@ECharles something tells me people react differently depending on their job security. You can tell people "it's no biggie", but the reality is that a lot of lives will be ruined.
@Blauwe_Chimay yes, that's exactly what I read, too! I wasn't sure if things changed over the years, but one thing's for sure. The Nintendo brand is incredibly strong in Japan. For example, I don't know if Steam deck is successful there, despite its insane library, including tons of JRPGs.
@Foxhound yup. Similarly, I wouldn't want Kratos Kart, Kratos football, Paper Kratos, etc. Just create some new ips with new characters. 3ds is the only console I regretted buying. I played Pokemon Y and Super mario (something) and I was surprised how little they'd changed since the gameboy/nes games I played back in the day.
Nintendo used to be my favourite company. Then I saw them relying too heavily on a few IPs, charging way too much for inferior hardware, so I decided to stick to ps consoles. No regrets so far, even though I do prefer Sony from late ps3/early ps4 eras.
Good to see ps5 outselling switch 2. Well deserved, imo. I don't doubt that sales of switch will greatly increase once it gets some more exclusives, but overall, I'd much rather Steam deck or other handhelds succeed.
@DreadfulDragon completely different topics. Incest can result to pregnancies and children with all sorts of health issues. LGBTQ people hurt no one by being in a relationship with other consenting adults.
@Clytorial_Impact sure, there are plenty of parents who used to be gamers, but most people, even the ones who used to play candy crush on their phone know little to nothing about video games. My ex used to play Mortal Kombat on Sega Saturn, yet couldn't care less about video games and still thinks you can pause any game.
@Neither_scene it depends on the person. Some people prefer gaming on their old PC, even if a ps5 would cost far less. I understand that you were replying to a specific comment, but I just wanted to highlight that it's a myth that PC gamers in general have high end rigs. All the estimates suggest very low numbers (as low as 1% of all PC gamers).
I had no idea. Fortnite's success is quite common with some of the most successful franchises, like Friends, Beverly Hills 90210, How I met your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. They all took time to take off. But nowadays no one is willing to wait to turn things around.
I don't mind blatant rip-offs. No matter how much you copy, at the end of the day, the game needs to be fun to succeed. Having said that, I don't see how they expect not be sued by Nintendo. So, isn't it a waste of resources?
@vOLkEN imagine trying to buy a game to play with your friends. All your friends bought it for 50 USD and encourage you to buy it, too, so that you can play after school/work. You come home only to realize that your account has 55 USD credit, but its costs 60 for you (10 more than the rest, because you're a loyal customer and they're not). Personally, I'd be annoyed.
@Enuo if they don't, they risk losing the copyright. The lack of knowledge combined with complete confidence with which people talk about matters they don't know enough is seriously bringing the downfall of society, especially in healthcare (see spread of measles). And social media and "likes" give people the false impression they must be right, since "everyone" agrees with them.
Yeah, this should be illegal. I think most of us are in agreement here.
Having said that, I keep seeing people bringing up the lack of competition, which shows a clear lack of understanding of how markets work.
Even if Sony were the last company making console games, it would not follow that everyone would buy Sony games. Many would choose a different hobby, they'd rather play older games, watch Netflix, etc. Just like movies, lack of competition doesn't guarantee a product will sell.
Also, Sony has competition from Nintendo, Steam and mobile games. Plenty of people are switching to PC, Nintendo is selling extremely well in Japan and well in other countries and most ads are about mobile games, because they make a fortune.
Xbox is still expensive despite the competition it faces from Sony. They also increased (or said and didn't? I can't keep up) prices of first party games, again, despite Sony being a strong competitor.
TL;DR competition doesn't magically fix everything, but people will keep repeating till the end of times. Same with "no publicity is bad publicity" (which has been proven wrong to death already)
@PuppetMaster "I think right now PS brand is in good position with or without small games. But these small games really needs to sell well at least break even to keep Sony happy and give them solid reason to invest towards AA games & small devs. That way, they can also attract more small devs towards PS ecosystem which leads to higher output of small games."
Their latest track record definitely confirms exactly what you're saying. But I still believe that they should look at the bigger picture, like they used. When only 6/10 of the games they made made a profit, but they made them anyway (I don't remember which PS CEO admitted that back in the ps3 era, perhaps?). Because they understood that it helps their brand. And that's how they turned things around with ps3 and ps4. Now they try to maximize profits without taking any loses.
@Gabrielmpf was it supposed to replace Destiny, though? We know Destiny 3 is coming. And many GaaS that have been released lately that try to please everyone, end up pleasing no one. GaaS need to somehow catch people's attention from the get go. I don't know if Marathon has, but in a sea full of GaaS, it stands out (for better or worse).
@rachetmarvel The problem is that if half of the people pirating Sony games on PC were actually buying them, it'd likely make porting them worth the effort. There are several sites that release numbers of most downloaded games. I remember several years ago Dante's Inferno being the most pirated game of that year, even though the game was a commercial failure.

@Blauwe_Chimay I don't know about that. I mean it's selling extremely well in Japan and I think Japan's economy isn't exactly great at the moment.
