This isn’t great news, but I’m going to take HG’s comments at face value for the time being. They’re calling this a “restructuring.” Time will tell if it’s truly that, or if this is the beginning of the end for them.
I hope everyone who was laid off is able to land on their feet and find something new and energizing in the next phase of their careers.
@CGesange Of course. With the fantasy and tactical RPG elements, this isn’t meant to be a historically accurate retelling of events. Not even close. It’s more of a “what if?” scenario with a Joan of Arc theme.
I remember having a lot of fun with this on PSP, but it's been so long that I'm worried about ruining my fond memories if it hasn't aged well. Plus, the rest of the games in my backlog might protest. 😂
As much as I love speculation, this is the “Switch Pro” discourse all over again. “It hasn’t released yet,” even though its existence also hasn’t been confirmed.
“Do you think it exists? When will it release? Do we need one? Do you want one?” Copy, paste, post, repeat.
@I-Mace-I I wondered why the headline and article used quotes around "offline mode" when that was inaccurate. Kind of annoying. Thanks for the added insight!
@Anti-Matter I’m sorry you went through the trauma you did as a child. I’m also glad to hear you want to prevent the same for today’s young gamers.
What I’m not following is how or where any sort of traumatizing 18+ content is present or disguised in Astro Bot games. Where is the violation you speak of?
@Anti-Matter I don't think anyone needs to sift through your comments to figure out why you've chosen to "ban" Astro Bot. That's entirely your prerogative.
As a frequent and visible member of this community, it would be more beneficial to focus on engaging positively rather than pushing moralistic views and making random, often reductive, statements.
@BamBamBaklava89 Time to start saving up for a PS5, or get used to the collection of games already available for PS4.
Power comparisons between the PS4 and Switch aside (because your point is fair), both the PS5 and Switch are current flagship consoles for their respective companies.
PS4 had a great run, but its time as a mainstay in the business side of the industry is over. I’m sorry… 🤷🏽♂️
Calling this game “weird” in the headline is certainly an interesting choice. Not sure how I’d feel after reading that if I were on this dev team. The headline is perfectly fine without that.
@Nei Your comment seems to be more about projecting your personal preferences and assumptions onto others. Just because games like Animal Crossing don’t appeal to you doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with those who enjoy them. Instead of making unfounded judgments, maybe consider sticking to discussions about the games you do enjoy.
It’s on my backlog but I intend to play it someday. I played through a bit of the intro a while back and I’m very much looking forward to diving back in once I’ve gotten through some other titles I’ve been sitting on.
I’ll take as many seasons as they’ll give me, as long as they don’t start trying to milk every angle they can with a bunch of spinoffs. I’m looking at you, TWD.
@awp69 Yeah. I see a lot of people bothered by the full price, but if they don’t have PS Plus I’m sure it’ll go on sale in other ways in the future (just like OTII does pretty regularly).
I’d like to go in with low expectations so I can’t be disappointed. I don’t really know what to expect, and I don’t want to get hyped until something is worth being hyped over. For now, I’ll just remain cautiously optimistic.
This might just be the boost I need to actually beat the first game. I’ve enjoyed it on Switch, but I’ve only done the first couple chapters of each character’s storyline. I bought Octopath 2 on sale not too long ago, but I don’t want to play and get used to the QOL improvements then go backwards. While I don’t expect those to be added to a PS4/PS5 port of the first game, I do expect the load times to be significantly better.
@StrickenBiged Apple already has a feature known as Legacy Contacts. In their words: “A Legacy Contact is someone you choose to have access to the data in your Apple account after your death.”
You can also designate more than one Legacy Contact.
I loved LN1 and bought LN2 as soon as it was available for PS5, but it's still on my backlog. 🙈 I'm planning to play LN2 this October. Needless to say, but I'm more than ok waiting for LN3 to be the best it can be.
“ PlayStation no longer seems interested in announcing projects years in advance…”
This is exactly right. I think they took the feedback and uproar over past delays the wrong way. It’s one thing to give release windows and consistently fail to meet them. It’s another to tease without providing a release timeline but at least give people something to be intrigued by.
It’s impossible to please everybody, but the art of teasing and building genuine hype seems to be mostly lost. The silence is deafening. But hey… I’m sure we’ll hear plenty about additional layoffs in the coming months. 🥺
After how long it’s been since the original released, I’m not expecting an upgrade path for owners of the PS4 version.
Until Dawn is one of my favorite horror games though, so I intend to pick this up.
If you want this version and can’t budget for it between now and “fall,” I’m not sure what to say…
If there’s something you’re more excited about (or on your backlog) this fall and you’ve already played the OG, go for the new thing. Otherwise, wait for a sale? 😅
I was all about this until I saw it was first-person and multiplayer. Also, having cosmetics in a first-person game that doesn’t really let you see them very much isn’t my favorite thing.
The concept of story-focused episodes dropping over time for players to watch seems nice, though not enough to warrant playing a game that just isn’t for me. It’s a shame, because I’m intrigued by the characters.
I hope this does well though, because I’d certainly like to see some spinoff single player titles or a third-person mode.
The new cosmetics look nice, but others were preorder bonuses so aren’t new to early adopters. I get that overall sales far exceed pre-orders, but this feels a bit lackluster for how long it’s been since release on most platforms.
The ability to reset talent points is nice, considering you can’t unlock every ability in a playthrough. Also, everyone deserves to experience the Haunted Hogsmeade quest and the function it unlocks.
I’d have loved to see some form of New Game+, but obviously it’d need to be balanced for the gameplay progression. If there was going to be more to the update, State of Play would have been the time to make that announcement.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yes, you can do all sorts of things with them. On PlayStation, they sync to the PS App and can also be saved in other ways, then uploaded wherever or shared with friends.
Photo modes are fun, but they’re also a way for devs to engage with their communities and involve players in marketing their favorite games. Some devs (e.g. Naughty Dog) even hold regular photo mode contests for the best shots on their social media profiles.
I went in with low expectations and they were met. Not too keen on anything that was announced, but I can see the appeal. I’m eager to see if the Until Dawn remaster includes any new features or content. Overall, this was just ok for me.
This saga is great for publicity. It keeps many people talking about Naughty Dog and curious about what’s next without them having to say anything specific.
Misquoted or not, it’s an opportunity for Naughty Dog to share something substantial during the State of Play for potentially massive payoff.
If they share nothing, well… This will all just be a minor blip in the gaming news cycle.
I’m not getting my hopes up because of how notoriously secretive they are, but they know what they need to do. 👀
@Matej “She has no chance” why? Because you said so?
I would understand feeling this way AFTER the season has aired and you’ve given it a shot, yet here you are not even willing to consider the possibilities.
@Frmknst It’s so obvious, yet it seems to bear repeating.
You denounced the opinion of someone who felt S1 was incredible and vaguely suggested they “watch some really good shows someday,” yet neglected to offer any suggestions. To what end?
Enjoyment is entirely subjective. You can comment on your own without feeling the need to pull others down.
The skeptics are out in droves. Watch it, or don’t. There will be those who love it, those who hate it, and those who are indifferent. Either way, it’s not out yet so speculate away, but don’t convince yourself your speculations are fact or that they’re in any way representative of the full body of work S2 will represent when all is said and done.
And remember, “comparison is the thief of joy.” ✌🏼
The Portal is a great proof of concept that Sony needs to consider truly re-entering the handheld market. The Vita, in particular, was ahead of its time.
This guide is fairly incomplete, especially for the NG+ outfits. Some are present here, but many are missing. I hope there are plans to ensure it's accurate at some point, considering acquiring all of them requires multiple playthroughs (and more if you miss them in previous ones).
@Ralizah I have no problems with people being upset. What I do find unethical is rampant review bombing over a single point of contention that doesn’t represent the whole of the experience, not to mention one that was communicated prior to launch.
I respect the petition approach players took with Stellar Blade significantly more than the approach being taken with Helldivers 2.
Real people are involved in developing these games. To take the approach with the least tact and nuance about something that was communicated prior to the game’s release feels misguided.
The competition is real right now. Some well-timed sales in the future may help it reach more players. The industry is at a major crossroads right now, one with major volatility issues.
I'm listening... Eager to see how this one shapes up, though I have to choose open-world games wisely. They can be daunting when done wrong OR they can be incredibly fun to explore when done right. 🤞🏼
This team has so much passion for what they've created. FFXVI may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and can't wait to see it take its rightful place in the Final Fantasy legacy in due time.
Looking forward to enjoying so many QOL updates in Final Fantasy Mode! The ability to warp to quest givers upon completion is second only to being able to pet Torgal more frequently.
@NoHope I don't have to, but I'd like to. It's one thing to not vibe with the demo. It's another to liken it to a mobile game. I've never seen a mobile game match the scale, graphics, or mechanics of what was demonstrated in the Stellar Blade demo.
I've not played the demo myself, but you're the only person I've seen characterize it this way. Which elements reminded you of a mobile game?
10 YEARS! That's some Grade-A dedication. 🙌🏼 I'm fascinated by and in awe of the approach, but I'm not sure I'll end up buying or playing it myself. I'm leaning toward seeking out a Let's Play.
@NoHope Please put me out of my misery! Lmao. I’m in the same boat.
I have a bit of backlog paralysis, but I’m trying to get through those games before I jump into anything new. Thankfully, that usually means being able to take advantage of sales on newer titles.
