BioWare has released a fantastic infographic for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, detailing all kinds of stats and statistics based on the choices players have made across all three remastered games.
Please note that some of these stats do refer to potential story spoilers.
It makes for a really interesting read, especially if you're already familiar with the adventures of Commander Shepard. Speaking of, male Shepard is still the most popular lead, with 68 per cent of players choosing to be a guy. As for character classes, Soldier is still number one, with 40 per cent of players opting to bolster their weapon abilities. And to be fair, Adrenaline Rush is really, really good.
Elsewhere, a whopping 94 per cent of players managed to save Wrex on Virmire in the first Mass Effect. And Kaiden still isn't as popular as Ashley, who continues to be the most saved squadmate with a 60/40 split.
Onto Mass Effect 2, Mordin is apparently the least likely squadmate to survive the suicide mission. Meanwhile, Garrus is that same mission's top survivor. Priorities, people!
As for matters of galactic importance, a huge 96 per cent of players cured the Genophage in Mass Effect 3. You call yourselves Renegades?!
You can find the full graphic below.
What choices did you make in Mass Effect Legendary Edition? Express your shock and possible horror at some of these statistics in the comments section below.

Weird that only 32% chose the canon Shep.
Imagine picking Ashley. Oof.
I never understood why people hate on male Shepard so much. I think the VO does an awesome job for him personally. Don't get me wrong I like Fem Shepard too but both choices have their merits.
Now the 6% that killed Wrex? That is truly unforgivable! 😆
Mordin's the only one who died in my playthrough of ME2, although in my defense, I didn't understand the mechanics of the suicide mission at the time and thought I was being careful. By the time I was done and found out Mordin had died, I decided to keep that choice rather than playing through the ending all over again to try and save everyone.
Mordin has the weakest defence rating thats why he dies the most its not that players choose this
@Kidfried who said fem shep is canon ?
@Kidfried @Korgon I think Mark Meer (the VA) is a really good paragon shep. Not so great at Renegade.
Jennifer Hale is great at both but particularly as a Renegade.
Regardless 32% is a huge improvement on the reported 18% in the original ME2.
No way Wrex is 4th in popularity in mass effect 1
@trev666 Someone wise. Might be me, come to think of it.
My man Wrex being the 4th most popular squadmate in ME 1 hurts my soul.
On a different note, it's Virmire, not Vermire. Very nice article btw.
@themightyant I agree Hale's renegade is amazing. I always planned on playing Paragon, but Hale convinced me to go Renegade!
You're right that Mark Meer makes more sense as Paragon.
@themightyant
I don't know, hearing Male Shep call the preaching hanar a big stupid jellyfish in ME1 is food for the soul!
@Kidfried To be 100% clear I didn't say Mark Meer "makes MORE sense as Paragon" but he's not a bad option.
Regardless everyone's personal head canon is their own. There aren't right or wrong answers... whatever keyboard warriors tell us
40% chose Soldier? C'mon guys everyone knows how dull that class is! Also 68% missed out on Jennifer Hale, their loss
@Korgon I don't remember that line but I do know that 95% of the lines are identical across the two genders offered.
Personally I think Hale nails both and Meer is good for Paragon. But I won't argue against anyone else having another view.
I might be weird but I based my character on my 12 month old daughter 😅
Jasmine Shepherd, Half Scottish half Chinese, Spacer, War Hero, Vanguard.
Ultra Paragon, saved everyone you can, cured the genophage, saved the Galaxy. Oh, my little Jazzy 😭❤️
Not going to lie, I expected to see at least a 70-30 split in favor of fem shep.
I could've sworn Mordin had cancer or something and only had a few months to live so that's why I chose him.
Anyway, he shall forever be remembered on my PS3 save file... until it gets corrupted.
@Gamer83 I think its that femshep supporters are more vocal of their support than the silent majority
@themightyant
Fair enough. At the end of the day its up to personal preference. I just feel like Mark Meer gets a bit too much disrespect from the community as a whole sometimes. Although the numbers say otherwise so maybe I'm just only seeing a very vocal minority.
@nessisonett IKR? 60% of people are pro space-racism?
Well, in my case:
1. Male Shep
2. Ashley over mindnumbingly boring Kaiden any day
3. Wrex dies on Virmire every time (well, I did save him once but regretted that later)
4. I play as Infiltrator mostly (cloaking + melee kills= satisfaction)
5. I usually use both Legion and Grunt
6. I usually cure genophage, but I'm in the middle of ME3 right now and this time Mordin doesn't get his wish).
@JB_Whiting
I'm currently playing Femshep for the first time! She's pretty good, particularly when she's telling someone off lmao.
Playing Paragon though, I can't do Renegade..
@theheadofabroom
That's rubbish. Ashley has good reasons for her apprehension of aliens and explains those in ME1 in a conversation with Shep. Also, she changes as a character as the story progresses. I don't get why people hate on her so much while also disregarding the fact that she wasn't made to be a racist for no reason by the scriptwriters.
When I play this I'm gonna be starting as a paragon and getting worse as the game goes along. The hell that the galaxy and Shepherd goes through is going to turn my character into a twisted person.
Last picture is on point. Personally saved Kaiden, tho. Had no idea it was a choice lol Thought I could meet Ashley and help later. Never used either of them in my squad before or after, though, so don't care. It was always Krogan and Tali. I only used the others for their side missions lol
@Korgon People don't "hate" MaleShep, they just really love Hale. And Hale was done never given enough credit for her performance by Bioware themselves. Why do they "hate" FemShep so much?
Does anyone else think Liara is a bit overrated? She seems to be everyone favourite but I didn’t really care much for her tbh.
This is rad. But how dare so many letting best gal Tali die.
Ashley is Xenophobic not racist there's a difference
@fR_eeBritney she is. But she already lost to garrus and tali. She's going up against wrex and both boring human characters. Id argue swapping wrex and her. But kind of meaningless cause Garrus/Tali forever
@gollumb82 Yeah I agree with you. After saving both in prior playthroughs, Ashley has the better story. Kaidan is boring all the way through.
@Kidfried
Sure like I said maybe have just seen a vocal minority that is a toxic group of Fem Shep fans. And again I like Hale too! But it just seems like Mark gets a lot more disrespect when in reality I think both of them do a great job.
And I don't think I can agree that Bioware never gave her credit. She has been on multiple special streams about ME, had multiple interviews about her role, and also got a much needed face lift in Legendary Edition for her ME1 look. She has also been promoted in most of the Legendary Edition trailers.
Though I will say she could have used some love back when the first 2 games were being promoted. I loved ME3's Steelcase reverse cover they did. Wish something similar happened for the cover art of ME1 and 2.
@nessisonett if I could have offed them both I would have.
IIRC the whole "Femshep is canon" thing is just the toxic internet doing what the toxic internet does. I think the whole thing started with a Bioware interview stating that originally Femshep was the only/main shep, and then when it got to marketing they made Maleshep the face of the game for demographic reasons, and so the original storyboard got kind of retconned pre-launch. Which is fair, but either way, "Femcanon" existed only before the game marketing really began. Since then, Maleshep became the face of the game in the real world, regardless of the reasons, but the internet won't let it go...
how can someone NOT save Rachnai Queen?
People are surprised the most popular character is male?
In Baldur’s gate 3 you can play as Drow, tieflings, Elves etc. and the most common build is a white human man with brown hair.
Poor Mordin being the least likely to survive.
Anyone that exlied Tali can go straight to hell.
Miranda Lawson, thane and tali were definitely my favourite characters. I played as a paragon throughout the trilogy so tended too see the most favourable outcomes for all the characters however my partner at the time played as a renegade and I will never forgive her for what she did too poor tali lol
Mordin's death is dissapointing in me2 because you miss such a good moment in Me3.
Secondly, the 32 percent is much better than the 18 percent in ME3. Shows the decreased divide in videogames over the years as well as Bioware marketing femshep properly this time. Even if something is not popular in the mainstream initially, advertising and encouraging it raises it quite a lot.
Third point, the genophage turned from a grey issue in ME1 to a very 'renegade and evil people only commit genophage" in ME3 even though its obvious that krogan will overpopulate in the galaxy bringing death and destruction. Still would support the 6 percent.
@gollumb82 Not To Mention That Everything She Said About The Council Cerberus And Even Shepard (Citadel Dlc) Ended Up Happening.
@Kidfried Because your game, your canon.
No one reads the books anyways.
@RawnDawn Back it up with Plus? 😅
@alpha5099 same. Thought I had a perfect save for ME3 back in the day and when I got to play it when it came out, turns out ONLY he died. WHAAAAATTT
@trev666
Yeah, it'd definitely appear that way given these numbers.
Femshep adept is the definite and correct way to play the series. I have spoken.
I honestly think this says something about humanity and our ability for empathy. That even in a video game we feel bad for a bunch of pixels and are inclined to do the 'right thing'
@drd7of14 Nah, too much work mate xd
I already got the plat for it so it's all good.
Why didn't more people kill Wrex? It was very enjoyable moment?
