I think they felt the waves of negative impact on their brand (all that seemed to be out there was bad news) and they've actually had to communicate some of the good things they've done.
I can just echo what so many people have said above. A large amount of games launch in a buggy and broken state.
You can chose to pay the publisher to be a beta tester or wait a couple of months to get a better game at half the price. The only place this doesn't happen (in general) is with Nintendo - a day one purchase from them has almost always been rock solid - they get the pre-orders.
Feels a bit like Sony's internal studios are focusing on Blockbusters, but they are getting other developers to build their more diverse titles. Might be their strategy.
Also Gamepass is a huge sucsess. But in parallel, we now have the £70 game. The delta between £40 and free was bad... but now it's £70 and free - that's an even harder pill to swallow.
It's like running a record label. You sign a few bands, some go nowhere, some create something incredible (that only a few people really love but it becomes a cult classic that builds over the years), some become massive and sell millions of records (but eventually split up or people get bored of them).
You can't just build your brand around those established acts. Where is the succession planning? What's going to be next when everyone is sick of Uncharted, TLOU, Spiderman, and God of War?
And when you do support a team to do something different (I'm looking at you Returnal) don't charge £70 for it! Sure the Rolling Stones can charge £70 for a ticket, but when you are Ricky & The Spoons it's commercial suicide (and if it sells badly will say "See, no one wants these sort of games")
The insistence of forcing multiplayer in puts me off this so much. I really enjoyed BulletStorm, but the second I read it was an online game I lost interest.
I would guess (utterly guess) that they've limited capacity for PS3 emulation (as they use custom silicon with the equivalent of 8 PS3's on one board) for streaming.
It feels like they are really holding back at the moment, they've clearly got some big things in development - but the console is selling out and there isn't much competition from X-Box at the moment. I suspect when Microsoft get going with their studios Sony will announce more.
I'm interested in this, but the MMO bit really puts me off. If I can just enjoy a single player game without other people interrupting me I'd be happy .
It didn't look great on the XB1X and was slightly better on the XBSX. I think it's definitely a case of waiting for the proper next gen patch in 2021 - as this was a case of a struggling current gen version and a struggling current gen version running on new hardware without optimisation for that hardware.
It's a game that I love the style and atmosphere of. But it's just too frustrating for me - I'm very impatient too. It doesn't suit my mindset whatsoever. But it looks amazing.
They added so much too it and I never went back as I'd kinda completed it and moved on. It's the incentive I need to see all the new things they've added. Silly, I know, that it takes a trophy list to do that.
I don't like the shared trophy list at all, the chance to play it on both consoles and get the trophy's twice is my preferred way. I'm looking forward to playing through things like No Man's Sky (which I Platinumed at launch) again with all the updates and earning the trophies again. Also Borderlands 3, Mortal Kombat 11 have a new lease of life earning them again.
I really hope they do this to The Witcher 3 as well. It's nice to play through these games again with the trophies to earn.
It's a bit confusing as I would have thought they'd all have HDR enabled. But it reads like only Immortals Fenyx Rising and Riders Republic have HDR. Surely Watch Dogs Legion is crying out for HDR with it's ray-traced neon streets.
I wonder if this will have a shared PS4/PS5 trophy list (also think the same of AC Valhalla, Mortal Kombat 11, Dirt 5 (and many other cross gen titles)) or you can platinum it on both.

Re: Hands On: Why You Should Be Hyped for Returnal, the Next Great PS5 Exclusive
Ultra-hard roguelike with no persistence. I wouldn't get the value out of a game that would frustrate me too much.

"However, the hardcore bubble is often where perceptions are planted, ready to bleed into the mass market"
Nailed it. That's how influencers work. From those small (but powerful) acorns grow mighty oak trees.

Re: Days Gone 2 Not Given the Greenlight, Sony Bend Working on Something New
I'm really not a fan of Sony's current direction at all. A few big blockbusters titles and nothing else isn't really very exciting.

Re: Outriders Is Going to Be a Commercial Crater on PS5, PS4
Free vs £60..... Hmmmmm
Re: PS5 Players Unable to Upgrade Yakuza: Like a Dragon for Free
The upgrade system is an unintuitive mess.
Re: Talking Point: Did Sony's State of Play Livestream Meet Your Expectations?

Re: Returnal PS5 Gameplay Trailer Focuses on the Ever-Shifting World of Atropos
Looks intriguing, but I'm still not mentally ready to pay £70 for games. Need to see much more of this to justify such a high price tag.
Re: Reaction: Sony's New PS Store Is Actively Preventing Fans from Spending Money
It is quite hard to comprehend that this store was their intended user experience. It is truly awful.
Re: Kojima Productions Will Mark Fifth Anniversary with 'Exciting Updates' Tomorrow
PS5 upgrade for Death Stranding would be ace as I haven't actually go round to starting the game.
Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year 2020?
Good stuff this year, was hard to pick, but went for:
Ghost of Tsushima
Astro's Playroom
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Hotshot Racing
Re: What Time Is The Game Awards 2020?
I'll sleep through this and wake up to the best bits of news here.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2 Battle for Player's Voice Win at The Game Awards
Ghost of Tsushima gets my vote. Amazing game with a great story arc. Plus beautiful to explore.

Re: Hands On: Sackboy: A Big Adventure Is a Papercraft Marvel on PS5
We'd seen so little of this that I was concerned it would be a bit meh.... Glad to see it's the opposite.
Re: PS5 Doesn't Have a Web Browser
Thank goodness. Nothing worse than when a game wants to sign into their site and you've got to the fight the browser UI.
Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Adds Solo Tours, Crash Bandicoot Gear in Today's Free Update
It's great to see a game doing so well and getting such support that isn't a live service or micro-transaction heavy slog.
Re: Sony Adds Game Names to New PlayStation Store on Web Browser
It's just such a poor experience now, let's hope it regains some of the functionality of the previous site soon.
