Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

@TheFrenchiestFry did they buy the rights to Spider-Man 2 after Spider-Man 1 has been a successful multi platform hit? No. They did a deal with Marvel to make an PS exclusive game based on a Marvel character and Insomniac picked Spider-Man. The last standalone Spider-Man game was back in 2012. It was not an active franchise.

Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

aric201812

The issue is not exclusives. Every platform holder should definitely focus on creating new IP from their studios. What annoys people is acquiring existing IP & pipeline (that you might be invested in / excited for), putting a wall around it, then saying you are pro consumer.

Re: PS Plus October 2020 PS4 Games Announced

aric201812

Played Vampyr from Now and really liked it so would encourage people to give it a go and dig into the side stories. Given the type of game I thought the combat was ok, esp when combining different abilities together, though even on a passive run you become totally OP by end of game.

Re: February PlayStation Plus Games Revealed

aric201812

Underwhelming for me personally. But what is it with Asia PS Plus though? They get LBP3 + Until Dawn + GoW3 Remastered?! Is it with the smaller sub base it doesn't cost them as much to do? Or the games just aren't selling in the region so it costs less for Sony to do a deal?

Re: Talking Point: Has Holiday 2016 Devalued New Games?

aric201812

Been trying to get through my backlog recently so have been lagging behind by at lest six months on the bigger games recently. Whilst they are cheaper to pickup the one thing I have felt is that you miss out on is being part of the conversation when they are released... esp the case where it is something I am interested in and try to blank out all possible spoiler discussion until I have actually played it. Playing something like Bloodborne or Uncharted in the release window feels intrinsically more exciting even if changes nothing about the actual gameplay itself.

Re: Assassin's Creed Syndicate Polished Up with PS4 Pro Patch

aric201812

@NathanUC mmm... the only issue I had was carriage driving in the ripper dlc that destroyed the fps and made those sections virtually unplayable... otherwise had very few issues in the base game and I think only 2 or 3 crashes. if you are a fan of the franchise I would encourage you to give it a go as it can be had pretty cheap now ($15 on psn I think)

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 4.06 Improves the Quality of Your Console

aric201812

@mantralux the xbone s has a slightly higher clock speed that is permanently enabled and has been shown to result in higher or more stable fps for many games. Perhaps the clock speed difference is not enough to break games but you would think we would have heard if it was causing issues by now.

Re: PS4 Sales Triple in UK Following Pro Launch

aric201812

@get2sammyb i get the 4K argument but I think one of the issues highlighted by DF that people are unhappy about is that running at 1080p the Pro is dropping frames vs base due to supersampling. In those instances one option would be to let the user run the game in base mode which is what happens when a non-pro game is played anyway. This could be enabled at a system level as an option and would mean that the Pro could never perform worse than base at 1080p.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS4 Pro?

aric201812

@electrolite77 wonder if Sony could release a firmware patch to allow that setting at a system level. I don't see how a slightly higher clock speed would break existing games if that is what they are worried about but at least give people the choice.

Re: PS4's The Last Guardian Looks Bewilderingly Beautiful in New Screens

aric201812

@get2sammyb not at all but I personally find it a distraction from the art direction if the image looks less than clean shall we say.

For a game in development for nearly 10 years (now 3yrs into PS4 life cycle) and receiving a full priced retail release I would love it to look like a 2016 game. I would have less issue if it was priced in line with gravity rush, nathan drake collection etc. It may well be that in action the game is a spellbinding experience which is why I asked the question.

Re: Feature: Should You Buy the PS4 Pro?

aric201812

@Chris0160 be careful though as I don't think this, and other cheaper 4K panels, are HDR capable and that is as big, if not biggger, than the resolution jump. Also need to be aware of input lag esp with HDR enabled. It's a bit of a minefield until it becomes more standardised.

Re: PS4 Pro Is Already Being Sold in Some Stores

aric201812

@PoisonDwarf I could be wrong but I don't think you can just swap in an HDD from one PS4 to another (pro or otherwise). It will force a re-format. You can only swap in/out with the same PS4. If you still have the existing PS4 best option is to transfer to the Pro via Ethernet connnection. I bought an SSD and am waiting to get the Pro before formatting and copying across.

Re: Hardware Review: PlayStation VR - The Future of Play

aric201812

@get2sammyb great detailed review! one thing I was wondering about is motion sickness. There are some reviews out there saying it is a big problem on PSVR even with seated games like Driveclub VR. Did you find this? Does it vary massively person to person?

Re: PS4 Slim Sales Off to a Slow Start in the UK

aric201812

989% week-on-week sales increase! As Sammy says context is important here as this type of jump is related to a huge spike on the back of a FIFA bundle and low sales the prior week for xbone. Still the PS4 slim is not a great value proposition since on an equal HD size basis the 1TB version is only £50 less than the Pro. Will be interesting to see how things develop over the holiday season as a more competitive market is better for consumers.

Re: First Impressions: PS4 Pro Represents a Sizeable Step Forward

aric201812

@BAMozzy thanks for this. I had been waiting on 4K HDR with low input lag and it looks like it is as simple as a firmware update as previously HDR game mode was not available. Perhaps other manafactures will do the same now 4K gaming is on the verge of becoming mainstream and we will have a good choice of TVs to pick from.

Re: Poll: Should the PS4 Pro Have a UHD Blu-ray Player?

aric201812

@get2sammyb exactly my thoughts. My use of bluray has been minimal in the last few years and never using PS4. Prefer a separate box that anyone in the family can use easily. Coming in on price is more important esp since a larger number of potential buyers (me included) will be still on a 1080p TV for a while yet. By the time I get a 4K TV standalone players will be a lot cheaper. If you already have 4K then it seems likely that you already have a dedicated player since you will have prescious little media to watch otherwise.

There is also a wider issue on uhd bluray and Sony. Despite helping to create the format they still have no player available to the public and have only just announced a non-retail player for pro installers in the US to be released sometime next year. This is in sharp contrast to DVD and bluray when they were at the leading edge.

What are the chances that PS5 abandons any physical media player?

Re: This Is the Best PS4 Pro Sales Pitch You'll See Today

aric201812

Agreed. The presentation seemed incredibly somber and totally lacking energy. There was absolutely zero reaction when the form factor was revealed but I guess the audience was all journos. It was all a little underwhelming and of course none of the graphical improvements can be appreciated on the video stream. That is going to be a big challenging for selling 4K HDR. Selling a big improvment in 1080 quality (detail / fps) might actually be easier.

Re: This Is the Best PS4 Pro Sales Pitch You'll See Today

aric201812

If I see more on improvements at 1080p performance then I might jump in as I don't plan to get a 4K TV until the input lag on HDR mode is improved. Most current 4K TVs don't allow HDR when in game mode which means input lag can be 3-4x greater vs SDR game mode. It should change now HDR consoles are coming out as previously HDR was aimed only as AV enthusiasts.

Re: Soapbox: Sony Needs to Set the Record Straight on PS4K Soon

aric201812

I am fairly neutral on this at the moment and will probably wait to see if there is a meaningful difference in quality. If the details are correct it seems like the significant GPU upgrade would be bottlenecked by more minor upgrades elsewhere.

To use the PC analogy if Base is Recommended spec and Neo is Ultra then nobody should have a poor experience. The concern would be if Base became the equivalent of Minimum spec over time.

Longer term I see some problems if the next upgrade is PS5. Would PS4.5 then be the "base"? Or cut out entirely which might make for a very short product lifecycle.

Re: PlayStation VR's US Pre-Order Bundle Costs More Than $399

aric201812

The bundle is not bad value but surely that is the holiday sku and day one adopters would want the stand alone. Really weird marketing decision. I also think it's odd that the base version doesn't come with anything other than the playroom demo. You would think the VR Worlds thing should be a pack in for all versions.
