Yes, got one after not being bothered for a while. Had a bit of a faff with the System Transfer (witnessed up my Activations) but Sony sorted that over the phone. I have a 4K TV without HDR and it's a good improvement. Shadows of Mordor, Infamous First Light and Ratchet and Clank all look great. It's quieter than my Original console and download speeds seem quicker. Aiming to try the improved Remote Play later and very tempted by Rez Infinite. Its not an earth-shattering life changer but it's a very worthwhile upgrade.
Sega went crazy in the 90s, releasing two add-ons for the Megadrive then ditching the lot for the Saturn.
I'm not sure this is the same situation, in fact this doesn't really have a comparison that springs to mind. A mid-generation refresh that maintains compatibility is a new thing.
The problem with Sega's updates was they had their own library and their own exclusives, which shouldn't happen with PS4. I'm not convinced it will be a runaway success (to aim at a niche market-4K TV owners-and leave out the 4K BluRay capability is a very odd decision) but it's going to be interesting to see what happens. If it is successful it could set a precedent
Not compared to what I've seen and every review I've read. Especially with the Atmos update incoming it's a good player and an excellent value proposition. However for your original attempt to deflect criticism from Sony (by bizarrely claiming anybody who is 'that into' 4K BluRay should buy a standalone) to work at all, you need that to be true. So carry on telling yourself that.
I have a 4K TV from 2015 with no HDR. Will the Pro make a difference? I have the XB1S and 4K Blu-rays are a clear improvement, Pro has to impress me with the games.
"Who on earth still buys 4k discs at £20 and more a shot?" People who want the best quality picture. Streaming is convenient but for a lot of people bandwidth is an issue. If you're going to pay for a big 4K TV and want to watch a film you may as well do it properly. It's a niche of course, most of the mass market will be happy with a compromise (like buying a Blu Ray player and watching DVDs on it, or the people who used to run PS2-era consoles through the bundled AV Cables) but there are people who want the best and are willing to pay for it. Seems like a real oversight for Sony to ignore these people by releasing a console specifically designed to compliment 4K TVs but that doesn't properly support 4K video.
No. I'll be getting an Xbox One S. I'm probably quite unusual in that I have some digital XB1 games I want access to (I sold my original XB1 to help pay for a couple of trips away) but I'd have reached the same conclusion anyway. I have a 4K TV so the UHD Blu-ray drive is a major factor as the best way to show it off and if I'm going to spend money on another console. I am has well get one that upscaled games I can't get on PS4 rather than games I already have.
Also, if incremental console updates is the way forward I'm more and more thinking I'll get a gaming PC in a couple of years. I'll also have a look at NX whenever Nintendo deign to let it's potential customers know what it is.
Might go for this at a decent price. My motion sickness has always made it difficult for me to play these but a smooth 60fps could give me a chance. I appreciate I have a particular set of circumstances but at least somebody is excited about another remaster.
Personally I think it's pretty underwhelming. If others are happy great but there's not a lot for me. At least it seems to have stopped people crying about Killzone for a few weeks.
The similarity to something else was the original rejection in mid-January. It has now been rejected because, rightly, 'Lets Play' has been deemed descriptive. You can see here what Sony were trying to Trademark....
Oh no, its happening again. Whichever company has the lead in this industry very quickly catches a heavy dose of corporate arrogance. Stupid from Sony and I hope losing cost them a lot of money.
Very pleased to hear this. It works great on the XB1 and has seen me using that machine a lot more than the PS4 recently. I doubt it will ever match the Wii U gamepad for Speed and consistency but its a great option.
Played it on EA Access and its dreadful. These reviews are very kind. Fifth best racing game I've played this gen, out of 5 (Mario Kart 8, Drive Club, Forza Horizon 2 and NFS Rivals are all better).
"Open world racing games are the worst". Oh how I agree with this. Loved all the Burnouts until Paradise, where instead of taking part in super fast races with spectacular crashes I was now driving. From A to B. I can do that in the real world anytime thanks very much (except I usually have a clear idea where I'm going and how to get there, unlike in Paradise/Most Wanted).
I thought I was alone in thinking this. It's a side-effect of the industry catering so keenly for teenage boys. As an adult with a job, a wife and a child I simply don't have enough gaming time to be spending hours wandering around a game looking for something to do. Too many games take a 'never mind the quality, feel the width' approach when some people need their quality gaming more concentrated.
I'm guessing you already know about these but for those who don't and have a similar interest, a lot of old games magazines are available to download from....
I'd love to know what made anything think I would like Destiny, given my PS4 history of playing FPS games is about an hour on Wolfenstein (I get Motion Sickness as well as not liking them)
I agree with the article. The indie influx has generally been very positive, they're a great alternative to the sometimes stodgy AAA stuff. I love the variety on offer as a result.
I also think including them in the IGC is a good idea, it gets them a lot of publicity they may not otherwise get. There was never a promise of endless AAA with the IGC and I don't feel entitled to expect such especially this early in the machines life. Let's face it if there's a big game you really want you buy it rather than wait for Plus anyway.
It is however, depressing to see some posters trying so very hard to be negative. That's modern gaming for you I suppose. Genuine and justified excitement is just something to complain about.
Best ever? Hmmm not sure yet, will need to let the hysteria and excitement die down first. Right up there though. Simply an astonishing number of games that will help the PS4 as it heads towards critical mass (if it isn't there already). Microsoft's was very good too, fingers crossed for Nintendo today.
Bought mine for the truck reason. I trust that, like Sony's three previous home consoles, the PS4 will have a massive variety of software combining everything third party and a healthy selection of exclusives. It certainly has the first of the two with the exclusives on the way.
It also has the Remote Play option which as a Vita owner I make good use of. PlayStation Plus was a factor too. When I bought my PS4 in August I already had A stash of games to tinker with.
I also have a Wii U which, while hindered by Nintendos awful business decisions, has some superb software. The PS4 and Wii U compliment each other perfectly. This is the fourth generation where I've bought Nintendo and Sony.
Sigh. You still have your opinion and fact all confused. You still can't grasp that you not liking something doesn't mean it's a bad purchase for anyone else. These are actually really straightforward concepts. But if you think wasting your time trying to convince others you're right on a subject you can never be right on is worthwhile crack on.
P.S. I love my Wii U but if you honestly think it's only struggling because of poor marketing well, I don't know where to start.
"is that in contrast to your narcissistic self righteous Sony fan boy posts?"
Narcissistic, self-righteous? Yes probably. Sony fanboy? No.
"I buy consoles for playing games." So do most people.
"Ps4 has no games worth playing that aren't on ps3 that warrant paying so much money for the hardware." In your opinion.
"And the power for the price is a joke. The processor is way under powered and only 8gb of ram for "next gen" it should have had 16 to ensure it delivered for next 5-7 years as a "powerhouse" that it claims to be. My laptop dumps all over a ps4 and i hardly game on it." Your laptop won't have cost £349
"The games that are on ps4 I could get for my laptop but they aren't worth playing anyway" in your opinion
"hence I sold the ps4. It's just not worth the investment" In your opinion, based on your personal circumstances.
This is why you find it weird. You didn't like it. But to understand why something sells you have to think a long way out of the prism of your own personal circumstanced. I have no interest in XBox One because the exclusives don't appeal but I understand it sells because other people fancy it.I currently spend most of my time on the Wii U but I can understand why someone who doesn't like Mario Kart/Bayonetta 2/Pikmin 3 etc wouldn't want one.
From an objective point-of-view I can see why the PS4 has sold. there's nothing 'weird' about it.
If that's sarcasm it's quite funny. If it's not, and judging by your post history (endless tedious moaning, confusing of fact and opinion) it isn't, well actually it's even funnier.
Sorry mate, looking at my original reply it was more confrontational than I intended. Sony have got the basics right - powerful machine for the price, wide variety of software, all the third-party big hitters, brand loyalty from previous machines and PS Plus, great marketing. That's why they're selling.
Last years version was bad but this is magnificent. In single-player or local multiplayer (haven't played online) this is comfortably the best football game around.
'Marketing is now....the most important aspect of selling consoles'
I don't understand that 'now'. Marketing has always been the most important aspect. Nintendo going or multiple ommercial partners in the 80s as well as 'The Wizard', Sega in the early 90's, Sony with PS1, Nintendo's Wii ads, MS's brute force approach to spending their way into the industry and propping up XB1 in the last few months etc.
