@WildFireX
What’s with all the insults 🤷♂️ I really don’t care if someone calls me bad at games, maybe I am, who knows? who cares? And I don’t see what that has to do with DLC?
I’ll be getting this and loving it. But I haven’t played a GT since the PS2 (mainly had a 360 a couple of gens ago, and didn’t care for the online focus of GT Sport). So yeah, for all I know I could have forgotten how to play racing games since Drivevlub and Dirt 5, which is all I’ve played in the genre for a while.
@WildFireX
“Not to mention they make adjustments to how things work, & bring in tournaments for sport mode every few months“
Don’t get me started on live service games! Lol
I’ll ignore all your insults as the world’s got enough negativity already.
Just to say though, unfortunately, I’m no kid. Been playing GT since it’s first incarnation, and of course it’ll be easy (well, getting top on some of the licenses used to have me pulling my hair out, but back then I actually was a kid).
@twitchtvpat Not if it’s a few cars or tracks. Hell, not even full story content. Got rid of Witcher 3 and Zero Dawn long before the DLC released. I’d rather play a full game than go back to a game I’ve mostly forgotten and be expected to pick up the thread for a tiny piece of extra content.
@get2sammyb
Exactly that. Might be stupid, but I don’t want to wait around for full content once I’ve moved on from the game. It’s a general issue with DLC for me if I get a game at release. If I’m deep into Yakuza 8 I’ll have little interest in a new car or track. My only issue is now I feel like I have to wait to buy it so I can experience everything together. I realise I might be an outlier as others play multiple games at once or can come back years later and still be in the same mind space.
Well, that’s annoying. I’ll now not feel like I’m getting full value unless I wait until all/most free content has been released. Otherwise I’ll finish the campaign, do all the trophy challenges, then just get rid of the game or lose interest over time…
Unless they announce PSVR compatibility , then I’ll play forever.
Thanks for the answer, that’s really helpful (I would consider myself pretty new here by the way, but time does have a habit of slipping by faster than desired)
I’m personally glad to hear that you can grind a bit to make things easier, I do like to be able to go back to an area in which I previously was decimated and get my revenge, and also like just not having to concentrate so much and retread previous ground.
Generally don’t buy games new, and understand there are a few technical issues to sort out anyway, but this is now on my radar. Going to get past GT7 first though!
Personally, I have no patience for games that require trial and error to learn enemy patterns; whether that be Soulsborne games, or stealth games, etc. However, given this game seems to have multiple options for progression and improvement, combined with the PS5s fast loading times, I have been considering getting this. Can I just ask, is it possible to do all the secret areas in order to level up and make required content easier, or do enemies scale with you (I hate that, btw)?
On topic though, I think that difficulty is different for everyone, so his argument doesn’t hold up. Some players, especially with disabilities, or just generally the elderly for example, might need an “easy” mode to get the same level of challenge as other might have from the normal mode. So they would still get that experience of overcoming hardship.
I am torn though, because if the option is there I’d probably go for it at the first real challenge I faced. My time is valuable, and frustration is a real thing. Those who might say “but if you want the challenge just don’t use easy mode” will never get how hard that can be. The only thing that would stop me doing it is if there would be a trophy challenge for never dropping the difficulty.
Just give us loads of games with the same template, but different characters and stories, and I’ll be happy. Don’t start releasing MMO service crap or the like.
This is so much better!!! Played 1 and 2 (on PS3 I think) and would love to get 3 and 4. So few JRPGs come to western services, which is crazy. They take so long to finish I’m sure they’ll account for additional months of sales.
@Rural-Bandit It is just a Hope rather than expectation but, theoretically, a PC version being available both on PC and portable systems for the same price might mean fewer console versions sold; maybe it could even hit sales of PS5 consoles in the longer term (this presuming day one PC release as others are suggesting Sony should do). Also the fact that Sony are likely to get more money on games in their ecosystem, rather than PC. Especially with micro transactions. But yes, more a desperate Hope than anything else.
While I’m sure Sony are planning something, I really don’t like the “no smoke without fire” saying generally. It’s basically stating that, if enough people believe in something, or if it’s said often enough, then that lends credence to its validity. I think if politics, activism, and religion have shown us anything, it’s that there is no truth to this philosophy; it’s common for a large number of people to believe absolute bullcrap.
But, back on topic, it is not good for games to be removed without a few months notice. I know it’s common on other services, but the surety has previously been an advantage Now has over the alternatives. Don’t take a step back.
@ThorsHammer
Yeah just been playing saints and sinners. It’s undoubtedly great, but just not my type of genre. Same for persistence. Resi7 and others that have been given. Will be playing moss and paper beast for a while. For me the best has been Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
Switching between Kingdoms of Amular Re-Reckoning, and some of the Plus VR games we got recently. The wife is going out so I’m taking the opportunity to move the coffee table and lock myself in a virtual world.
@Deadhunter The first year or so is always good while you eat through the games that appeal. It was the same when I had PS Now for a year. Beyond that you might get one game you really want to play to completion every few months if you’re lucky. At that point it starts being cheaper to just buy those games on sale and have them forever (discounting any workarounds for cheap Gamepass of course).
Firstly, nobody pays monthly, surely(?), so these prices are irrelevant. Beyond that there are simply no details to judge. I mean, how many games are added per month? Does streamline extend to phones now? Are there retro games being added?
If I’m given at least 6 games a month to download, including PS5 games, and these games are of a good standard, then I’ll pay around £75 a year (just over double what plus is on sale at frequently), especially if I can stream games to my phone and there are a good number of turn based and narrative games for that purpose; if we get old ps1, ps2 games, with trophies, en mass via emulation, I’d pay more…
Don’t care about games day one. In fact, I’d rarely play a game day 1. Rather wait until it’s actually finished.
@Fenbops Indeed, it makes me glad for Nintendo’s exceptionalism. Can’t see them doing what Sony have done to devs, even if it means they could get a little bad PR from weirdos.
@naruball
Of course you didn’t that would be weird!
Here, I’ll help, you can just check my comment history at Feb 2nd (page 2 of my comments when you click on my profile).
“ Picked this up physically in CEX for £48, and will return if when finished for £32.
£16 final price is about right for me. Will take a long, long time to get down to that price digitally in sales”
Then:
“ Yes, that is completely correct. I have no guilt about using used game sellers, private or commercial. If Sony would do the right thing and allow trade back on digital licences maybe they could get a part of that pie, but they don’t”
Nothing about only buying second hand. You can even check my PSN profile if you want, where you will see I have played digital only games that can’t be bought physically at all.
I mean, if you are honestly that interested in my thoughts of course, but can’t imagine why you would be.
Seems like there is censorship of “dirty” language too in PlayStation versions only.
During one area, explicit dialogue referencing masturbation has been removed entirely. Developer LKA said this change was due to the scene's location, a psychiatric hospital, which was "context that has been considered inappropriate"
Apologies if it’s in this review, I didn’t bother reading it all as censorship makes the game a non starter for me.
@naruball Lol, when did I say I ONLY play second hand games? I actually said that I have no problem with, and feel no guilt about, getting second hand games because we have no trade in option for (overly expensive) digital purchases.
Cool that you kind of remember stuff I say I guess…although not sure why the snide 🤷♂️
Doesn’t matter how good or bad the game is, if it’s censored I can’t support it with money. In fact, I’d have difficulty playing it for free as I couldn’t forget that I wasn’t getting the true experience. Same with all censored games. Since Sony made a big deal about globalising their international departments, things have clearly been pulled down to the lowest common denominator for censorship. Not too sure about the ergonomics of the controllers though, would like a strap to lock it to the hand but can fashion that. Would also have though that the cable being directly on the top, or at least straight out the back would have been preferable. But these are all slight niggles. The specs are awesome and the inside out tracking a game changer, and that’s what’s important. For what it’s worth, the aesthetic is pleasing too.

Nobody buying this game got anything other than what was expected. Yes, it’s a tried and tested, somewhat stale, format. But with an interesting story / protagonist, competent controls, good performance, and great graphics. Anybody who acts disappointed that it wasn’t something unique purchased something completely blind, or is lying for their own sad fanboy reasons.
Man this looks awesome! I mean, there is nothing at all new here, but the scale and care taken in crafting this world is very impressive. For me though, whether I get it will depend on how much it respects my limited time. The backtracking and trial and error gameplay is why I don’t play souls-like games. If this can be more an actual rpg though, and ideally one where you can save at any point in case of death, I’ll definite be getting this.
Edit: just started reading the comments. Why are people saying the graphics are bad? Or have I missed the tone and they are joking?
Completed and got the plat for the original, but in no rush to get this. It’s not too different from lots of other games I’ve played, so I can wait for the price to drop. Lots to play in the meantime. The only game I’m tempted to get at release is GT7, as I haven’t played one for over a decade (and I trust the passion of the devs to not release an unfinished product).
Fantastic, thank you for this recap! Was thinking I needed to find one but my initial search just brought up blooming videos instead of a good text based recap. Don’t have time to watch loads of cutscenes. This was super helpful. And what a great story.
I don’t really see any sales. Just reductions to their standard pricing before being removed from “sale” again. Would be different if the prices actually went down with every “sale” rather than just dropped to the same price at which I’ve decided not to buy 20 times previously.
Loved the original but, perhaps inevitably given the length, I’d had my fill by the time I got to the identical MM. For me it was just too unoriginal by that point. Glad it is successful though, the devs deserve any success.
@nessisonett
“ So it does make sense that some games would have to be edited to squeak by as an 18+, despite it seeming like they’d have free rein. Perhaps we need some sort of higher age rating, ”
Except it’s being released unmolested on Xbox and switch, so it’s clearly not about ratings at all, just Sony’s puritanical standards unfortunately.
