As you'd expect, Atlus isn't quite ready to talk about Persona 4 Revival in any real detail just yet — but that hasn't stopped series producer Kazuhisa Wada from commenting the team's approach to such a project.
In a fresh interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer (as translated by Persona Central), the interviewer pushes Wada to say something about Revival. After all, we've only been handed one very brief trailer up until now.
Admittedly, Wada doesn't give much away, but his answer suggests that Revival is going to be very similar to Persona 3 Reload in terms of scope.

He explains: "Persona 4 already packed a ton of content in Persona 4 Golden, so when it comes to creating the next “R,” it’s not just about adding more — we have to create an experience that’s enjoyable in a new and different way."
Indeed, Reload didn't try to redefine the original Persona 3. In the end, it was a very faithful remake with regards to story and structure, but at the same time, it felt like a new game. We think that's what Wada's getting at here.
Having said that, it does sound like there's going to be one big difference between the two remakes. Reload was based on the initial PS2 release of Persona 3 — not the expanded FES version. Instead, Episode Aigis — which covered the content of FES — was added as paid DLC.
In contrast, it's assumed that Revival will be using the expanded Persona 4 Golden as its base instead of the original Persona 4. Wada obviously points to this being the case in the above quote, but Revival's announcement trailer also featured a music track specifically from Golden.
Wada continues: "To be honest, it’s a tough challenge. But it’s shaping up nicely!"
As for when we'll actually get to see Revival again... well, we could be waiting on that for a while. Publisher SEGA isn't expecting the remake to launch until at least fiscal year 2027.
And on that note, don't even think about mentioning Persona 6 in the comments section below.

Good, and similarly to Reload I do not expect this to just be P4G HD.
The original game had such a fantastic voice cast and art direction, I'm not saying that the new guys won't be fantastic either (Reload's new cast was great), BUT there is a certain magic that Golden has, and I'm glad it's still easily accessible. Looking forward to this releasing in 2027.
Can't wait for the Persona 5 Remake announcement
Can't wait, Persona 4 Golden was the first game I got the platinum for on vita.
I bought the game in a sale because I wanted a cosy little portal game, but the news of a remake makes me wonder if I should advance any further into it.
Just don't change the story and everything will be fine.
He can do what he wants, but with some games it’s the “localisation team” that make the final difference.
Welp, if persona 3 reload is their template, they sure need to improve. Include all the additional content from previous releases of p4 and please, please, for the love of god, don’t use a graphic engine that feels like 10-15 years dated on release date. What’s the point of remaking the game if it looks like a ps3 release?
I recently did a playthrough of P4G and gotta say, this game really aged like milk. I'm just curious to see how they'll go about fixing the problematic parts of the story (Yosuke's homophobia, Naoto's arc etc.) NG+ mode needs a revamp too. We should be able to carry our equipment over like in 3 and 5.
Very interested to see how it turns out. I love Golden and have faith they can do it justice, but we'll see. Cautious optimism, and all that.
The story should remain the same, don't change it for the sake of censorship.
There's probably going to be secret super bosses from other persona games.
Yeah if its not based on Golden then don't bother.
@GloriosaDaisy ah, so you are that "modern audience" I keep hearing about.
@GloriosaDaisy The game is a masterpiece. Yea some things have aged badly, but Naoto’s arc isn’t one of them. I will say Yusuke was annoying on that especially since Kanji wasn’t doing anything bad.
@Dalamar The “modern audience” is usually why I don’t buy remakes. I hate the original being changed and/or censored.
Where we at on P6?
@GloriosaDaisy These kind of views are way too defensive over how characters organically react, especially for the time period and their age. Blows my mind that people expect characters to be written to accept and understand everything all the time. Let them grow.
People talk about whatever unnecessary remakes over the years but THIS is the most unnecessary remake that's come out recently lmao
If they want a remake then why not Persona 1 or 2? But eh, i don't trust Atlus nowadays. They probably gonna make a lot of unnecessary changes.
@GloriosaDaisy There's nothing problematic with Persona 4 story or characters. Just like irl, there's people like Yosuke who are not comfortable interacting with transgender and there's people like Kanji or Naoto who struggle with their identity as well their family tradition and expectation. That's the point with Persona 4 where the characters has questions and problems with theirself but they overcome the walls with the help of their friends.
@GloriosaDaisy As others have pointed out, there's nothing problematic in the game. These are teenagers from a rural town who don't spend their lives attached to social media, that has a profound effect on their ability to understand things that exist outside of societal norms and how they react when faced with them.
As someone who spent my teenage years in a rural town before the rise of the internet, I can tell you that I said and did a lot of stupid and hurtful things (to others and to myself) simply because I didn't know better. Age, however, bought experience and wisdom that allowed me to grow as a person.
Likewise, the characters in the game learn and grow from their experiences and become better people because of it.
Expecting characters who's culture and cultural reference points are different to your own to be changed to satisfy your own values and beliefs because you find them distasteful says more about your own intolerance and close-mindedness than it does the game.
Adding more… the games are already bloated and overlong… streamlining the experience would be controversial but better imho.
I liked Persona 3 Reload quite a lot. It's basically Persona 3 with some nice new bits and some QOL improvements. Hopefully they just do the same with Persona 4. I would imagine they'll keep the Golden stuff since Golden is way more important to Persona 4 than the extras were in 3. Golden is also the way a lot of people played the game the first time around.
Also I don't think they really need to do anything with the story. Story is great as it is. Doesn't need to be any longer - or not much longer anyway, and it doesn't really need anything cutting. Just make it pretty, add some new nonsense into it, we're solid.
