The prices of both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 have quietly increased on the UK PS Store in the past few weeks, resulting in a £10 price hike for the former and a £5 jump for the latter.
First spotted by our sister site Pure Xbox concerning the Xbox One version of the sequel and the backwards compatible version of the first game, these price increases also apply to the PS4 editions.
The simple PS4 port of Red Dead Redemption began life at £39.99, but the PS Store now has it at £49.99. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been £54.99 since at least June 2021, but it's gone up to £59.99 in the past week. You can see tracking from PS Prices revealing the cost increases:

To reflect the price increases of each game, the bundle of the two titles has gone up by £15, now priced at £99.99, when it used to be £84.99. According to Pure Xbox, the Xbox versions of both games have also seen price increases in Brazil, Czechia, and Chile.
Of course, the price of video games and potential increases is the talk of the town at the moment, as fans speculate if Rockstar will dare to go beyond $80 when it prices GTA 6 — the new standard now set by Nintendo and Microsoft for some of its first-party releases. These price adjustments for two titles in Rockstar's back catalogue have been live for a week now, which would suggest they were meant to be updated, if nobody has caught the change by now and corrected them.
Console hardware has increased in price — for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — in recent months, and Sony has also bumped up the costs of its three PS Plus tiers in select regions. What do you make of these changes? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Ah of course, that’ll offset those increased production costs for digital versions of games that are years old.
The worst thing is that tariffs can't be the reason for this because these are digital titles. Old ones at that. The only reason for this increase is greed. Pure and simple.
Pure greed that is no one can defend this
@nessisonett yes and that’s inflation for you!*
*for a digital delivery system that has no concept of inflation other than profit greed.
@Blofse More money = good. I’m an economist now.
frog, meet pot
And so it begins! £80 for GTA 6 and £100 for the early access version (4 days earlier is my prediction, so 22/05/26!)
Strauss!
My second hand RDR2 was 12 quid and came with a map and two discs.
"Money is the sandpit of the soul"
This could be signalling that upgrade patches are imminent, but most likely it’s just greed.
I still got my ps4 physical disc of red dead redemption 2 .on my ps4 pro.its one of bathe best looking games ever. Word up son
Yeah I noticed the RDR sale price was higher than usual, but it never occured to me that the regular price had also increased.
That's just a f***ing joke and just pure greed as they have long since made their money on these games
No Shark cards? No problem!
@Trauma_Team_Medic all they want do is rip customers off hope it backfires on them I'll be laughing then
These games are only £20 each on Amazon but still people think all digital is a good idea.
Price hike and they can't even be bothered patching it for 60 fps. Scumbags
This doesn’t make sense. The development costs were paid years ago.
Absolute greed and nothing else. I’m fed up with this s***
We are at the age of where the old games get price increases DD
@MrMagic@nessisonett Digital the preferred future gamers are dumb as *****. Getting locked in no choice and no reason to price competive. No trade in value and big Corp that has the choice to pull the games away when they want to.
Good thing I already have those games at launch. I don't mind to paid £80 or more for GTA6
This somehow reminds me very much of Activizion. Rdr2 has been 54.99 since June 2021 apart from when its on sale of course. Are you fu**ing kidding me ??? I have refused to buy it even on sale for the simple reason that when it was on extra and I tried to play it, it takes ages to load. Not optimised for ps5 ??? Im NOT buying it even on sale. Stupid greed, same ***** as Sony, increasing price to a console or game that is 4 years old is a no go. I am only one bit I am voting with my wallet.
checks calendar So it's not April 1st.
They must be mad, expecting people to pay £60 for a 7 year old game. Especially when a pre owned copy can be got for a fraction of the price.
@AshleighKinsella They're no doubt looking at the metrics of their digital sales and saying "this still sells, so give more money, ta".
It's also setting the games up so that next time they're half off (or whatever), people will say "woo, discount now I'll buy", but instead of it being 20 quid, it's 25.
maybe this means the ps5 upgrade is finally coming.
I know people always try to make impossible things possible, but it's just not possible to defend this. Besides pure greed, it takes one a lot of effort to justify this (and convince you)
Know what bodes well? R* making quick turnaround remasters of their legacy games to please investors. If they butcher GTA IV, I swear.
They are clearly getting it ready for a ps5 patched version so it is this price or 10 upgrade
@Yukairi
Yep, no need to buy a new version when my 15 year old copy works just fine on my Series X.
That being said, I did pick it up for the Switch for the decent price of $15 US some time ago just to have it on the go.
@Optimus that was my initial thought too. I may be wrong on this, but I seem to recall The Witcher 3 get a cheeky price increase just before the PS5 upgrade came.
Edit: perhaps I was wrong in terms of non-sale price, but I'm sure it was regularly on sale for like 4 quid then when the free upgrade came the sale price suddenly increased (understandably though).
@nessisonett I suspect it’s like movie studios releasing a big, dumb popcorn flick that will gross a million so it can help finance an art film, only in this case the art film is GtA 6 and they’re trying to stop that game from being priced at $120.
Shouldn't prices on old games drop? Yeah they are great games (loved the first but never bought the 2nd) and I have no intention of buying it either mainly because like the tlou games they just don't scratch my itch. Gta 6 looks bloody good so I'll see what state that launches in before purchasing and of course it all depends on the price.
This is what they've all wanted all along. Complete control of all the content and prices. It's exactly why an all digital industry is so bad for us.
Too bad it’s like £15 on disc at most game shops second hand. This is why we need to keep supporting physical discs.
That’s why I stick to Discs as digital games rip the arse out it with the prices ie Roadcraft digital £34.99 Argos disc version £27.99 why £7 more digital 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
This is life now. Everything is far far far too expensive. Fat cats getting fatter. How the can the price increase on two old games that sell well be justified????
Ah, answered my own question.
Still brings to mind how the ONLY means one can access the PS4/PS5 crossplay version of GTA Trilogy remastered "definitive" edition is its pricier digital version with the ps4 physical version locked to ps4 & no ps5 physical version...& still remembering its missing a number of the songs of the ps2 originals!🙄
Take-two have have transformed the once cool Rockstar that used to poke the bear on the ridiculousness of the excesses that the 80's & 90's etc.,had & turned them into the very corporate entity they ridiculed!😕
@MrMagic £20 today for ultimate edition, so that's that argument blown 🤣

Again I guess its just another reason why we shouldn't shun buying physical, I picked up a copy of RDR 1 last week for £19.99 in Smyths Toys.
I try my best to always buy physical on console, and things like this prove how anti-consumer the digital stores are on consoles.
@playstation1995 ditto, got a copy for RDR2 on PS4 back on release and then more recently got the Xbox One copy as its One X upgrade was superior to the PS4 pros.
I do hope in some way this is foreshadowing and wood on the fire for the rumours of a next gen update to RDR2
@Yukairi I mean unfortunately now that its the only way to play RDR1 at 60fps, its the copy people should be playing if they're going back to it.
But thankfully for us, we can get it pretty cheap physically.
…and yet RDR2 is $15 on Steam right now thanks to a sale (which happens like..all the time, honestly).
Score another win for having competitive storefronts on a platform where sales happen…well…a lot.
It’s only a matter of time before Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will be forced to do what Apple has been forced to do.
Buy it online or a 2nd hand copy from eBay if you want it (and have a disc drive)....
@AgentCooper Breaks are necessary, glad to see basically nothing’s changed!
I should imagine this is due to the PS5 upgrades incoming?
Even if it is, its a damn shame, but if it's not that then its simply greed...
@Cornpop76 Whilst I don't disagree, you can simply buy psn credit cheaper - I always buy with about 15% discount. It takes a few minutes extra when I want to buy games, and to get the best discount rates I often buy £100 at a time, but %15 is significant and helps.
Couple that with nearly always waiting to buy in a sale and the funds I get fr om the PSN rewards scheme and I can't moan about the price I pay for most items...
Only affects people that are stupid enough to pay more for a digital copy of something but I'm sure most people already own the games anyway
@Blofse it costs money to maintain data centers and keep them relevant. Energy bills plus equipment costs.
@Vaako007 yes but in theory the more digital units sold over a shorter period of time the cheaper it is to provide each unit, therefore it’s actually inverse economics there. Also it’s not like each game demands one server, the same server will house 1000s of games, which shift around autonomously depending on demand, so it’s even less than that!
