I think the mismatch in scores is precisely because CD is trying to do a bit of everything, pleasing many people in the process while frustrating others. I'll come back in six months, see how it's shaping up.
Would love to play this, but having read the first review leaks, I can't help thinking I'll be really bad at the combat part. Some of those bosses look like my idea of gaming hell. Guess I'll know when the real reviews drop.
A Blu-ray costs between $2 and $4 to manufacture and package. It’s a bit cheap to not include the whole game, but maybe they will release a complete special edition down the line…
I do hope this shuts up those snarky PS5 owners who have berated the Pro since launch. It's by far and away the best console experience for potentially the biggest game of the year.
P.S. If it runs even on an Xbox Series S, it should be fine on PS5. They'll just turn off some of the bells and whistles.
Never completed it first time round because of a corrupt save. Sorely tempted to go back, but £10 feels a little steep. That £3.74, much more reasonable.
What’s the point of a full 2.0 patch if it doesn’t ‘fundamentally change’ what is a fairly lacklustre title? There are plenty of things Bethesda could have ironed out, like its terrible inventory system or the grind of obtaining materials for base building or some of the more boring fetch quests. Dunno, maybe it’s improved since my underwhelming Xbox playthrough.
Have owned both versions, and was still underwhelmed by the 2nd attempt. Same old issues of discomfort and a small sweet spot. It works okay, but not for long enough without endless adjustments to the headset I’m done with VR, probably forever at my age.
Bought the digital early bird version for £100 and could not have been more disappointed. Yeah, it has a few high points – mainly a handful of intense shooting sections – but it's a real slog and actually pretty tedious for a lot of the time. It would need to be one hell of an update/patch to get me to buy it again.
Had this bought for me as a present and played it for a couple of days. Since then it’s been off while catching up on some Switch 2-updated games (Kirby and the Forgotten Land is joyous!), and I don’t have an overwhelming desire to go back to it, but I will persevere at some point and hope it clicks with me.
Been playing video games for four decades and Cyberpunk is right up there among my most beloved games. As a massive Bladerunner fan, this was the game that transported me into a high-tech dystopian future better than anything else. I would often just run everywhere to experience the city. I cannot wait for the sequel. Just hope they don’t take too long now I’m getting old!
@Junghova I’ve been gaming since the days of Pong and TV light gun games. I have a few more consoles left in me yet - but I’m single player all the way (except stuff like Mario Party). I worry the games market will outgrow me, not the other way around.
If I could run the occasional Windows CG apps I might be interested. I like buying new tech but not convinced I need to add this to my Pro and Switch 2.
@Exerion76 My god, how many games could they have funded with that money! Ghost of Yotei's budget was reportedly a measly $60 million, and it will make a hefty profit. Funding a Days Gone 2 would have barely made a dent. WTF are Sony's top brass doing?
Yotei has been brilliant. I'm nearing the end and have loved pretty much every minute of it (with perhaps the exception of getting Revenant-ed by that damn bear). I pray that big-budget single-player experiences like this never go away.
Companies should exist for the benefit of its workforce and their dependents, not just the shareholders or wealthy owners. This is abhorrent and EA is a ***** disgrace. AI is rapidly becoming as big an existential threat as climate change.
Played the original on release. Some bits are majestic set-piece genius; others are tedious, repetitive trudge-fests. Never could get past the sodding Flood.
@Titntin Yep, with Switch 2 and PS5 Pro, I'm sorted. I had the original Xbox and poured hours and hours into the Xbox 360. But I switched loyalties when PS4 looked amazing and Xbox One was a complete duffer, and I've been on PlayStation ever since. MS might win me back with some super-duper console (plus some exclusives), but I'm Xbox-free for the time being. Besides I've only got so much free space in the unit under my TV.
@Striker21 I currently buy discs and sell them on, so they never really cost me the full amount. Also, I rarely play enough games a year to justify the monthly cost, but that may well change in the future. I just don’t need three consoles, and never really took to Game Pass.
This just helps justify selling my Xbox Series X (was up on eBay for less than three hours!). Great machine, but with a PS5 Pro, it was going unused, and now it seems MS has given up on exclusives so it would barely get used.
Loving it; can’t wait to get back in. Played for many hours, but haven’t yet taken any of the six down (after Snake). Still playing largely in the south, building my skills up, clearing camps and picking up bounties (there’s loads to do!). Had some really tricky fights, which I’ve had to attempt multiple times, but it’s really satisfying when you nail it. Definitely a test of my meagre skillset. Game looks lovely, loads to do, great variety, thoroughly engaging. Couldn’t ask for much more, really.
Glad to see this, both for physical releases and single-player games. Also, it makes a mockery of all the clickbait YouTube videos proclaiming it's dead, saying it's woke (for some reason I can't fathom) and calling it 'Ghost of Nobuy'. People will do and say anything to prostitute themselves on the alter of YouTube likes.
Turned up after lunch. Spent all afternoon installing snd downloading the patch. Then evening meal arrived. Now it’s Taskmaster, so wont be playing much tonight - and my other half is off tomorrow, stymying my TV hogging! Sigh.
Thoroughly enjoyed Tsushima, even though the difficulty level is all over the place, and it flattered to deceive: beneath the sumptuous graphics does lie a fairly rote open-world game, not that dissimilar to Assassin's Creed (as someone else mentioned above). The various little side-tasks/sub-games grew repetitive and it's shame that it's literally more of the same. Also, it's a bit worrying that the cooking aspect sounds totally irrelevant, as well as the inventory issues mentioned din the review. Not enough play-testing perhaps? Feels like another solid game hiding a missed opportunity to really push the genre forward.
Just one more reason to sell my Xbox Series X. If it wasn't for the Cyberpunk DLC (which I haven't got round to playing and regret spending £25 on) the box would have gone ages ago. Switch 2 and PS 5 Pro is all I need now.
Slightly disappointed there wasn't more innovation on show – felt like more of the same – and the stylised world still doesn't look better than AC: Shadows (the seasons and weather are amazing). But I'll pick it up for sure.
I can' image how it feels to have five, six, seven years of your life's work wiped out by the strike of an accountant's pen. I will never understand the financial imperative to cancel a game after thousands (potentially hundreds of thousands) of person-hours have been expended. My heart goes out to the developers affected.
Refreshing to see a medieval Chinese game not filled with supernatural demons. I'll wait for actually gameplay, but looks really interesting. I'm all about single player.
@MrPeanutbutterz the only thing stopping me from trading in the Series X is the Cyberpunk DLC that I bought. Starfield isn’t finished and, frankly, I doubt it ever will be. With so much now on PS5, the Xbox seems surplus to requirements.
Shadows is a cracking game, and by God it looks stunning on PS5 Pro. Absolutely sumptuous, especially during winter. I love Outlaws too. Must go back and finish it before my Switch 2 turns up.
Nah. Bounced off previous entries several times; found the gameplay loop a bit tedious to be honest. But if it's improved for VI I'll be happy to jump on board. It's obviously a masterpiece in terms of scale and visuals.
I foolishly bought the digital version of Starfield for £100, enamoured by the promise of early play, an open world space adventure, and my love of Skyrim. Never again. The game is mediocre and I can't even resell to recoup some of that money. At least with expense physical version you can always hit eBay or CEX at a later date.
Really enjoying Shadows (I’ve managed to block out all the stupid hatred), and if anyone was on the fence about Outlaws, the fully patched version is also great. Not quite finished yet, but played for many hours and thoroughly recommend it. Especially at non-launch prices. Long may Ubi Soft continue.
Playing on PS5 Pro and, my God, this is a beautiful looking game. I’m maybe four hours in and not even got to my first proper in-game mission destination – it’s all been prologue and tutorial stuff, but all thoroughly engaging. I now have to sit through crappy evening TV my other half wants to watch when I should be hacking my through feudal Japan. Sigh.
@BolkaRover Same with people arguing the Pro is terrible value for money or not worth it for the meagre visual upgrade. People have paid their money; stop trying to piss on everyone’s parade. Get a grip!
My copy is on its way. Having played every major AC instalment I’m keen to get back in the animus and carry on creeding. I love open worlds, and this one looks like a gorgeous land to get lost in and forget all the ***** going on in the real world. Happy days.
I’ll be playing AC:S tomorrow on PS5 Pro (after the day one patch of course). And really looking forward to it. The only downside being that the weather forecast looks good, so I might have to spend a bit of time soaking up some rays on the patio!
@RoomWithaMoose Okay, thanks. Don't really think it's my kind of game, although this version seems easier to beat than previous entries. There are other games I'll play first.
