State of Decay 3 has been a long time coming, and it’s still in Early Alpha, according to this exclusive gameplay footage.
There’s no denying, however: the zombie survival game has all the ingredients required for success.
This 72-minute video, presented warts and all, shows off a ton of early footage from the game. If you like scavenging for resources, building bases, and forging your own path through an emergent world, then there’s no doubt this is for you.
The full game will feature online multiplayer, but this gameplay largely focuses on the single player experience, showing off how you can pilfer different towns for resources and must make difficult decisions, moment-to-moment, about what you’re going to prioritise.

The art really does very little for me, even in this early state. But survival games are catnip for gamers right now, and this does appear to have all the ingredients for gigantic financial success.
Officially the game’s due out in 2027, but it looks like it’s got a long way to go to me, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up launching later than that.
It’s a bit of a shame Sony never spun up a Days Gone sequel, because I could certainly have seen it edging into this kind of direction, and I think that would have been fun.
