While mostly waiting for Hellblade 2 I´ve been playing a few different games, including

Destiny 2 - Finished the Lightfall campaign, wich felt really short and kind of mediocre but otherwise cool setting. But, it builds up nice for the Final Shape and when Iåve played that I´m done with Destiny for a long while. Even if I´ve ejoyed playing the campaign and PVP and even Gambit is fun I just dont find it in me to do all the other things the game wants me to do. Even the raids, which back in the day where a highlight, feels like climbing Everest and I really dont want to.

Little kitty, big city - Played it for about half an hour. Its not my kind of game but my daughter will hopefully want to play it with me so I´ll get back to it later in the summer. Seems like a nice game to play with the family.

Immortals of Aveum - Just wanted to give this game a shout, my son started playing it and he likes it and I really liked it so give it a try. Its better than it got credit for

Also looking forward to The Settlers to drop on PS plus, loved the originals back in the day so hopefully this can spark some of that sweet nostalgia. I remember some nights when I was playing while in high school and I would forget all about the clock and stayed up way to late having a blast, or when I left the computer on over night just so they could gather resources while I was sleeping because I probably hadnt built my settlement very effectively and it took forever to get the materials I needed. Sweet memories

I´m on a trip this week, but got a Playstation Portal off Ebay for like 20% less than retail last week (good enough) so I´ve managed to get some gaming done. So this week includes a minireview of the Portal as well 😊

Playstation Portal - I gotta say I´m pretty impressed with it, even if it only is a streaming device. It feels great to hold, and the screen is big, bright and good enough. My PS5 is wired to a 1 GB/s net at home, which is probably a big factor to why it works so well. I´ve tried connecting the portal to a 100 MB/s network, which works great as well as using a 5g phone with good signal. Only minor lag and occasional hickups. With a 4G phone it still works but with more lag and image distortions happen more frequently, some games work well regardless but fast paced games and FPS are going to suffer a bit. All in all, I´m very happy with the Portal and I´m going to use it pretty often. Even at home, when all the TVs are occupied 😊 Being on the same 1 GB network as the PS5 means very minor issues that I´ve noticed, meaning competetive FPS is not a good idea if you dont want to get wrecked 😅

Destiny 2 Lightfall - As I used to play Destiny 1 & 2 a lot (scary to think of how many hours its been over the years) I want to see the end of the Light and the Darkness story so its great that Lightfall is now on PS Plus as I dont want to give Bungie more money or start playing D2 again outside of the campaign. I´m some missions in, playing on the Portal 😊, and its ok but not anything special. I guess it builds nicely towards The Final Shape though. However, being a lapsed player, ***** me its hard to get going. ***** is thrown at you from all sides like go here, play this, do this and it mixes old and new story parts so its really confusing. Cant imagine being a totally new player to Destiny, with all the cut content on top that makes it even harder to follow the story in the right timeline. Anyhow, once Im done with Lightfall I might wait for The Final Shape to be on plus before jumping in or I might get it at release to sort of be done with it 😊

A little less game time than normal this week but I’ve manager some hours at least 🙂

Immortals of Aveum - I’ve finished the story, which all things considered (including characters and such) was pretty decent. The world, gameplay, presentation and exploration are all very good imo. I’ve got two trophies left for the Platinum, which is also a very fun one. So all in all I really like the game, around 8,5/10 and would recommend anyone with PS Plus to try it out at least. Its probably not for anyone. Hope it hits GamePass soon as well.

Synapse VR - I’ve reached the end of the story, think Im gonna go for the platinum as the gameplay is very fun.

Suicide Squad - I had to play the trial. Its not very good. Might work with friends but solo? Nah

Robocop - I've finished and platinumed it. Really good game, old school fun and great humor. Can really recommend it!

Synapse - The gameplay in this game is really fun and addicting, and as you play you unlock some cool abilities that makes it even more fun. Like being able to use kinetic powers to grab and smash enemies There are also generous save point making it easy to play in shorter bursts as well as longer sessions, I tend to play shorter sessions when playing in VR.

Immortals of Aveum - Started this after finishing Robocop and I have to say I'm surprised at how much I enjoy it given the mixed reviews. The first two hours are really good imo, it might get repetetive and tedious and boring after a while but after rereading the review here on EG I dont really agree with some of the negative points, at least not yet. Interesting to see how I feel about the game in 10 hours more but right now I'm looking forward to playing more

Dave the Diver - I've played a bit, and can see the appeal so I'll play more but I dont think it'll be my GOTY. But its a nice game to play in between other games

Miasma Chronicles - I liked their previous game Mutant Year Zero and this game is very similar in gameplay but I feel like the setting and story in Mutant was better but I havent played for that long so it might change. Another game Im playing a short while here and there.

Harold Halibut - looks absolutely amazing but plays slow and boring as hell sadly... might give it some more time though, it might grow on me

Since last week

The Expanse - finished the game. It started pretty good but the last third of the game before the end wasnt quite as good as the story slowed down and the environments werent as fun. Overall though I enjoyed it!

Robocop - Im really enjoying this game. Its good, old school fun AA gaming at its best with pretty funny dialog and characters.

Synapse PSVR 2 - The game is really good and super fun and VR makes all the difference as Im not usually in to roguelikes, but the gameplay and mechanics are great!

FF 7 Rebirth - I’ve finished the game. Simply awesome! Dont know what to add to all the positive things already said but its high on my list of favorite games 🤩

Brothers A tale of two sons remake - a favorite game of mine, had to take the opportunity to play it again. Still very good, and still very emotional 🥲

The Expanse - About half way and enjoying it a lot more than I had hoped. Looking forward to continuing the story over the weekend!

I also got Robocop lined up, picked it up in the sale, I think Im going to enjoy this game a lot.

Happy gaming y’all!

FF 7 Rebirth - just finished the game, and what a game it is! So much fun to play, great story, goofy and silly at times but powerful and emotional at times. Perfect combo. And what a world they’ve created to explore and some fun minigames and QB. This game is high on my all time favorites now and does so many things better than Remake. Simply awesome!

Stellan Blade demo - very impressed, this is going to be a good one!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 519

TLOU - finished part 2 earlier in the week. Such fantastic games! I appreciated the story in part 2 more this time around than the first, guess the beginning was less of a shock and I could enjoy the different aspects of the story more. Could write a lot but it would be very spoiler heavy. Simply wonderful games, true masterpieces imo!

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - I’ve only played a few hours but it was love at first sight. So great to play a version of a game I played and loved all those years ago, where nostalgia kind of affects the new game but at the same time its different enough that it feels like a new experience. This is going to be awesome!

Happy gaming y’all!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 518

TLOU - Im now about halfway through part 2. These games are just so ***** good imo. Not perfect in every aspect but damn near. Going through it all again is both awesome and emotionally draining and Im just so impressed with games that makes me feel this much.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - finished it, as I’ve said before I love it but not the needlessly difficult parts that only gets annoying.

I had planned to start playing FF 7 Rebirth day 1 but given that the game needs a patch or two Im going to wait for a couple of weeks before diving in but its kind of hard as Im really, really looking forward to it 😅

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 517

mac_da_man

Since last week I´ve narrowed it down to mainly two games, the plan is to finish TLOU part 1 and 2 and Ori and then dive into FF 7 rebirth 😊

TLOU – I’m about half way through part 1 and damn, its so good. Its a really well made remake, looks and plays great, the acting is very good and the story is just superb imo. The emotions the game makes me feel, the pieces of stories or things that happened that you pick up from notes left, bodies scattered, a childs grave… just amazing in a heartwrenching way. And this is the fourth time I play it!

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - still going slowly with this game. And same as last week, love everything about it except that is a bit difficult at times in a way that doesnt add anything but frustration imo

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 516

mac_da_man

Arizona Sunshine 2 VR - finished the story. Had a really fun time with this game, so satisfying to pop zombie heads with the guns, or better yet use a machete

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - going slowly with this game. Love everything about it, except maybe that is a bit difficult at times in a way that doesnt add anything but frustration imo.

TLOU - So its finally time to replay the TLOU games. It´ll be the forth time playing part 1 from start to finish but only my second time playing part 2, which I havent touched since I platinumed it at release. Really looking forward to both games, they are so, so good imo. I started with Left Behind this time, and even if I know what happens it still gets to me. Going to be such an emotional ride this but an awesome one as well.

Ven VR adventure - Picked this up in the sale. Its pretty fun, well worth a look!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 515

I´ve finished a couple of games since last week

Final fantasy 16 - Its done, I´ve played through new game + and the platinum trophy is mine 😊 Imo an amazing game, best final fantasy since FF 7 for me and its nice to see the series return to such heights after the good but not great FF games in between. FF 7 Remake was to drawn out and unnessecarily padded which drags it down compared to the original imo. FF 7 Rebirth has some serious potential though, really looking forward to that 😊

Hot wheels 2 - Also done and platinumed. Enjoyed it for what is was, more of the same as the first game. Easier platinum though, thats something as least 😊

Ori and the Blind Forest - Also finished. Love the game, such a great atmosphere and soundtrack and a nice story too.

Currently playing

Arizona Sunshine 2 VR - Im having a blast with this one. Really fun to play, the dog companion is awesome and the guns and melee weapons are great.

Ori and the Will of the Wisp - I was thinking of playing Resi 2 but felt I really wanted to go on with more Ori. Love this game as well, played it on the Switch the first time but now Im playing on the xbox.

Skull and Bones - Yeah, tried the open beta. Not impressed. Let it sink quickly and move on Ubi.

Re: Poll: Which Xbox Franchises Would You Buy on PS5?

mac_da_man

I would consider buying games I played on Playstation first but are now presumably Xbox exclusive like Hellblade or Elder Scrolls just to keep them in the same ecosystem and also get that Platinum trophy but I also have an Xbox so theres no need for me to buy anything. If I didnt have an Xbox then halo, Gears of War, Fable and Awowed would be games I would buy in a deep sale!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 514

mac_da_man

Almost the same games as the last couple of weeks

FF 16 - nearing the end of my ng+ playthrough. Final Fantasy difficulty isnt that hard thankfully, just makes the fights take longer. Playing the main story and focusing on that makes a great game even better imo

Vertigo 2 - So I’ve hit a gamebreaking bug where the game doesnt let me continue meaning I would have to replay the last chapter and hope I dont run on to the same bug, ***** that though, I’ll wait for a patch or five and return to the game then. Shame, its a fun game but some bugs are a pain.

Arizona Sunshine 2 - picked this up in the sale to play instead of Vertigo 2. I’ve played about an hour so far and its really fun, lots of humor and satisfying gameplay. So awesome to whack a zombie in the head with a machete and having to rip it loose after, or dualwield pistols when there are lots fin zombie brains to splatter.

Ori and the blind forest - Felt the need to play something on my series S, so Im replying this awesome game. Love it!

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - enjoying it despite it being pretty much more of the same from the first game. I only play short sessions which I think helps a lot, it would get very repetetive very quickly otherwise.

Final Fantasy 16 - So I´ve finished the story and all the side missions and all that. What a great game. The story got me good. So good in fact I decided to jump straight to ng+ and I´m really enjoying it a lot the second time, just focusing on the best parts of the game. My second favorite FF game after the original FF 7 but guessing the FF7 remakes might change that especially given how good rebirth looks

Vertigo 2 - I´ve been playing this more since last week. Its a fun, goofy, silly game and its very impressive for a one man job. Its a bit buggy though still so even if I have a lot of fun with it I would recommend waiting for some patches and maybe a sale.

Epic Roller Coasters VR - So I found a free to play roller coaster game for VR, you get some tracks to play but have to pay for most of them. Sweet ***** god you´ll get motion sickness from this game. I´m not sensitive at all but barely managed a ride without vomiting so you´ve all been warned

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Director Says Travel Isn't Boring, Your Game Is

mac_da_man

The obvious but boring answer is of course to give me the choice between traveling and exploring your world or a good fast travel mechanic if Im not in the mood for it. Games like Skyrim or Avatar are an absolute joy to explore but that doesnt mean I always want to go on foot/horse/whatever from one end of the map to the other when I have to.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 512

Final Fantasy 16 - Still mainly playing this amazing game. I havent been this hooked on a FF game since the original FF 7! Close to the end of the story, but dragging it on a bit by doing the not so great side missions etc. Might as well go for the platinum trophy down the line, just cause its such a good game imo.

TLOU 2 - got the upgrade and tried it out just to see how it plays and it feels and looks really great, but it then already did that. Still, perfect excuse to play it again, but not yet. Will play the part 1 remake first 🙂

Vertigo 2 VR - havent really played it since Im all in on FF 16 but I tried it for maybe half an hour and it seems really fun so I'll go all in on this next.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 511

Final Fantasy XVI the journey continues. Im really enjoying it and I really like the story. The game is a bit unevenly paced though, the epic parts followed by slow parts with pretty uninteresting quests maybe could have been done better. And the sidequests are not the highlights of the game…. It really looks great this game, both artistically and technically very impressive. Great game all in all, cant wait to play more and find out where the story goes.

Hot Wheels 2 needed a game in between when not able to play for very long and Hot Wheels 2 fits in perfect. Is basically more of the same, so if you liked the first game you’ll like this one but dont expect much more than that.

I’ve put Prince of Persia on the to-play list, liked the demo thats out. Also might pick up Vertigo 2 for VR as a game in between sessions of FF 16

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 510

Avatar - Frontiers of Pandora - I’ve finished and platinumed the game. Such a rich and beautiful world, I’ll be returning to it now and then to just enjoy it. As for story, that was ok but nothing special. The platinum required the usual ubi collectibles but it wasnt too bad. All in all I really enjoyed the game 🙂

Elden Ring I’ve finally played it, got it for the son as a christmas present 😁 after two-three hours I concluded that while more to my liking than previous Souls-games its not for me. The kid loves it though, and I’ve watched him play a lot. He and some of his friends play and help each other and are having a blast so thats awesome. I can totally see the quality and greatness of the game, so well deserved top spots last year.

Final Fantasy XVI A game I’ve been looking forward to and damn, it starts off super strong. Such epic fights and some great cutscenes, good and engaging story so far and it looks really good. Cant wait to play more 😀

Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Baldur's Gate 3

mac_da_man

Thanks for the entertaining comments 😂 if Starfield is nr 1 over on PureXbox you know Spider-Man 2 has to be nr 1 here. We need balance in the universe 😂

I havent played BG 3 yet for more than an hour of the trial but that was very good so looking forward to playing it sooner or later!

Avatar - Frontiers of Pandora - Im really enjoying the game. Like a lot. Its not perfect, but the world they've created is so amazing and so fun and magical to explore it makes up for a few shortcomings regarding some quests and other minor things imo 🙂

On the Series S I've been enjoying some short sessions of Dying Light, which I picked up in the sale for the son. Still a great game, he loves it too so Im hoping for some co-op sessions over christmas 😀

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 507

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora – since last week I´ve mainly been playing Avatar and I must say I really like it. First off, it looks amazing. There have been some jaw dropping wow moments so far, like the first time you exit the tunnel and step out in the jungle, the first time its night (memerizing), first time getting on your Ikran… its just a very good looking game and running through the dense jungle makes for great immersion imo. As far as the gameplay goes, hunting, fishing and gathering fruits and resources feels like a natural part of the life on Pandora where as in the Far Cry games it can feel a little wierd and out of place and plastered on. Its also cool imo that the pollution and damage the facilities and factories does to the nature is very obvious and it feels really good to blow them up and see the jungle return to normal. The gun/bowplay could be a little bit sharper but its ok. The story is also ok, but the star of the game imo is Pandora itself. Cant wait to play more 😊
