Well, if you've ever wanted your likeness to appear as an official asset in a PlayStation game, you now have the chance: Sony has announced a new scheme called The Playerbase, where you can have yourself scanned and placed into a PS5 title.
To start off, one fan will be selected to appear as a character in Gran Turismo 7. Their likeness will be used for a limited time as a character portrait, and they'll also get to design a permanent car decal. The winner will be invited to a studio in Los Angeles to have themselves scanned and design the livery, with applicants being accepted through the link.
PlayStation will select a handful of applicants for video interviews to learn more about them and their connection to the brand, and then the winner will be chosen based on that. The Playerbase starts with Gran Turismo 7, but Sony says it wants to expand the scheme to more PlayStation Studios titles in the future.
"The Playerbase is our way of saying thank you to the players who make PlayStation what it is today," said vice president of global marketing Isabelle Tomatis. "We can’t wait to meet the fans who will step into the world of PlayStation in a whole new way."
Of course, sports games over the years have allowed you to scan your likeness into the likes of NBA 2K and WWE 2K for years now through smartphone apps. What The Playerbase is doing, however, seems to be a far more professional approach where your likeness will be more accurately placed into a first-party release.
What do you make of this program, and what PS5 title would you want your face inserted into? Tell us in the comments below.

I've zero interest in this kind of thing. Maybe they've found out I'm in the minority.
They already scanned my body to use in GoW 2018, it was for Mimir if anyone is asking.
That's great news, I've got the perfect face as the protagonist in a first person shooter.
If anyone here wins the opportunity, please show up to the studio wearing this. I'm begging you.
Now, if they could also record my voice and use AI to generate speech and movement then Sony would never need to hire a voice actor or motion capture ever again, as their fanbase is basically endless. 😀
@stu123 Its not zero interest. You clicked on the article. Not being a dick, just saying
What a dystopian s*** to drop on a random Tuesday…
You could use the eyetoy on Tony Hawk Underground 2 on ps2 to do this or you could email an image to an address and then download it within the game on the previous game
Side note: Tony Hawk was very progressive with weird stuff on ps2, THPS3 had usb modem support because the ps2 network adapter didn’t exist yet (at least outside Japan)
I tried this once with NBA and the result would make Cthulhu proud. I think I'll pass this time. 😂 🦑🦑🦑
@The_Jobbo I should've said zero interest in using it.
I'd prefer stuff like this didn't happened. It's bad enough seeing 'influencers and Youtubers' in games already
I think it was one of the Rainbow 6 Vegas games that let you scan your face with the EyeToy back on PS3. End result was very weird and my character ended up looking like some nightmare version of David Schwimmer.
This feels like an April Fool's joke that was announced too late
Some pretty funny responses here
Can I use this initiative to put myself as Peter Parker in Spiderman 2? I look more like Peter than the one that was cast for the role.
Would be fun of it was me. Or we all could get a realistic Mii like character to use in games.
From the rules page:

You agree not to assert any moral or similar rights you may have in your Entry. Sponsor has the right, but not the obligation, to use any of the Entries."
They can quite literally do anything they want with your likeness and the data that you submit. Super dubious and alarming if you ask me.
You know, I would like that. Maybe in a Assassin's Creed, a The Last of Us, Spider-Man game...Like a Dragon for a foreigner side--story haha
Uh-oh, something’s not right. Please check that you’re signed in and try again.
I guess will try later
Edit..could be because I am a dog?
No thanks. If we’ve learned anything from James Earl Jones’s voice being used as Darth Vader in an AI approximation for Fortnite, you need a contract that protects you far more than you’d like to imagine before allowing yourself to become an asset.
@LowDefAl Rainbow 6 Vegas on Xbox 360. Loved having my mug available to absorb bullets!
Isn't lending your likeness towards model creation something you typically get paid for in modern game development? Like face modelling is a job in its own right so this feels a bit like Sony's trying to exploit their fanbase into doing otherwise paid work for free 😵💫
@KoopaTheGamer 'Perpetual' instantly set off every red flag for me because that single word essentially means that Sony can use your face for whatever they want in years/decades to come and you can't do s*** about it 😭
No thanks! I’m sure the younger generations that love taking selfies and adding filters will love this feature.
