Grinding for additional costumes in Dead or Alive 6 is an absolute slog -- so much so that we dinged the game for its unlocking system in our review. Right now, if you want to unlock a new outfit, you need two in-game currencies: pattern parts and gold. Gold is easy enough to obtain -- you just play the game -- but pattern parts are only rewarded in bulk through completing challenge missions. Arcade runs and online matches give you tiny amounts, to the point where if you're actively trying to get new outfits, they're barely worth playing.
This issue is compounded by the fact that pattern parts are assigned to random costumes. In other words, you might not even get parts for the outfits that you want. On top of that, you need anywhere from 100 to 1000 pattern parts to unlock a single costume -- and there are quite a lot of them.
Thankfully, the game's official Twitter account says that improvements to the costume system are incoming. A future patch will attempt to fix things, with the aforementioned randomisation of pattern points cited as an area that can be improved. This update's apparently due mid-March.
In the meantime, there's an in-game event happening right now that's supposed to multiply pattern part gains by 100. This temporary bonus applies to arcade, time attack, survival, and online ranked modes.
How are you finding Dead or Alive 6? Have you found the costume unlocking process to be a bit of a pain? Wear your best outfit in the comments section below.

Pssssst they want you to buy the season pass 1 BS cough cough
You can buy the season pass to unlock a bunch instantly!
The way to unlock costumes in this game is crazy. Also, when you get a 500 part that goes to a 200 costume the other 300 just disappears. Trying to get costumes for your main ain’t gonna be easy. At least Tecmo will do something about it.
Having put some time into the game I actually don't think the 'grind' is that bad. Kind of reminds me of the complaining some did about how difficult it was to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, when it really wasn't that much of a hassle at all. Just play the game. It's crazy to me the way people are today. At 35 I don't consider myself old but I feel it when I see constant complaining about stuff like this. Back in my day we had to go through the game to unlock costumes, sometimes levels, etc. That's part of the fun, imo.
@Gamer83 If this was as simple as just playing through arcade with your favourite character and being rewarded with a costume, it'd be fine. I was fine with the character unlocking in Smash Ultimate because it's straightforward — I just played until I had everyone and enjoyed each character in the process.
The gist of what I'm saying is unlocking things is fun, I agree, but the system in DOA6 is needlessly convoluted.
@ShogunRok
Won't argue that it's needlessly convoluted, I just don't think it's as bad as some have made it out to be either. I do think some of the anger could be mitigated if they'd release costumes that can be purchased individually from the ridiculously priced season pass but that's probably not happening anytime soon so people will have to grind. Hopefully for those who don't like this, further patches can be implemented to fix things even more. Maybe actually get rewarded with a costume for going through arcade on the different difficulties. Stuff like you're suggesting.
@ShogunRok @Gamer83 I enjoy unlocking stuff in games. Unlocking characters in Smash Bros was fun. DO6 is just a little annoying on how it’s set up. My 2 mains are Kasumi and Hitomi, and I rarely have any costumes for em. As for someone like Mila, a character I don’t like to use I can unlock at least 4 costumes with her. The randomness is annoying is all. The quest mode is pretty fun and unique on how to learn stuff though.
The “event” going on right now is a x10 multiplyer, I’m pretty sure (not x100). And yeah...it’s definitely a slog. There should at least be a couple costumes for each character you can objectively get like in the old games (i.e. beat a certain mode).
Out of all the modes which one takes advantage of the x100 bonus, i mean if theres one of those modes that nets you more costume points then i just want to focus on that. No point in playing the others.
Anyone know?
@shonenjump86 ill trade ya your mila parts for my kazumi lol
@Gmork___ lol deal, I’ll probably go with arcade mode for those points. Seems quicker to do rank matches though.
