@Propaperpusher the exact opposite happened to me. I had no idea I liked this weird genre until I played Hades (1). Now it's all I want to play. But I get what you mean.
@Northern_munkey Oh, man! How awesome is that? Thanks for letting me know. Yeah, it's pretty addictive and well made. Currently playing Nerd survivors, which I find quite enjoyable, but far from great. It lacks a decent budget so it heavily relies on being impossible to beat unless you grind to death just to beat the second stage (which is the same as the first one, but more difficult)
I'll never get tired of singing the first game's praises. It was simply brilliant.
Two things I found particularly annoying:
1. If your controller runs out of battery, the game doesn't pause, which can be infuriating if you're in a tough spot.
2. Because everything is so random, so is triggering certain conversations to get certain rewards and trophies. I got all trophies apart from one and then spent countless hours beating the game over and over again, because I simply didn't know why a certain character wouldn't show up in my room to give me something. Thankfully, right before losing my sanity, it finally happened.
Which reminds me, I should simply play and forget about trophies or being a completionist. The dialogues were so varied and fun that I couldn't let it go.
@jerrylongbones yeah, I get that. Personally, I have no interest in first person games and whatever GTA is, though I did give San Andreas a try back in the day. So, I'm sure most people skip them because they're not interested in them, not for a moral high ground. Even if some people give such a vibe, I'm sure they'd actually play them if they were interested in them in the first place. And they could always pretend they didn't.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner but recent games get discounts as opposed to older games that hardly ever did. Nor did we have the convenience of buying games so easily back in the day. It's impossible to take into account every single factor.
@jerrylongbones I think it may be because a lot of great games fail to sell anywhere near as well, despite being well made, innovative, passion projects etc. So, we don't get a sequel for e.g. Tearaway, but we get CoD 234. As for GTA, it's still sad to see such an old game outperforming new games, considering that they need the sales, whereas GTA clearly doesn't.
@16BitHero the ones that are successful tend to have good budgets and involve excellent actors (even if they don't look or act exactly like them). The recipe for success is pretty clear.
Also, again, even though you're that video games have come far, when a video character says something, it's hard to see them as anything other than a video game character, since they still don't act like human beings 100%. And then when you control them, they don't move 100% like human beings. So in terms of immersion, they are very different mediums.
@TimeDelayedGamer I couldn't disagree more. Movies and TV-Shows with good actors and directors can be way more immersive than video games. There is only so much realism video games can offer. All the subtleties of human behaviour are lost in video games.
@judgmentarrows If Sony play their cards right and launch it with some remakes of beloved franchises or even new games (like Monster Hunter), I can totally see it being successful in Japan. But they need to get the launch right. If they don't, even if it gets better, it will be ignored, especially in Japan.
@nicc83 because it's not. Whether we like it or not, they won't lose money on each console sold. So they'll either directly increase the price or sell it at the same price but offer less. For some people less storage is a dealbreaker. For others, it's not.
So, my question remains, would you rather they increased the price instead?
@Godot25 it's impossible to know without concrete numbers. For example, this generation xbox performed worse than the last. So at least some people moved to ps5/switch or even PC. Digital library is one of the main reasons I won't be leaving Sony unless something major happens, but not everyone is the same.
So, I still think exclusives are important. Some more than others.
Really nice to see. Good games deserve to perform well. And games with a multiplayer focus need to be released simultaneously on all main platforms, if possible.
@SuperSilverback agreed. That's why I always play offline. Against other players is no fun. They memorize combos, know exactly what to press when someone does x move. It feels like chess rather than an enjoyable activity. Tekken 3 was my favourite game for many years, but alas.
@Northern_munkey out of curiosity, did you try Soulstone Survivors? I'm not sure if he discussed this before. But I do remember your recommendation of Maniac.
@SuntannedDuck2 yup. Also, eyetoy comes to mind. It wasn’t particularly successful, but it came before wii/kinect/move. And perhaps eyetoy took inspiration from something else. To me, it doesn’t matter. As long as the end result is good or even better than the original, I’m all for it.

All I know is that I haven't bought or played any of them. I'm waiting for the complete collection to come out.

@PuppetMaster facts don't matter to them. They've already made up their mind so they're only interested in confirming their bias. Simple as that.

@AhmadSumadi it's not, but some people love false equivalencies because they can't grasp nuance.

@Godot25 but we've had plenty of people here saying ps5 was their first ps console. These moves don't reveal the whole story.

@Jrs1 many of those who are considered "innovators" didn't actually innovate. They made something that already existed much more popular.
Re: Rumour: PS6 Handheld Device Can Be Docked Like Nintendo Switch 2
@Jrs1 not for everyone, obviously, plus Nintendo has been so successful with the Switch that there is clearly a large enough audience for it.
Re: Rumour: PS6 Handheld Device Can Be Docked Like Nintendo Switch 2
@LuDaurre yes, if we ignore hundreds of games, absolutely. Only GaaS.
Re: Rumour: PS6 Handheld Device Can Be Docked Like Nintendo Switch 2
Please be true. I'll take any ps handheld at this point. Psportal is good, but it doesn't always work and it can be frustrating
