Re: All the Big Names Will Be on Revamped PS Plus, You'll Just Have to Imagine Which

thefourfoldroot

For me, the big thing would be that there can now be no duplication between ps plus and ps now games as there has been in the past. Also, it’s good that there will still be some games that are ours to keep as long as we are subscribed (meaning we can’t miss them as they leave the service).
Of course, we don’t know if the number of games will drop.
This is all somewhat meaningless for me now though as, without an upgrade path for my 2+ years of Plus, I won’t be getting this until at least late 2024

Re: Savvy PS5, PS4 Users Stocking Up on PS Now Subs to Convert into PS Plus Premium

thefourfoldroot

@Milktastrophe
True, although even currently there is no set number (with some months having games added that aren’t even mentioned); they’ve also started just taking games from the service randomly - although perhaps that is a temporary thing to do with the service changing.
For me though, I don’t have enough time to play by someone else’s schedule, so these services just don’t appeal generally. I might sub every 2 or 3 years to play a bunch of permanent additions.

Re: Savvy PS5, PS4 Users Stocking Up on PS Now Subs to Convert into PS Plus Premium

thefourfoldroot

Don’t think I’ll bother. It should go on sale for £70-80 at points anyway if Sony stay consistent. Plus, I doubt Sony will add games to the download library (separate from the standard plus subscription) at a rate to justify doing more than a “year on, year off”.
I’m also annoyed that my 2 years of plus doesn’t have any type of upgrade path, meaning by getting the top tier now I’ll effectively be paying for the basic level twice.

Re: PlayStation Boss Promises More Acquisitions Are Planned

thefourfoldroot

I’m not really a fan of platform holders buying multiplatform devs. As long as they don’t do a MS and go for exclusivity I can accept it though. Fact is, Sony cannot afford to let MS buy all the talent and lock away popular IPs. Sony, hopefully, can’t afford to buy devs to do the same and will keep things multiplatform apart from new IPs
In relation to who they might buy, I’m hoping Sega. I couldn’t be without the Yakuza /LJ games.

Re: Game Devs More Excited for PSVR2 Than Any Other Headset

thefourfoldroot

@MattBoothDev
I’llm sure it will be scalped, although the higher the RRP and the lower the PS5 install base, the less likely that’ll be a big issue as long as they make enough.

For me it’s a must have. Until Unreal 5 is in common use, and cross gen games are still a thing, the actual PS5 won’t produce anything truly next gen other than PSVR2.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Biggest Problem Is Consumer Relations

thefourfoldroot

Let me try again without the “inappropriate language” lol (that makes it seem like I said something really bad Pushsquare!)

So, yes, ever since the global centralisation of their various national arms (or tentacles in some cases) lots of things, such as their consumer relations, developer relations in Asia, and censorship policies, have been…bad.

Re: Poll: Will You Subscribe to Sony's New PS Plus Tiers?

thefourfoldroot

@SeanOhOgain
Me too, I remember buying a VITA because I just had so many games got it that it was silly not to own one. Also good getting PS3 games.
On the plus side, I didn’t expect that they’d give larger PS5 games so soon. I remember when I got PS4 we’d get the likes of Resogun and Contrast…

But, definitely they said two games, so I’m happy enough to be getting three given my PS3 is mothballed anyway (shame about VITA though, I still play it on occasion).

Re: Reaction: PS Plus, PS Now's Makeover a Necessary and Positive Step for Sony

thefourfoldroot

If the ps1 and psp games (especially) have trophy support I’ll be all over them. If they have no additional challenges however, then I’ll likely just play a few for the sake of nostalgia but not that many.

Streaming to a TV doesn’t interest me at all, but if they add a good streaming solution to my phone then that’ll be well worthwhile.

I’m glad they’ve kept it cheaper by only including older games because I can’t get through that many too quickly these days so sub services need to be low cost to match my low play time. This also means I have a big backlog of older games anyway, so I have less need for new games than your average teenager for example.

Of course it all depends on the games ultimately, so we’ll see what the catalogue is like.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives May Get Worse if Free with PS Plus Day One

thefourfoldroot

At this stage in my life I’m far more interested in new games and devices like PSVR2, than saving a few hundred quire a year through a sub (which wouldn’t even by true in my case as I tend to but I hen cheaper then trade on).

Maybe when I retire that’ll change. Then I’ll have less money and more time, and subs would make sense.

Re: Poll: Will You Subscribe to Sony's New PS Plus Tiers?

thefourfoldroot

@IonMagi
Oh, I understand, didn’t get your wording. Would have been good if they specified how many per month were added to the collection.
Regarding your comment about it being the same ps1/2 games on Now already - there aren’t any PS1 games as far as I know ( and certainly no PSP), so I’m sure they are adding more (ParRappa the rapper was a remaster wasn’t it),
In fact, the fact there are no VITA games tells me they have an emulator for these, so many could be added pending licensing agreements being valid/renewed (VITA would be a nightmare to emulate given the touchpad controls).

Re: Poll: Will You Subscribe to Sony's New PS Plus Tiers?

thefourfoldroot

Do these older games have trophies? That would give them all an entirely new lease of life and might convince me to go back to them.

Would’ve nice to stream some of the turn based ones to my phone though, no interest or need in streaming to the tv my system is already connected to.

Shame about the PS3 games not being downloadable.

The devil is in the detail. I’d want good games to be included. But I doubt Sony will do a MS and get the likes of Yakuza LoD, not when it’s significantly cheaper that their offering.

Re: PS Plus, PS Now Merged Service Revealed, Goes Live in June

thefourfoldroot

If the ps1,2, and VITA games are good and there are enough of them, and they have added trophy support, I might consider the top tier.

No interest in streaming to my TV, but if they eventually let us stream to phone then this will be good.

Went to buy ps now but, unfortunately, they only sell the 1 month version now lol.

As i usually get plus for £35, and have two years stacked, I’ll likely wait for some type of sale and my plus to run out though. Shame there is no plus upgrade path.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus PS5, PS4 Games for April 2022 Leaked Early

thefourfoldroot

Not sure about this for me. The stealth online multiplayer is a definite no; usually I don’t like roaguelikes, but I do like single player deckbuilders, so I might be in but not if it’s a game that strongly encourages buying packs. I’ll check it out; SpongeBob? I was never a fan of the cartoon, but maybe the game is good. Never considered it but that’s what plus is for, games that you wouldn’t normally consider buying but which you might enjoy.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get my £3 worth for the month of ps plus, so try not to complain.

Re: Lost Judgment DLC The Kaito Files Out Now, Here's a Launch Trailer

thefourfoldroot

@sonicmeerkat
Well, given this is a DLC with existing characters, in an existing location (meaning few if any new assets created), no thought put into trophy challenges (the Yakuza games have some of the most fun platinum hunts of any series for me) and, yes, only around a quarter of the chapters…I’d say pricing it at nearly half the cost of the main game is not really reasonable. For me anyway.

Re: PS5's DualSense Dubbed the Best Controller of All Time in Public Vote

thefourfoldroot

Honestly…the PS4 controller is more comfortable in my hand, and the trigger buttons losing their ridge has caused a few accidental hits of L1/R1 , plus not having the light bar means it, annoyingly, can’t be used with my PSVR but, apart from a few niggles like this, for its features, yes, definitely the best.
You could improve it further with programmable paddles on the back though, I was disappointed this wasn’t a thing after the PS4 controller add-on.

The most annoying thing about PS controllers since the six-axis has been how under-utilised the motion features are. Could have been great for aiming in first person games for example…but that’s really MS’s fault for wanting only the basics and devs not wanting to make different versions of the same game.

Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for PS5, PS4 in April 2022 Do You Want?

thefourfoldroot

@MrGilly69
Cool, I think you’ll like Amular, just don’t stress about doing all the side quests and listening the the incessant chatter. The fun is in the diverse combat options for me, and the trophy challenges, which force you to experience all the different skill trees).

Definitely do try Yakuza, such good games. I can also second the Tales games (although don’t even bother with the plat for Symphonia, 6 playthroughs is not a reasonable use of my playtime!).

I’m going to start KCD today most likely (again, had it ages through plus but have never got around to it). The trophy list did put me off a bit I must admit, but I’ve enjoyed doing worse lol).

Edit: I misremembered, it was Greedfall, so I’ll start that.

Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSP Games

thefourfoldroot

I loved the VITA, but never had a PSP. And as no PSP games had trophy challenges, I never played any PSP games on the VITA either. They were generally just innately lesser experiences for this reason than all the other games I had still to play. There’s a few games I always meant to get to despite this, but I just always had too many full games to play. Shame, really, that these games were never remade for PS4 or VITA.

Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for PS5, PS4 in April 2022 Do You Want?

thefourfoldroot

Catherine and tales of arise as always.

@MrGilly69
As a similar game to those you mentioned, I would definitely recommend Kingdom’s of Amular Re Reckoning. I finally got around to it after getting it through PS Plus and it’s a phenomenal game. Have to skip a lot of side quest dialogue (and even a lot of side quests as they are a bit overbearing) but the world and the combat are a lot of fun.

And, for something slightly different, the Yakuza series (start with 0, then through to 6 at least). It’s my favourite series from nearly 40 years of gaming.

If you like going for plats, the Yakuza games are extremely rewarding, with lots of diverse tasks to accomplish. Kingdoms of Amular is also good, with only a few missables.
