Re: Death Stranding Looks Strangely Compelling in Extended PS4 Gameplay

stinkyx

I guess I still don’t get it. You deliver packages, and you have to asses the delivery route beforehand and prepare accordingly by setting waypoints and packing the correct gear, which includes ladders that just let you climb in a straight line over the environment? Honestly, on paper it doesn’t sound all that new and exciting, and the somewhat mundane gameplay seems at odds with the strange and beautiful art direction. That last item is what makes this game compelling to me, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it...

Re: River City Girls - Retro Brawling With a Twist

stinkyx

Nice review. Love the pros and cons at the end, btw. I know you’ve been doing it for a while, but it deserves recognition as a recent positive change!

Only thing I would still recommend is a quick one-paragraph hot-take and score from some other staff who might’ve also played it. After all, one person’s 6/10 could be another person’s 9/10! It’s all subjective anyway, so why not throw some extra opinions in there?

Re: Control - Was Remedy's Return to PlayStation Worth the Wait?

stinkyx

Gah, I can’t stand frame rate drops below 30 FPS. No matter how much horsepower you give devs, they always go beyond their means. Tsk tsk. Maybe next gen we’ll FINALLY get 1080p, 60 FPS across the board, but I know we won’t.

Sounds like I’ll wait for the PC release to go on sale. That way I’ll be able to run it at a solid 60 FPS at least, compared to this version.

And this looks like it’s exactly the game for me, but not really worth $60. Paying full price is usually too much pressure to enjoy the game, lol. Like, “This is good. I don’t know about $60 good, but it’s good...”

Re: Death Stranding Exclusivity Discussion Rekindled at Gamescom 2019

stinkyx

My wife has completely taken over the PS4, so I’ve been stuck with my PC and Switch for the past couple years...that’s why I want a PC port, lol! Not to mention that even my old laptop runs certain newer games better than the base PS4 (which I have), so unless I got a PS4 Pro, that would be a less than optimal experience anyway for Kojima’s ladder-climbing masterpiece.

Re: Guide: When Is Gamescom Opening Night Live?

stinkyx

Thanks for having these kinda articles for all the various live gaming events, like this and EVO. Makes it super easy to be a part of the excitement, whereas on most other sites we get a tiny article after the event’s already over.

Re: Interview: Talking About Tamarin, a Unique Nature, Rare, and Nintendo Inspired 3D Platformer Coming to PS4

stinkyx

Nice interview! My only concern with the game is the hero himself...I think he needs some kind of clothing item to make him more than just a monkey (and also less like a Ty Beanie Boo toy). Aside from the fact that all the great animal mascots have an accessory (whether its shoes or a backpack or a tie), it also just kinda looks off when you have a plain monkey shooting a gun. It could also be an opportunity to explain at a glance why a tropical monkey is in a woodland forest and all these other habitats you wouldn’t normally find a tamarin. Maybe a backpack to show he’s traveled far from his home?

Re: GreedFall Dev Spiders Wants to Fill the Void Left by BioWare

stinkyx

I haven’t played a Spiders game since Mars: War Logs because quite frankly they look exactly the same, just with a different setting. It’s more like Witcher-lite, imho. It might be interesting to check this out and see if they’ve improved...in Mars they had really rough stuff like a romance option that goes from “Nice to meet you” to “I love you” in literally 10 minutes of standing there talking!

Re: GreedFall Dev Spiders Wants to Fill the Void Left by BioWare

@Cutmastavictory Summer is absolutely the worst time to release a game! I’m fairly introverted, but I still manage to get out so much that I’ve missed or passed a lot of summer-released games, even through they’ve been #1 on my wishlists. Like Kill La Kill IF this year and LawBreakers before it, for example.

Re: Rumour: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Get a Free to Play Battle Royale Mode After Launch

stinkyx

@East76landS I think it’s worth checking out, if only for a couple hours. The first one I played was PUBG, and I honestly think that’s the best of the bunch. Fortnite has a weird building mechanic shoehorned in from the single player portion, and Apex Legends and Blackout being first person kinda makes the game less fun since it’s harder to spot enemies IMHO (in both solo and squads) which makes ambushes more of a thing. Nothing sucks more than running around for 10 minutes only to get suddenly blindsided and killed by another player or squad. At least when it’s third person you can see the attack coming a little better. Just my thoughts!

Re: New Street Fighter V Characters Leaked Ahead of Evo 2019

stinkyx

Dang, no Viper! But maybe there’s something more that hasn’t been leaked? Regardless, I love me some cop characters, so hopefully Lucia delivers the goods!

EDIT: just saw the video elsewhere, and it looks like that’s all there is to this announcement! However, Lucia looks especially good to me, kinda fights like Blair from Fighting EX Layer with a ton of sweet kicks. Definitely picking up her set, and maybe all of the characters if the price is right!

Re: Garfield Kart Poses a Threat to Death Stranding with November Release Date

stinkyx

Weird, this game is so old at this point! 2013...that’s last gen! All I know is that its a super barebones port of a mobile game that runs like total crap on my $2K PC, so it pretty much has nothing going for it except the license. Pay more than $5 for it and you’ll regret it!

EDIT: Ooohhhh...this is a SEQUEL to the game I mentioned. Oops. Well that changed everything! You guys are using a graphic from the old game, FYI.

Re: Kill la Kill - If - Stunning Visuals Can't Mask a Sloppy Anime Fighter

stinkyx

The issue with waiting for a discount with fighting games that aren’t established franchises is that the online community typically goes stone-cold dead within a handful of months after launch, so unless you’ve got buds who wanna go head-to-head all the time, you’re potentially not getting much outta that discounted price!

Personally I’ve been looking forward to this all year, but it’s still a reeeally hard sell from what I’ve played and heard. I also think it looks horrible...I wish they would add some life to the arenas, for one thing. Wisps of dust and other particle effects, stuff blowing in the wind or bystanders/audience. For some reason, the dead backgrounds really bug me, lol.

Re: Yes, Killstreaks Are Back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

stinkyx

I’m just stuper excited to return to the modern setting! Other than that, nothing I’ve heard so far about the gameplay really excites me. Killstreaks as opposed to pointstreaks or scorestreaks seems like a step backwards, actually.

I’ve gotten every COD every year so, this one’s already pre-ordered. Given that there’s always people playing months after launch, the gameplay is reliable, and the campaigns are fun, it’s a steady series to fall back on. Honestly, I wish other games series would churn out games as fast as COD, with the same high level of polish.

Re: Rumour: Mortal Kombat 11's Entire DLC Roster May Have Leaked

stinkyx

Personally I think this roster is really dumb. For one thing...way too many guest characters. With the the updated game engine, I love seeing the realistic take on classic characters, so it’ll be super disappointing to me if they decide to pull half of the DLC roster from outside the MK universe. Booooo!!!!

Re: State of Play: Mortal Kombat 11 Goes Off the Rails in Story Trailer

stinkyx

@Wazeddie22 NetherRealm Studios is THE BEST when it comes to single-player cinematic stories in fighting games. Really fun 6-8 hour experiences.

Also, if you’re new to fighting games, check out a video series called “Think, don’t mash!” on YouTube (it talks about Street Fighter but it applies to all 2D fighters). Makes fighting games more simple to understand how you’re supposed to play, and thus really get the most fun out of them.

Re: Much Like Dead or Alive 5, Dead or Alive 6 Has $93 Season Passes

stinkyx

@Jaz007 If the pricing for the previous game is any indication, the costumes will be relatively expensive, but then again...it’s refreshing to see a game where you can buy the skin you want instead of RNGing for it. Like I’d definitely like to drop $5 to get a skin of my choice in Overwatch instead of opening dozens of lootboxes to no avail.

@Gamer83 Yeah, not being able to buy stuff individually yet sucks, same with not being able to upgrade to the deluxe edition ($20 for 25 costumes, most which are good IMHO). Considering they’re supposedly releasing a F2P version soon, I’m guessing it won’t be long.

Re: Much Like Dead or Alive 5, Dead or Alive 6 Has $93 Season Passes

stinkyx

@Jaz007 I saw someone break down the total of 63 costumes at $1.99 each and 2 DLC characters at $3.99 each (the low-end of the pricing spectrum) to get a total of $133.35 individually, so you actually get all that stuff for 30% off with the $93 price tag.

Granted, I personally would never buy a giant pack of ALL the costumes, since some of them would likely be palette swaps or dumb looking, and for characters I never use, but still...it’s not as crazy as people make it out to be, especially considering how much you can dump into any game with lootboxes and have nothing to show but a handful of skins you didn’t want and a truckload of spray decals and profile backgrounds.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 261

stinkyx

Dead or Alive 6 is likely gonna be my main game this weekend! Getting the rust out with the training and story modes before I hop online.

Also trying the Division 2 Beta...played the original a looong time ago and wasn’t really into it, but mostly wanted to compare it to Anthem, which I’m surprisingly loving so far (playing on solo, btw, with the hard difficulty so I actually have to think about what I’m doing instead of flying out in the open and spamming abilities).
