I don't play Fortnite but I've fond memories of Danny Phantom so I support this. Do kind of wonder if they're doing this though because they're running out of franchises to cross over with.
The problem with the industry is that they pour so much money into each game that comes out it needs to make major bank to be considered a success. Cutting back on realistic graphics and making the worlds smaller would go a long way to trim the costs and raise their profit margins.
As much as I'd hate to see Rocksteady get shut down, I think it'd be more fair if they were the ones to go. Suicide Squad was their game after all, even if outside meddling hurt it they deserve to be punished more than Monolith did.
I hate this, but I'd rather get no Wonder Woman game than a terrible one that fails and makes executives think no one cares about the character. It's a shame though, Monolith were great and now they're dead because of incompetence on someone else's part.
I mean, I guess it looks fine but if it's not going to follow the plot of the game, what's the point in calling it "Until Dawn?" I don't even think it was a good idea to make an until dawn movie so it seems pointless.
Unpopular opinion: Full 3D works better for Final Fantasy so I'd rather see 6 in that style. Not saying this would be a bad choice, but I'd see it more as a remaster than anything.
Frankly, part of me hopes this is true. This level of failure will be hard to ignore, even for out-of-touch corporate suits. I don't champion people losing their jobs, but at the point we are now the only option might be to burn everything to the ground and start anew.
I'm not surprised this game isn't bad. It never looked bad, it looked generic, which was the real problem. Live service games that are absolute disasters like Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League are entertaining to watch because they keep sinking to levels of awfulness. The only reason people are paying attention to this right now is because of how much money it cost and how unremarkable it is. Because of that it probably won't even last as long as other live service disasters that were able to get by for a bit with streamers showing off just how terrible it all was.
And just when I thought Marvel was doing so well with their games. Ah well. It'd be hilarious if the game was set around the Sinister Six or Thunderbolts in an attempt to do what Suicide Squad did.
This makes me want to cry a little. I was hoping Suicide Squad would be a wakeup call. Not to mention they had Gotham Knights two years ago. Seriously, what's it going to take for them to find some common sense.
Fingers crossed that WB gives up on their live service ambitions after this dumpster fire. I know their CEO said he wants every game to be live service, but if they all end up like this one (and I've a feeling they'll all end up like this one) then he might change his tune.
I assume they don't have much choice. They've sunk too much money into the thing to not release post-game content. Sadly, I doubt this game will last longer than two years.
My hope is that they explore some of the wizarding schools other than Hogwarts. It'd certainly be more interesting than seeing WB rehash the Harry Potter movies like they're planning.
@Thumper They can't. Warner Bros owns them, so they have no choice but to do what they say. I'm not an expert in business stuff so there might be a way but I imagine it'd be difficult.
Shocker. Wonder if they're going to push it back until they get positive feedback like Ubisoft did with Skull and Bones or just rip that band-aid off and let it flop. Also, I notice that Persona 3 Reload is launching the same day, I don't want to get my hopes too high given that this game has more mass-market appeal but I think it'd be beautiful if Persona ended up besting it both critically and commercially.
@NinjaNicky It's like Pokemon in that way. People's brains have been hardwired in to buying it regardless of how low its quality is. And since people still buy it, the chances of it improving are slim.
Can't help but wonder what the reaction from the more extreme Zelda fans would be in that event. Either would be a good choice but given Breath of the Wild won a few years ago and Baldur's Gate 3 had more going against it I think it deserves it more.
I admit to still kind of wanting a Persona 5 arena, but other than that I agree we need to move on. Funnily enough I remember people where complaining about Persona 4 being overused for awhile right before 5 came out.
Not having much interest in military shooters to begin with, I've never bought any COD games. I'd like to think even if I was into them, I'd refuse to buy this game. Sadly, if Pokemon gen 9 taught me anything it's that consumers are morons.
I'm glad to see 16 taking home a few awards, especially Ben Starr for best performance. I was worried they'd give it to Idris Elba due to him being such a big name, regardless of the fact he already has plenty of major awards and a lot more money.
I've always found what companies choose to censor and not censor to be pretty arbitrary. I don't see why DOA xtreme is bad but this is okay. Oh well, I'm sure the game will be more shock than substance but that's no reason to ban it.
A little bit concerned to be honest. Most of the people who made Rockstar Rockstar have left the company, which in turn has become much more corporatized.
This has been a pretty stacked year so the competition will be fierce. Legend of Zelda and Baldur's Gate 3 are obviously the frontrunners, and I hope the latter takes it. I feel like Baldur's Gate was overall more innovative and came from a studio with far less name recognition and resources. Plus, Breath of the Wild already won a few years ago, so I think it'd be fair to give another franchise it's time to shine. I can't imagine some of the more unreasonable Zelda fans would be happy though. No offense to most of them, but some can get pretty overprotective of the franchise.
Sad to see this one has largely flown under the radar. I've seen virtually nothing about this anywhere but here. I'll have to see if I have the funds to get it sometime soon, I like supporting smaller games like this.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I'd say this is one of the most depressing declines in gaming history, up there with the decline of Blizzard and Konami.
The conversation around whether 16 is a true Final Fantasy reminds me of why I hate the "[blank] game doesn't feel like a [blank] game" argument. One of the biggest problems in any artistic medium is stagnation, and there are quite a few franchises that are content with keeping the same formula long after it stopped working. I don't deny that not all of Final Fantasy's innovations have been for the best, but I admire that the creators have never been one to rest on their laurels and pump out something lazy. Say what you will about 13 and 15, they weren't lazy.
Wow, they're really grasping at straws. I know everyone loves Black Flag, but I think over reliance on Assassin's Creed is part of why they're in a financial situation to begin with. There's only so long that the series will be able to be their lifeline.
Alright, that's the last one I needed to have a full set. Square's done a pretty good job at getting their old games remastered for modern consoles. Still need a Final Fantasy 13 collection and a bundle of the FF tactics games.
This game is going to flop and it's going to flop hard. Ubisoft knows it as well as anyone. They should just release it already, rip that band aid right off and take the loss. Then at least they'd be allowed to move on to something else.
@Porco I'm hoping for both a remake of Persona 1 and 2 but I think it makes sense they'd want to do 3 first. 3 created the formula for the modern Persona game, while the first two are lacking some of the key features people have come to expect from the series. There would be a heavy debate on whether or not to implement a social link like system and that might be a headache for another day.
Honestly, if Sony were to buy a major studio I'd prefer it to be Square. Not that I them to own them that badly, I just want them to start giving a crap about Japan again.
I'm disappointed but I was hoping for some real long shots like Persona 6, Persona 3 remake, and a remake for another Final Fantasy game. The only two absences that I feel where a problem were Stellar Blade and FF7 Rebirth, though I say that with some apprehension as we've had too many rushed games released these past few years. There were too many live service games for my liking but there was a good amount of variety over all which I always like to see. I'm also happy they gave at least some time to tech stuff like PSVR2 and the new playstation handheld.
Skull in Bones is clearly going to be dead in the water. They should just release it and get that band aid pulled off already so they can move onto something more interesting.
Part of me wants to say that I'd rather have a Wheel of Time MMO seeing as how one of those doesn't already exist. But given how that TV series turned out under Amazon, I think it'd be best to let another studio take a crack at it.
I hope 13 gets a remastered collection soon. I haven't played it in years so I'd like to see what my current opinion is now that I've played through other games in the series. Even if it's bad I still want a remaster, it's just as important to remember bad games as well as good games.
