Having played Uncharted for the first time via the remastered releases, Uncharted 2 is definitely many leaps better than the first game, which is fun but the gameplay not as refined. Almost done with U2 and will play through U3 before starting U4.
I think in the long run Nintendo delaying the NX to spring 2017 is a better move to avoid getting lost in sea of new products coming down the pipeline in late 2016. If NX did release this Christmas, I would've opted for it over the PSVR.
Expecting a second child in late 2016 as well, so I could only pick one! .
@thedevilsjester That would be great if Sony could use retailer partners to allow for some official trade-in. If they're going to do something as bold as release a new console and PSVR, at least offer something like that program. Otherwise, to push a new console and PSVR at same time without some financial incentives is going to cause consumer fatigue in the marketplace (and most consumers will be able to just pick one or the other).
Then again, knowing Sony's history, they could easily botch this and all the goodwill they've established since the PS4 announcement could go out the window...
I'm not totally sold on VR tech yet due to cost of entry and requirements, but I decided to pre-order a PSVR anyway since it is the "cheapest" entry point to home VR.
I don't mind upgrading to a half-step console (as I traded in my original 3DS XL for a New 3DS XL), so if Sony can offer a way for existing owners to upgrade (via trade-in promotions), I'd be all for it - well, almost, depending if the NX does get released around the same time .
That E3 2013 demo was awesome, but fast-forward to 2016 and the game looks like an RPG re-skin of Watch Dogs, especially in the graphics and art design department.
As a kid, I loved both gaming magazines and strategy guides (mainly for RPGs). I would collect them and stuffed them in my closet until I had to get rid of them before moving out for college. Strategy guides were a big help for me, especially when I didn't have friends who played video games nor have gaming friends who would play the same games as I did...
Nowadays, I like the sense of discovery and don't use strategy guides. The last one I picked was for Hyrule Warriors for Wii U but only because of the artwork. However, if I do need assistance with a game I'll consult the Interwebs.
I played about an hour of the beta (offline survival and Walker Assault, didn't try Drop Zone) and like many I have mixed feelings about it. I was initially enjoying the survival mode, but probably only because I was geeking out over the presentation. But when I actually began playing MP, I began to see the flaws (confusing/overly large map, weird/random spawns where I'm suddenly within firing range of the opposing AT-ST, lack of balance). Also I found it a bit funny that my Level 1 caliber gun has near-sniper range when using the scope (just get sight someone's head from near the horizon and you can still kill them).
Granted, some of these could be fixed with patches, but the fun factor seems lacking to me. Looking beyond the franchise license and I'm having trouble finding a great game here.
With my experience with Splatoon and then Halo 5 coming out a month before, I'm finding it a bit hard to justify getting the game at launch.
The game should've been released sometime after Episode VII - would've been great to have a campaign mode based off the movie (and to avoid spoilers since most people playing would've likely seen the movie first).
@Utena-mobile The PS3 store UI is hopeless. At least the web store makes it easy to queue up downloads to the PS3 and it works very well (especially when you scheduled your PS3 to wake up for updates and queued downloads).
I just picked up an Xbox One, so its "Modern UI" is fresh in my mind. I haven't looked at the Windows 10-based UI changes yet.
@get2sammyb I also thought your post meant the browser-version had the design facelift as well. I checked it and it didn't. It could use both a performance boost and design makeover .
And...the PS4 store looks awfully like the Xbox One interface...
@get2sammyb Sorry, I meant the browser version (using Chrome). I actually prefer to buy stuff using the web interface. Browsing natively via the PS4 has good performance. But I like using keyboard and mouse .
I suppose when he talks about "DLC," he means little bits of free content such as an extra quest, costumes, items, etc. Whereas other companies will impose a microtransaction for similar items. This differentiates from "expansions" that actually require much more work to be done to expand the playable hours of a game.
Being in the US, I'm hoping it does reach us in 2015, but there hasn't been much shown since earlier this year so unless TGS has as big splash, I don't see it being released by end of year for the US (maybe Japan). As much as I enjoy Persona 4 and the whole universe/franchise, after P4D, I'm ready to move on from the setting/characters.
@Utena-mobile This should have native PSTV support, so you don't need a Vita to play. I picked up a PSTV for $40 and for that price it's a decent deal. For playing Persona 4 on a bigger screen and doing 60FPS Remote Play, it works well overall. However, it feels like a piece of rushed tech; Sony simply shoehorned the Vita interface that looks plain weird on a TV screen.
Regarding the P4D, one of my most anticipated games of this year, across all systems. Never thought I'd say that for a rhythm game.
I'm married, but second place to my real waifu, I'd pick Yukiko .
It will be expensive, at least $350 or more if they want to sell a quality product with some room for profit (or just break even or take a small loss to promote adoption). However, I think it'll be mainly within the realm of early adopters and tech geeks. I don't expect mass adoption of VR until at least another generation or so (5-10 years). My co-worker had an Oculus (dev model) and it required at least a GTX 970 to even have a good experience with it (playing Eurotruck Simulator 2). Considering the far weaker GPU of the PS4, the experience will be lacking (unless the unit itself will have some "helper hardware" to support the PS4 GPU).
For the most part, I use my Wii U and PS4 for console-exclusives (the PS4 being the lesser in terms of first-party content, which will change by next year). I used to be an Xbox guy, but I like Sony more because they're more likely to get more Japanese support (for example, you're not going to get "Persona" games on Microsoft platforms anytime soon...).
For multi-platform games, I'm for PC/Steam (can't beat those sales).
Owning and having played ZombiU, it's a decent game at its core made better by the Gamepad mechanics. It's a truly scary game, at least for me. It's definitely worth playing.
Not sure if it'll effectively translate those mechanics to non-second-screen platforms, but I'm willing to give this another whirl. Will likely pick up the PC version (as my PS4 is mainly used for console-exclusive titles).
2016 will definitely be PS4's breakout year. I'm hoping Persona 5 hits NA in December, but I doubt it'll be ready by then, especially with the lack of coverage this past E3.
@themcnoisy Hmm, I think Tomb Raider for PS3 did hit PS+, at least in the US (not sure about in your region). Although, based on the games you mentioned, you probably don't have a PS3 at the moment - or conveniently in storage .
@themcnoisy I played TR2 back on PSone and didn't enjoy it at all. But I do enjoy the reboot version more than the classic TR games. It's worth giving the reboot a try, especially when it's so cheap to get a copy.
Would be nice to have a physical release as I'm about close to filling up my 64GB card. This and P4D in back to back months is a nice consolation for an otherwise dry year outside of indies and cross-buys.
I'm both a 3DS and Vita owner and I play both systems fairly equally during my commutes home from work. Sony marketed poorly and over-engineered the system with way too many features, but it's great for what it does. I play my 3DS for original games designed for the system. The Vita doesn't have as much great original content, but I certainly enjoy the cross-buy and cross-save features of many games - a great way to play some console games on-the-go (like Final Fantasy X).
However, perhaps the last retail Vita game I'll buy is Persona 4: Dancing All Night (unless there's some JRPG released by Xseed or NISAmerica after the fact that captures my attention).
Perhaps the alternative to DLC is introduce variable pricing again for games up-front. Instead of the standard 59.99, charge a higher up-front price (old enough to remember buying a "Chrono Trigger" for $70 on SNES, higher than the typical cart). Not sure if that'll fly with the typical consumer used to seeing $60. Personally I wouldn't mind paying the up-front costs if it means getting "free" updates and content post-release.
Truly a fun game. I got it when it was on sale (and thankfully I did since the game seems to have gone back up in price after the latest updates). Nice to play a realistic racer in between sessions of Mario Kart 8 and Sonic Racing Transformed .
My primary portable is my 3DS (as I'm mainly a Nintendo guy), but the Vita does have enough solid games in its library as is, but the problem is that Sony has been too wishy-washy about its overall support (outside Japan) moving forward. Two major games I am looking forward this year is RE:Revelations 2 and P4: Dancing All Night. Personally, I'd be fine with these two this year, but without a steady number of big releases through the year it'll just perpetuate the perception that it "doesn't have games."
I played the original on Vita and the first Vita game I actually completed . While I felt it drags a bit toward the end, it's a charming game and worth a play through. I hope the PS4 version has a low retail price, akin to what Nintendo did with "Captain Toad."

Nice! Looks like I'll import it. Much prefer remote play over my Vita than on the PSTV, but sometimes the button layout is a guessing game...

That's the kind of cover you see when you dig through the Walmart bargain bin with copies of every Pauly Shore movie.

Re: The PlayStation Store Seems to Be Getting a Wishlist
@get2sammyb For once, Nintendo ahead of the competition for something online related! .
I don't see the wishlist feature live on the US store. Probably will get pushed later today.
Re: The PlayStation Store Seems to Be Getting a Wishlist
About time. But ironically Nintendo is ahead of this game because the eShop has had a wishlist feature for the longest time.
Heck, I don't think even the Xbox store has a wishlist function. Instead I have to "pin" to dashboard the stuff I want to buy later...
