems that are out there.
I've been giving destiny the cold shoulder and playing Velocity 2X and Valiant Hearts, which have both been far more engrossing than that grind fest.
Also tired of CoD:AW after campaign and a few rounds of Exo. Meanwhile, the 17 trillionth game of Real Madrid v Barcelona was played in FIFA "this year edition".

Re: Feature: 10 PS4 Firmware Update Features That Need to Be Added in 2015

ComicBookGuy

@get2sammyb I noticed a glaring bug with the library of games during the Xmas outage.
Velocity 2X wasn't in my ribbon of 15 apps, so I loaded the library, found Velocity, it was installed, so pressed X and rather than launch the game it loads the game's product page (the one that shows videos, recent activity etc). However, due to PSN being down, it couldn't load the content, INCLUDING THE START BUTTON! So I couldn't launch the game until I disabled the 15 app limit. Really odd...

Re: Sony Engineers Investigating as PS4 Goes Offline Again

ComicBookGuy

@GypsysPearl DDoS stands for DISTRIBUTED Denial of Service.
The attack comes from millions upon millions of infected machines (bots on a botnet) around the Internet. Sony's logs will show each and every single request that made it through their firewall, but when you have millions of IPs all belonging to unsuspecting computer noobs, there is literally nothing anyone can do to stop this.
Understand this, you cannot stop DDoSs from happening, and LS are as much hackers as I am a jar of Marmite; they bought bots and pointed them at a Sony IP... A child can do this!
A company can only employ better packet filtering and specific DDoS mitigation hardware or services (like Cloudflare for example) to protect themselves. Beyond that, Nada!

Re: Why Haven't We Seen More of Gravity Rush 2? You'll Find Out Soon

ComicBookGuy

Shame about it possibly not coming to Vita, since the first one was a game that was perfect on handheld and one of my top 3 Vita games (despite that ending...).
But all that aside, I DON'T CARE! This IP is awesome and I just wanna see it on any device! Hopefully they can make it scale and have more gameplay variety on a proper console.
Looking forward to this!

Re: Weirdness: Sony Yanks The Interview Amid Intensifying Threats

ComicBookGuy

@BetweenTheTrees farrrrrrrrrr more offensive movies have been made. This doesn't even come across as offensive. We can't have people shut stuff down they don't like just cos they are butthurt by the subject matter. Plenty of films disturb and offend me (some are tasteless and directly attack ethnic or religious groups by depicting them in a totally inaccurate and inflammatory manner), but if people want to watch them and enjoy them, that is their choice. I'm not gonna go firebombing all of a sudden. Most of the stuff Sasha Baron Cohen does, although funny as hell, seems far worse than this.

Re: Could a Future PS4 Firmware Update Bring Online Friend Notifications?

ComicBookGuy

@rastamadeus you are partially right. Messages worked brilliantly until around the time Destiny came out. It's been better the last 2 weeks, so it seems like they are working on it, and one can assume it Will be fixed, so take my point as relevant under optimal conditions.

The distraction arguments comes from the amount of media I watch on my PS3 and PS4. It's annoying to constantly have people sign on and off while watching a movie. For that reason and the other reasons I gave, I'll probably disable this if they ever release it.

Re: Preview: Is PS4 Exclusive The Order: 1886 a Revolution or a Relic?

ComicBookGuy

I'm starting to think that either I'm a freak in the minority, or everyone will always trash a game for even hinting at linearity, QTEs and cut scenes.
@tulaib_100 made me realise something: The Walking Dead is literally a game of QTEs and contextual gameplay, with very limited environments to explore. Was it rubbish?? Story wise it had choice, but ALWAYS having choice doesn't actually make a good game. Sometimes a good writer can just tell us a good story! Not all games need complex inventory and upgrade systems or very deep gameplay mechanics.
Variety is good. The world is big enough for Heavy Rain AND Dark Souls, believe it or not.

Re: Could a Future PS4 Firmware Update Bring Online Friend Notifications?

ComicBookGuy

Why do people keep requesting this very annoying feature? Why I think it's useless, particularly on PS4:
1) districting as hell, especially since they upped the friends limit
2) if some one comes online and wants to pay with you they will let YOU know
3) if you want to play with some one and they aren't online, you can just message them by totally different means (SMS, WhatsApp, Viber, hangouts, etc)
4) if the person isn't a close friend and you don't message them outside PSN, just massage them via PSN and they will get notified immediately via the mobile app or as soon as they login to their PS4
5) it's distracting as hell!

There's literally not a single use case for this pointless feature, for ME anyway...would love to hear how you guys use it; perhaps I'm missing something?
Since the PSN has been made more social, people get game invitations even when offline. I think that's Sony's intention as it always opens ALL friends (even offline ones) when you are selecting people to message or invite to game or party.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite PlayStation Startup Sequence?

ComicBookGuy

I'm gonna ignore the OVERWHEMLING nostalgia I feel when watching that PS1 video, and be objective about this.
PS2 for me. Simple, slick, cool, and that smoke-fade-in of the logo is killer. It screams "this here console is da shiznit!". Of course PS1 is a very close second.
PS3 was classy and mature but a bit meh, and PS4...well, I just LOOOOVEEE that beep followed by a health warning on what looks like a BSOD... =/

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 48

ComicBookGuy

@kupo DAAAAMN! Thanks for the heads up. Might have to make a note to back my saves from time to time!
But yeah, half-way through Chapter 2 now and it's getting more interesting by the minute. However, my quest list is SOOO long I don't even know what I need to do anymore. Proof that games have been dumbed down, as 10 years ago I wouldn't even need a quest list to keep track of the story haha.

Re: PS4 Loses Black Friday Battle, Research Firm Claims

ComicBookGuy

@Hero-of-WiiU yeah that was a bit lame heh. To qualify, MANY people already own a PS4, and for that reason fewer will sell over time. Had I had the money, I probably would've picked up an Xbox over the weekend for exclusives and stuff. I wouldn't have bought another PS4 though if you see what I mean.

Re: PS4 Loses Black Friday Battle, Research Firm Claims

ComicBookGuy

The fact that:

  • MS has so much more brand loyalty in US than Sony
  • MS probably entered a loss per unit for these deals
  • It was black Friday and US parents are picking up "and xbox" (not a games console) for their kids' Christmas presents
  • Sony outsold MS for 11 months running in that region
  • Pretty much everyone owns a PS4 already
... Kinda makes this a hollow victory if you ask me.
But fanboys will be fanboys and there's lots of glee around the various gaming forums atm.

Re: Watch PlayStation's Iconic Controller Evolve in Front of Your Eyes

ComicBookGuy

Could never get used to asymmetric sticks. Happy Sony stuck with this. Even use my spare DS4 for PC gaming now.
I think the battery life is decent (not as good as DS3 obviously) but the quality of the rubber on the sticks is my pain point. It takes only a couple of weeks to begin to see wear. My launch DS4 is pretty much completely smooth! =/

Re: Just What Is Sony Santa Monica Working on for PS4?

ComicBookGuy

@eLarkos heh, fair enough. Different tastes and all.
Tbh, not entirely sure why I love the games so much, I think it's just the meat headed kratos. I'm usually into deeper games, but GoW just captivated me and I think the story is great too, as well as the epic boss battles. They are just fun games IMHO.

Re: Just What Is Sony Santa Monica Working on for PS4?

ComicBookGuy

One of the biggest GoW fans here (6 platinums) and two things irk the hell out of me when reading people's negative comments about the series:
1) It's a casual or easy game (as @eLarkos said). I challenge you to play the games on Chaos difficulty or finishing all the various trials modes available. It's gaming bliss for twitchy fingered people. Either that, or I suck at games, however without sounding cocky, I really don't!
2) They should do a different mythology. No thanks. Kratos == GoW. If they are leaving Kratos and mythical Greece behind, I'd rather they made a different franchise with a different name, since calling it GoW would just go to disappoint hardcore fans like myself.

SSM are hands down my favourite studio in WWS (tied with ND of course) and anything they make is likely to be a must buy for me. I hope they either call it a day with GoW and make another spectacular series, or stay true to the originals with evolved gameplay.

Re: Talking Point: Is This Gaming's Most Disappointing Ever Year?

ComicBookGuy

I've never gamed as much as I have this year. I'm fatigued. Between my PS4, Vita and my shiny new PC, I've sunk a hundreds of hours into gaming this year.
I think people's expectations were too high. Had a blast with all Sony first party titles, even platinum'd a few of them. Looking forward to Bloodborne, Evolve and Uncharted now. In the meantime, I'll be on FC4 and Civ Beyond Earth. Might also get GTA5 of enough people migrate to ps4; that game is hilarious with friends.

Re: Eye Witness Claims Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Looks 'Scarily Real' on PS4

ComicBookGuy

@DerMeister Yes, that would be a far better way to approach the gameplay and overall narrative. Picking up a chain gun and getting trophies for 500 headshots isn't very "everyman" heh.
I think it's a larger problem action games face. I had the same issue with the brilliant Tomb Raider last year. Her first kill was a momentous moment, but after putting an arrow through the 1000th enemy's head, it had kind of lost its taste.
TLoU did a great job of making the fighting (against humans at least) seem gritty and as a matter of life and death, but even that got a bit too much towards the end.
There are so many areas in all these games where enemies suddenly show up where I think "why can't this just be an environmental puzzle, where you need to find your way out, rather than killing people and head for the door". I got faith in ND though... I think they are aware of this and hopefully we will see something similar to what you suggested in UC4.

Re: Eye Witness Claims Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Looks 'Scarily Real' on PS4

ComicBookGuy

@rastamadeus hmm, dunno man. While I would say the shooting got old in all 3 games failry quickly (also, how can I see a genocidal mass murderer as a protagonist?!) the gameplay and set pieces have always been top notch. Closest thing to an Indiana Jones game for me. They are fun and full of acting gems, with real chemistry between the characters. I'm super hyped for this, but truly hope they learn from TLoU and tone down the genocide of poor canon fodder baddies.
