Resistance 3 PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Resistance was one of the flagship franchises from the PlayStation 3 era, but it’s been missing in action since the disappointing PlayStation Vita spin-off Resistance: Burning Skies released in 2012. Insomniac Games, to its credit, is renowned for reinventing itself in subsequent generations, moving from the likes of Spyro the Dragon to Ratchet & Clank and now Marvel’s Spider-Man. But what are the chances of the Chimera ever making a comeback?

“It feels like it’s a longshot to me,” community director James Stevenson told Australian website Finder. “But I have learned over the years to never say never. I think there are a lot of people out there that have fond memories of a Resistance game from the PS3, but yeah, never say never, it’s just that we have no plans to make another Resistance game in the future.”

Stevenson mentioned that Sony does own the intellectual property, so it could put another developer at the helm if it really wanted to. Personally, we think the ship has sailed for this series; Killzone was always the better seller of the two, so it feels like the more likely first-person franchise that could get revived. We liked the Resistance games a lot, though – particularly for their interesting armaments, which remained imaginative right throughout the entire main trilogy.
