Since last week

Star Wars Outlaws - finished and platinumed, really enjoyed this game. Sure, it has its flaws but on the whole I found it to be a great game. The Star Wars feeling is top notch. Would love a sequel but that’s not likely to happen sadly.

Stellar Blade - Did a new game + playthrough for the platinum, focusing only on the main missions. What an awesome game this is, love it!

Astro Bot - just finished the third world, or galaxy, or whatever, taking my sweet time and enjoying every second of it. Such an amazing game, my all time favorite 3d platformer and I haven’t even finished it yet 😊

Road 96 - Wanted to try this given the Life is Strange vibes I got from it, and even if its imo far from LiS level good so far the game has that something that’s got me wanting more.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 547

Pretty much the same as last week

Star Wars Outlaws - still really enjoying this game. I think Im getting close to the end of the story so Im gonna mop up some trophies and get that platinum as well 🙂

Astro Bot - Amazing! The game just has fantastic level after fantastic level! Love it 🤩

The Plucky Squire - had to try it for a bit, seems very good but it’ll have to wait. Need to finish the games above first 🙂

Star Wars Outlaws - really enjoying this game, flaws and all. Love exploring, doing side content, space battles and of course Sabacc. The Star Wars feeling is great, to bad there are some bad gamedesign choices, dumb AI etc otherwise it would be a better overall experience but its still a solid 8/10 for me.

Astro Bot - simply amazing! Taking my time with it, dont want it to end!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 545

mac_da_man

A couple of games started and/or tried since last week 🙂

Astro Bot - Holy hell this is going to be an awesome game, I’ve had a big smile on my face every second I’ve been playing 🤩 Its like a dream combo of Sackboy and Mario but better! Amazing!

Star Wars Outlaws - I was really on the fence about this game but after reading a lot of reviews and watching some videos I decide to get it and I must say Im really enjoying it and having a lot of fun. The Star Wars feeling is great, love running around different settlements and cities, cantinas etc and taking it all in. Nixx is a nice companion, I like that hes more than a cute dog/cat thing but is also useful when playing and solving some of the puzzles or how to open doors etc. Exloration is pretty standard but fun and rewarding, especially in space. The game also looks great imo. The gameplay however feels dated and like a big step backwards in many regards. Shooting isnt great, neither is stealth, AI is pretty stupid and has to be cause otherwise stealth would always fail, spacebattles feels good though and the story and missions are good enough. The cardgame Sabacc is great fun!

All in all I would probably give it a strong 7/10 or a weak 8/10 and can recommend it if you like these kind of games.

Harry Potter - Quidditch - a bit meh. Dont see myself spending too much time with this game. Maybe should have been a part of Hogwarts Legacy instead.

Space Trucker - Wanted a relaxing game but this isnt quite scratching that itch for me. Still, might make a delivery every now and then.

Stellar Blade - I´ve just finished my first playthrough, loved it in the end. Great game - good story and looks and plays very good. Love the art design of the world and the soundtrack, Sure Eves costumes are a bit cringe but I can live with that. Very much looking forward to a new game + playthrough but I think I will save that and play some other game first and also Astro Bot is just a few days away now 😊

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 543

mac_da_man

Stellar Blade - Im just really, really enjoying this game and and its growing on me the more I play it, just great imo. I think I´m somewhere around two thirds in, maybe less. I like the variation of the different places and that there are new enemy types introduced at each place as well, and that you also get new abilities or attacks that keep things fresh!

TimeSplitters - Took a trip down memory lane, which was very nice. Read that trophies are coming for all three games, so going to wait for that before playing more. Nostalgia plays a big part for me here, will se how the games hold up once that fades a bit.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 542

mac_da_man

I've been focusing on Stellar Blade and I really, really enjoy this game. Looks and plays great, the story is good enough to keep me interested, love the soundtrack and some side missions are good. Think Im about one third in, doing everything. The game isnt perfect, but very fun so I can overlook some things... my only complaint is that there are too many ***** collectibles, and thats just because I want the Platinum trophy 😅

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 541

mac_da_man

Since last week I’ve mainly played:

Nobody wants to die - Really enjoyed this game! Its a bit slow at times perhaps but its a good story, great setting and pretty good puzzles/clues to solve. Its also pretty short so I’ve managed to finish and platinum it in about 5-6 hours. If you like these kinds of games I can really recommend it 🙂

Next up is Stellar Blade 🙂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 540

mac_da_man

I’ve not been in the mood for gaming much this last week! I’ve been watching the Olympics, some series, read a book etc. I picked up Nobody wants to die and tried it for 30 min or so and it seems great so I’ll dig into it properly soon. Also finished the campaign in The First Descendant so I’m now done with that game. Enjoyed it a lot more than I initially thought I would and it was fun playing with others in co-op. Still not really a good game 😅

After I finish Nobody wants to die I think its high time to play Stellar Blade 🙂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 539

mac_da_man

After finishing Rise of the Ronin I felt I needed a bit of a break before playing the next "big" game which I think will be Stellar Blade but No one wants to die might slip in between. Will decide today or tomorrow 🙂 Anyways, I've been playing:

The first Descendant and Asphalt Legends Unite - both free to play, not the best games ever but suites my gaming mood for now.

Dungeons of Hinterberg - I've played for about an hour but its not what I hoped it would be. Might give it some more time but will likely drop it.

CoD MW 3 campaign - So yeah, MS finally drops a CoD on gp and its the worst game in the series 😒 The opening mission in the campaign is pretty good, its CoD as it should be, but then the open world missions that follows are not good at all and not what I want from a CoD game. Such a shame, would have been better to not have a campaign than this ***** imo. And ffs MS, release the older CoDs on gp already!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 538

mac_da_man

Rise of the Ronin - Finished and platinumed. First off, I had fun playing it the whole way through. However, I really do feel it was a bit too long and bloated and I think a shorter game would have had a better focus to the story and the side/bond missions could have been a lot fewer. Also, I could be best mate with someone, end up fighting him in a story mission and then after it was back to best mate again as if nothing happened. Would be normal maybe if we were piss drunk and had a brawl in the pub and didnt remember it the next day but yeah, made choices and bonds a bit wierd in the game. All in all I enjoyed the game a lot!

The First Descendant - yeah, Im still playing. Its grown on me a bit 😂 but its still not very good...

Asphalt Legends Unite - Im just a sucker for free to play games right now. This is pretty fun mindless arcade racing if you can ignore all the ***** around the racing itself.

Neon White - played for a little bit. The courses are really fun and addicting to play and try and master but the rest Im just not paying any attention to.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 537

Rise of the Ronin - So I´ve finally petted all the f-n cats 😅 I have some missions left and some cleaning up for the platinum, so I´ll probably give my final thoughts next week. Still fun to play, but the game is a bit too long and bloated imo. I´m normally immune to open world fatigue and long games, but this one is pushing me a bit. Still, breaking it up with other games helps 😊

Still wakes the deep - Finished it last weekend. Really enjoyed it, especially the voice acting which was top notch. The story was good but a bit predictable, the performance on my series S wasn’t great but still, very good game!

The First Descendant - This game really isn’t very good, but it has that little something that makes me keep playing it 🙂 Missions are very repetitive, but that means I can turn my brain off and just cruise around for some shooting and looting. There is a story, it looks decent, and gameplay is ok. Its really a mixed bag of games you´ve played before, but not necessarily better than any of them. So, again, not very good but pretty fun to play when I´m in that mood and its free. Just don’t blame me if you try it and hate it, I´ve warned you twice now its not very good 🫣😅

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 535

mac_da_man

Bit of a boring update for me this week as Im still playing the same games as last week, mainly due to Rise of the Ronin being a big and long game and also cause we’re at our summer place and I left the Series S at home so only playing on it when we go back to water the plants etc but I’ve got my ps5 and ps portal with me which is an awesome combo out here and works great with both machines connected with the same phone using 5g. Anyways, here goes

Rise of the Ronin - still going strong, still petting a lot of cats. Gotta catch em all 😅 Im almost immune to open world fatigue but I have a feeling this game will push me a bit. Still, gameplay is very fun so I’ll probably end up with the platinum in the end.

Still wakes the deep - I managed like an hour earlier in the week, really like this game. Expect I’ll be able to finish it the next time I’m able to play as its s short but imo a very good game.

Tales of Kenzera- Zau - Playing this as a great way to break up RotR, but means shorter sessions and not so much progress. Still fun 🙂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 534

First days of summer vacation, so awesome 😎

Rise of the Ronin - its very fun to play this game regardless of its flaws. Im going bonkers clearing the map for collectibles while trying to keep focus on the main missions as well, but its just so satisfying clearing each area 😅 Switched to japanese as well which is so much better!

Still wakes the deep - Havent played very much yet but really like it so far. Great scottish dialects and good voice acting, very good atmosphere in the game as well and it looks good but performance is not very good on the Series S. Still, looking forward to playing more!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 533

mac_da_man

I’ve played a little less than usual due to some great weather here but here goes 😎

Destiny 2 the Final Shape - Bungie did it! The Final Shape was a great ending to the Light and the Darkness saga, the campaign was good with a lot of nostalgia thrown in and it ended in a very satisfying way imo. I did get to finish Destiny on a high note as I hoped for with some new great memories and as planned I´m dropping it now even if is kind of hard as I´ve had a lot of fun but I know it will eventually outstay its welcome for me (and I don’t want to put all my gaming time on Destiny). That said, over the years Destiny has truly given me some of the greatest gaming moments of my life (like clearing Vault of Glass the first time or going flawless and reaching the Lighthouse etc) and some clan friends that keep in touch even after we´ve stopped playing Destiny. Would I return for Destiny 3? Maybe… 😊

Ghostbusters VR - Nice to get this on Plus, haven’t play much but seems decent enough so I´ll play more 😊

Rise of the Ronin - Picked it up in the sale, was planning on buying Stellar Blade but I´ve had this on my wishlist for a while. Its very fun to play a few hours in, but god its ugly. Looks like a ps3 game sometimes which can be a bit distracting. However, graphics isn’t everything which this game proves pretty good. Doesnt hold a candle to Ghost of Tsushima though imo. But anyway, fun game and I might even go for the platinum. Thankfully I seem immune to open world/Ubi filler fatigue so I´ll be petting a lot of cats… 😊

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 532

mac_da_man

Viewfinder - finished and platinumed. Very good puzzle game, pretty unique and if you like these kind of games I can really recommend it!

Destiny 2 The Final Shape - rocky launch as expected, but didnt even try to play at release given the history of previous releases 😊 That said, Im enjoying the Final Shape. They´ve brought back a lot of things for this, maps, locations, characters, guns that never should have been limited by power levels etc. Some very nostalgic moments so far, guessing more are to come as I havent finished the campaign yet. But I have a good feeling about this, that it might actually be a good ending to the Light and the Darkness saga. Still, I´m going to put Destiny 2 down when I´m done regardless of how fun it feels now. Dont want to be sucked in again, I can already feel it tugging at me, wanting all my playtime and Id rather end on a high note than playing until the inevitable wall of total fatigue and weariness hits.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 531

Hellblade 2 - finished the game, really enjoyed it even if some parts were a bit weak perhaps. Looks absolutely gorgeous, sound is top notch and I liked the story even if it wasnt as good as in the first game imo. Basically though, you have to enjoy this type of game to find Hellblade 1&2 any good, but if you do you´re in for a treat!

Viewfinder - picked it up in the sale, been om my wishlist for a while. I´m only on level 2 but this is a fantastic puzzler imo. Really clever use of photos and perspective when solving the levels which makes it unique and very fun to play.

Tales of Kenzera – ZAU - Pretty good platformer, enjoying it and a nice break from other games.

Destiny 2 – waiting for The Final Shape, want to finish the story which I hope is really good and conclusive and then leave Destiny behind again with some sweet final memories. Meanwhile Im enjoying the PVP a lot more than I thought, especially Trials of Osiris which is great fun. Tried some raids but my GOD I dont have the patience nor time for that ***** anymore. That said, the gameplay is still some of the best ever, if not the best. Too bad they ***** a lot of the other stuff up.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 530

mac_da_man

Pretty busy week and some great weather here meant less gaming than usual but I still managed to play some 🙂

Hellblade 2 - Wow! Loved the first game, and this is better. The graphics and sound are simply amazing, and the overall experience 2-3 hours in is really great. Now, this game is not for everyone, just like the first one. Its a dark and grim walking sim for pretty long sections at a time so far, but damn its a good one!

Xdefiant - I said I would play a few games and I have. Its not bad, but not great either. Theres potential, and my son likes it more than me, but I feel likes theres some work to be done if Ubi wants players to stick around.

The Settlers - new allies - I played some of the tutorials and it looks the part but I didnt get that warm and cosy nostalgia I was hoping for. But it seems pretty good so I will play some more. Would be better with m&k of course but it was better than expected with a controller.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 529

mac_da_man

While mostly waiting for Hellblade 2 I´ve been playing a few different games, including

Destiny 2 - Finished the Lightfall campaign, wich felt really short and kind of mediocre but otherwise cool setting. But, it builds up nice for the Final Shape and when Iåve played that I´m done with Destiny for a long while. Even if I´ve ejoyed playing the campaign and PVP and even Gambit is fun I just dont find it in me to do all the other things the game wants me to do. Even the raids, which back in the day where a highlight, feels like climbing Everest and I really dont want to.

Little kitty, big city - Played it for about half an hour. Its not my kind of game but my daughter will hopefully want to play it with me so I´ll get back to it later in the summer. Seems like a nice game to play with the family.

Immortals of Aveum - Just wanted to give this game a shout, my son started playing it and he likes it and I really liked it so give it a try. Its better than it got credit for

Also looking forward to The Settlers to drop on PS plus, loved the originals back in the day so hopefully this can spark some of that sweet nostalgia. I remember some nights when I was playing while in high school and I would forget all about the clock and stayed up way to late having a blast, or when I left the computer on over night just so they could gather resources while I was sleeping because I probably hadnt built my settlement very effectively and it took forever to get the materials I needed. Sweet memories

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 528

mac_da_man

I´m on a trip this week, but got a Playstation Portal off Ebay for like 20% less than retail last week (good enough) so I´ve managed to get some gaming done. So this week includes a minireview of the Portal as well 😊

Playstation Portal - I gotta say I´m pretty impressed with it, even if it only is a streaming device. It feels great to hold, and the screen is big, bright and good enough. My PS5 is wired to a 1 GB/s net at home, which is probably a big factor to why it works so well. I´ve tried connecting the portal to a 100 MB/s network, which works great as well as using a 5g phone with good signal. Only minor lag and occasional hickups. With a 4G phone it still works but with more lag and image distortions happen more frequently, some games work well regardless but fast paced games and FPS are going to suffer a bit. All in all, I´m very happy with the Portal and I´m going to use it pretty often. Even at home, when all the TVs are occupied 😊 Being on the same 1 GB network as the PS5 means very minor issues that I´ve noticed, meaning competetive FPS is not a good idea if you dont want to get wrecked 😅

Destiny 2 Lightfall - As I used to play Destiny 1 & 2 a lot (scary to think of how many hours its been over the years) I want to see the end of the Light and the Darkness story so its great that Lightfall is now on PS Plus as I dont want to give Bungie more money or start playing D2 again outside of the campaign. I´m some missions in, playing on the Portal 😊, and its ok but not anything special. I guess it builds nicely towards The Final Shape though. However, being a lapsed player, ***** me its hard to get going. ***** is thrown at you from all sides like go here, play this, do this and it mixes old and new story parts so its really confusing. Cant imagine being a totally new player to Destiny, with all the cut content on top that makes it even harder to follow the story in the right timeline. Anyhow, once Im done with Lightfall I might wait for The Final Shape to be on plus before jumping in or I might get it at release to sort of be done with it 😊

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 527

mac_da_man

A little less game time than normal this week but I’ve manager some hours at least 🙂

Immortals of Aveum - I’ve finished the story, which all things considered (including characters and such) was pretty decent. The world, gameplay, presentation and exploration are all very good imo. I’ve got two trophies left for the Platinum, which is also a very fun one. So all in all I really like the game, around 8,5/10 and would recommend anyone with PS Plus to try it out at least. Its probably not for anyone. Hope it hits GamePass soon as well.

Synapse VR - I’ve reached the end of the story, think Im gonna go for the platinum as the gameplay is very fun.

Suicide Squad - I had to play the trial. Its not very good. Might work with friends but solo? Nah

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 525

mac_da_man

Robocop - I've finished and platinumed it. Really good game, old school fun and great humor. Can really recommend it!

Synapse - The gameplay in this game is really fun and addicting, and as you play you unlock some cool abilities that makes it even more fun. Like being able to use kinetic powers to grab and smash enemies There are also generous save point making it easy to play in shorter bursts as well as longer sessions, I tend to play shorter sessions when playing in VR.

Immortals of Aveum - Started this after finishing Robocop and I have to say I'm surprised at how much I enjoy it given the mixed reviews. The first two hours are really good imo, it might get repetetive and tedious and boring after a while but after rereading the review here on EG I dont really agree with some of the negative points, at least not yet. Interesting to see how I feel about the game in 10 hours more but right now I'm looking forward to playing more

Dave the Diver - I've played a bit, and can see the appeal so I'll play more but I dont think it'll be my GOTY. But its a nice game to play in between other games

Miasma Chronicles - I liked their previous game Mutant Year Zero and this game is very similar in gameplay but I feel like the setting and story in Mutant was better but I havent played for that long so it might change. Another game Im playing a short while here and there.

Harold Halibut - looks absolutely amazing but plays slow and boring as hell sadly... might give it some more time though, it might grow on me

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 524

mac_da_man

Since last week

The Expanse - finished the game. It started pretty good but the last third of the game before the end wasnt quite as good as the story slowed down and the environments werent as fun. Overall though I enjoyed it!

Robocop - Im really enjoying this game. Its good, old school fun AA gaming at its best with pretty funny dialog and characters.

Synapse PSVR 2 - The game is really good and super fun and VR makes all the difference as Im not usually in to roguelikes, but the gameplay and mechanics are great!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 523

mac_da_man

FF 7 Rebirth - I’ve finished the game. Simply awesome! Dont know what to add to all the positive things already said but its high on my list of favorite games 🤩

Brothers A tale of two sons remake - a favorite game of mine, had to take the opportunity to play it again. Still very good, and still very emotional 🥲

The Expanse - About half way and enjoying it a lot more than I had hoped. Looking forward to continuing the story over the weekend!

I also got Robocop lined up, picked it up in the sale, I think Im going to enjoy this game a lot.

Happy gaming y’all!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 522

FF 7 Rebirth - just finished the game, and what a game it is! So much fun to play, great story, goofy and silly at times but powerful and emotional at times. Perfect combo. And what a world they’ve created to explore and some fun minigames and QB. This game is high on my all time favorites now and does so many things better than Remake. Simply awesome!

Stellan Blade demo - very impressed, this is going to be a good one!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 519

mac_da_man

TLOU - finished part 2 earlier in the week. Such fantastic games! I appreciated the story in part 2 more this time around than the first, guess the beginning was less of a shock and I could enjoy the different aspects of the story more. Could write a lot but it would be very spoiler heavy. Simply wonderful games, true masterpieces imo!

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - I’ve only played a few hours but it was love at first sight. So great to play a version of a game I played and loved all those years ago, where nostalgia kind of affects the new game but at the same time its different enough that it feels like a new experience. This is going to be awesome!

Happy gaming y’all!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 518

mac_da_man

TLOU - Im now about halfway through part 2. These games are just so ***** good imo. Not perfect in every aspect but damn near. Going through it all again is both awesome and emotionally draining and Im just so impressed with games that makes me feel this much.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - finished it, as I’ve said before I love it but not the needlessly difficult parts that only gets annoying.

I had planned to start playing FF 7 Rebirth day 1 but given that the game needs a patch or two Im going to wait for a couple of weeks before diving in but its kind of hard as Im really, really looking forward to it 😅

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 517

mac_da_man

Since last week I´ve narrowed it down to mainly two games, the plan is to finish TLOU part 1 and 2 and Ori and then dive into FF 7 rebirth 😊

TLOU – I’m about half way through part 1 and damn, its so good. Its a really well made remake, looks and plays great, the acting is very good and the story is just superb imo. The emotions the game makes me feel, the pieces of stories or things that happened that you pick up from notes left, bodies scattered, a childs grave… just amazing in a heartwrenching way. And this is the fourth time I play it!

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - still going slowly with this game. And same as last week, love everything about it except that is a bit difficult at times in a way that doesnt add anything but frustration imo
