'It'd Be One Helluva Game': Resident Evil Star Wants Code Veronica PS5 Remake 1

One of this author’s fondest Resident Evil memories is watching an FMV cut-scene from Code Veronica on an old Dreamcast demo disc.

You probably remember it: the one with Claire Redfield running from a helicopter as gunfire forces showers of shattered glass.

While the game was later ported to the PS2 in an expanded format, it’s always been one of the more overlooked entries in the otherwise groundbreaking franchise. If you’re curious about it, you can play the original on the PS4 with Trophies right now.

But there has been talk of some kind of remake for some time, especially now that Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 have all received modern reimaginings.

Leon S. Kennedy’s voice actor Nick Apostolides believes the 2000 title would send fans “ballistic” if it got revamped in a modern format.

He told PC Gamer, as reported by Games Radar:

“I would like to see a Code Veronica get remade because that, to me, was a very challenging game. But the story of it was just so wild and weird, and I think if they did it in today's RE Engine with today's storytelling and grounded acting, I think that would be one helluva game. To see that game in the RE Engine, oh wow. If they announce that, I think fans are going to go ballistic.”

It’s true: Code Veronica was very difficult. But the Dreamcast version in particular received universally positive acclaim, with many critics describing it as the best Resident Evil game available at the time.

You have to imagine that a remake would keep the spirit of the original while smoothing out some of its rougher edges. Specifically those infuriating moth enemies, we’re looking at you.

But what do you want next out of Resident Evil in the aftermath of Requiem? Would you like to revisit Code Veronica, or perhaps even the first game in the franchise? Let us know below.
