Maybe if they had a play anywhere component like msft. I know its a big selling point for me since i can play on either xbox or my ally xbox x.
I have a portal and ps5 pro as well, so pulling from pc wont impact me that much, but itd be nice to be able to play the ps pc games on device as opposed to streamed
While I have no desire to play this one, I truly miss the days of secrets and unlockables in games.
Hidden fighters, bonus moves, special modes, etc... These things used to drive us to play more.(think mk1 or mk2) Now you just get access or know its there.
In the instance here, the only mistake was in advertising it. Id have left it out of all marketing so people could discover it.
@Kingy Ive had a bit more time to play the game and am now in the "they cut too much" camp.
I didnt even register the haven as being cut for some reason. That mechanic was optional and very fun. There have been other things that feel off now too.
I still love the easy mode options and quality of life improvements and its a very pretty game, but the cuts run a bit too deep for me.
@Gaia093 I love the idea of breezing through, the plot is important. I do require some level of progression though, so probably just the grinding limiters for me.(assuming i get motivated enough to retry the choco minigame in ch 11
@DTfearTheBEARD I have 3 65" + lg oleds in my house, all connected to various consoles. My ps5pro is connected to a g series from 2023, the others are both c series from post 2021.
@cainhurst94 I think you forgot a generation there. Some of us are neither, but older than millenialls.(I guess we really are the forgotten generation)
@Kingy I can understand your concerns on the difficulty, but as an old guy who has cleared the game on two platforms, I hope you can understand why I like reduction in difficulty and statues.
I turned everything down to easy as possible and am fully enjoying the game as more of an updated nostolgia trip. Id forgotten most of the game so its triggering a lot of memories without any stress. Im also breezing through t timewise.
I get why people might hate that, and they can turn it up to be more challenging. Having a hardcore or statue free mode would help with that I think.
As for the cut content, that sounds pretty extensive. Not sure il notice it as ive not played since the 3ds ver released, but i will notice if the plot feels like it has some holes.
Currently only on the 4th island, but its been beautiful and fun so far. (Playing back and forth between the xbox ally x and series x versions thanks to xpa, so not on my p5 for this one)
@Kingy Id argue "best" is very subjective here. Cutting of content can mean a more streamlined and understandable experience.
I liked the ps1 version, but loved the 3ds remake a lot more. Based on the prologue demo, id say this one is better than either of them, but, Id hold that conclusion until Ive played through the whole game and see how the adjusted/cut content impacts the overall flow and story. I already like the combat and qol improvements.
7 on 3ds was my favorite dq game. Honestly never thought of it as a time sink or as dragging on. It always felt brisk to me. 75 hours is quite short too for an old school rpg, I easily spent 100+ on classics like ff6 and ps3/ps4. (And well over 300 on diablo 4 more recently)
Point is, the episodic structure makes this game easy to jump in and out of while not requiring you to remember everything going on. Im very excited to get back into the dq7 world having played through the demo twice now(switch 2 and xbox ally x)
I have never been able to tell the difference between 30 and 60 or higher. I have my ally xbox x putting out high totals sometimes, but i usually end up putting up the quality and dropping fps back down to 30 since I get more utility that way.
With the ps5 pro and series x I always choose quality mode when available for the same reason.
All that said, Im the opposite as you, I wish I could tell the difference since Im always an early adopter of new tech.
I feel like COD games are always hit and miss, but the miss ones are usually reflected by a garbage/non-existent campaign.
Ex. I loved Ghosts, bought it 3 times. The campaign was great. BO4 was trash, no campaign, no fun. BO5(cold war)-6 were solid, had campaigns, BO7 was trash, campaign is there but it's horrible. Vanguard was garbage for the same reason, the campaign was awful.
Moral of the story, Make a good campaign for those of us who like campaigns and your game will sell. You will always sell to the MP players since they just want what's new.
Loved the original on xb1, never tried the new one on Ps4, but I imagine it's the same solid platformer. I am not really sure a native PS5 version will add much value to the game though, it was really pushing any envelopes as a title. Maybe add in some cool controller support.
Got mine day 1, its easily one of the better purchases this generation. As a busy father, most of my gaming is at night away from my PS5(or other consoles) and with my wife watching TV in the bedroom. The portal lets me get in some gaming when I am actually able to do it without having to go to the living room or media room.
It helps greatly that it's just an amazing device overall. I've yet to ever take it out of the house, but for a connected home device, it's almost as good as you get.
Ill say it, I loved anthem. It was great fun with friends for about 40-50 hours.
It had all the bones of an amazing title. Its downfall was that it didnt plan anywhere near enough content and what content was there was too easy to obtain via the broken progression system.
Its a pipe dream, but id love to see an anthem 2, but make it more like borderlands in terms of progression and content.
Only ff games i never finished were ffx-2, and the 3 ffxiii games.
Ive heard good things about ffxiii-3, but i loathed xiii so much i never bothered with the other 2. Ive tried 3 times years apart and in different platforms, i just cant stand the battle system. Made it to ch.11 last attempt where it opens up, still couldnt push myself to play.
Over the years I have asked about this series, having played the original legend of heroes games and more recently the remake they did of a trails game, and I always hear about how dialogue and lore heavy they are.
While this is true, I have been able to jump in and enjoy without issue essentially any of the games. I bought and played through Daybreak 2 without playing Daybreak 1 and never felt lost.
My point here is for those who read these who were like me and were put off by all the people saying you have to play all of them in order to enjoy them, don't be. You absolutely do not need to play every title, nor even the titles in order. You will benefit from playing them sequentially, and perhaps enjoy them more, but it is not by any means necessary.
To make an analogy, it's a bit like the original Star Wars trilogy. Say you watched The Empire Strikes Back first before watching A New Hope. You would still enjoy ESB, but would miss some of the added connections until you played them all. If anything, it would pique your curiosity and make you want to go back and play/watch the prior.
I cant comment on this most recent edition for Trails, but I do plan on playing it and enjoying it when its available, regardless of the fact I never played part 1. (or most of the previous titles in the series)
Ive worked on ai implementations within organizations for a few years and started with ML back in 2015 in the education sector. Level 5 has the right mindset here. Gen AI has the ability to exponentially expand the workers output as well as touch the lives of everyone in the world. (How many here use copilot, gemini, or an alternative daily? i know I do. )
60 hour crunch? Thats only 12 hour week days. Thats not a crunch, that's most work.
I was working 100 hour weeks when I was 18-22, then went down to about 60-70 once I got out of college. It's part of life and has been for ages. I think the youth today has a hard time understanding work hours.
(Note: Ive worked in IT, Education, Retail, and Marketing from Grunt to Executive in each. My wife also works F&B as a General Manager and easily puts in 80 hours a week.)
E33 is an amazing and beautiful game. I couldnt care less if it was made by skynet in an effort to control the masses for extermination, it was still beautiful.
I am a proponent of AI in games, as long as its done right. It has the ability to speed up development, improve quality overall, and improve our general experience as consumers.
In this instance, an icon that never would have been made was made(allegedly)because it didnt consume any real resources.
Its only going to be more and more until ai usage gets fleshed out.
I went in to the ps5 skeptical, not really liking sony as a hole. The console started off kinda meh outside of astro, but the updates and controls really grew on me. I upgraded to the pro and tacked on the portal and have ultimately really enjoyed the ps5 over the past couple of years.(i barely touched it the first few years. )
These days id label it a great console with a lot more room left to grow. An easy recommendation for new gamers.
@Martsmall While I dont know the specific percentage, I know MS is a major shareholder of open ai and almost certainly had a seat at the table of the ram purchase.
Which means they almost certainly calculated that the subsequent increase to other sectors costs was outweighed by the gains of this investment.
Not so much sony was smart and ms dumb as it is msft thinking globally vs sony thinking single product line.
Sucks for xbox gamers(of which i am one), but as a company, probably a good move on both ms and sony.
@SeaDaVie Why do you want CoD to die? They are essentially the only Michael Bay style scripted action campaigns left in the industry. BF6 was ok, but that is a rarity from BF.
A lot of us out there like the option to have a heavily scripted high quality gun ho shooter. Couldnt care less about the MP in it though.
@ElkinFencer10 I actually enjoyed ghosts campaign a lot. I typically buy CoD games explicitly for the campaigns, but everything I read on this one makes this an absolute no buy to me.
Japanese law is irrelevant globally. They can try and block sora 2 in japan, but not much else they can do outside of using the opt out system.
As for AI as a whole, Im a big proponent. As a consumer, the concept of infinite derivative works at my fingertips is great. And lets not forget, all work is derivative these days, nothing is truly new, its all based off/influenced by something. AI just removes the human in the iterative loop.
@Tobimune Meh, none of these games were ever online aside from a corporate only p2p link for wavenet.
Most of us old timers who grew up with these games also likely grew out of online mp. Atleast I know I have. Ive played a bit if every game now in the collection, watched some vids, but have 0 desire to even try online. Its an unnecessary addon to me
Loving the game, one I figured out how to make it wide screen, remove borders, and turn off any filters that is. I lived through the crt era and have no desire to go back. I am not fond of the grainy look.
That said, im playing on my xbox ally x via steam and the video parts are a bit buggy. Lots of random artifacts. Wondering if its a steam, game, or ally xbox x issue.
I hope it can to be honest. The idea that at some point in the future I could put in a prompt and ai would create a full game would be amazing.
Ex. Create a jrpg in space based with a star wars theme that has a runtime of 50-70 hours.
If it could build that in a few minutes and we could play, its be great. Wed still want human crafted games, but prompted ai could fill entire marketplaces.
I only buy these kind of games for the campaigns. Battlefield have had some really bad campaigns though recently, no generic story, just random levels which i hate. COD have been ok with the blops games, but i miss games like cod aw and ghosts.
I actually dont understand why people like playing the mp components, but thats just me.
Ive never watched people play games outside of mk2 in arcades in the early 90s. Never saw the draw.
That said, I know esports are a big draw these days and they can drive revenue.
In this instance though, I font think sf6 has the global viewership to do a ppv event, even if the fee removed ads(which im guessing it doesnt) so really, your paying to watch ad filled niche content. Id be interested if they do an about face closer to the event when numbers come in on ticket sales
Loved the game when it first came out, havent played in 25 years or so though until today. I opted for the switch 2 version for pure portability over the ps5 pro plus portal.
I will say though, its very much a niche game and many newer games do pieces of it better. The remaster though(3 hours in) holds its own.
@naruball You could be right, I could have sworn that EA published one of the early ones but its been a long while.
Edit: It was ported to the Genesis in 91 via EA. I had to look at the picture of the cart, but its clearly an EA game. I remember that eras carts because they had the silly yellow tab. I am not sure if it was published in non-north american regions by EA though.
I have a lot of fond memories of EA games. Dating back to the late 80s and early 90s era. Games like the bards tale, skate or die, Abrams battle tank, populous, kings bounty, might and magic, General Chaos, and on and on. And that's not including their sports lineup.
These days for me it's more Madden and NHL, but I imagine those will not be the same either after one or two more iterations.
Say what you will about EA, but they have a long history of titles, both good and bad, and have given gamers decades of content.
@RadioHedgeFund Yeah, borrowing against yourself to get bought out always works so well.....I had a feeling this was going to happen, and honestly Id say were probably only 3-5 years away from a piecemeal sell off of EA assets.
yeah, its not so much PIF that id be worried about, its Silverlake. Im sure EA would be great short run, it i can imagine sports getting split off, the various studios becoming a separate entity offloaded for a penny. All conjecture at this point ofcourse.
And yeah, Im stateside but an early riser. I imagine itll get roudy soon.
I dont really mind the who, its the what thet bothers me here. They are basically saying they want to apply a standard PE model here and extract the value from the company. Sounds great on paper, but as toysrus, kmart, sears, and many more have taught us, bad things happen.
1. Its not a rewards program and shouldnt be marketed as such in any way. Its incentive to buy exclusive gear through play. 2. If we think about #1 as fact, then its not so bad. It doesnt replace stars or rewards or any of the countless other programs shut down, but on its own and marketed as something other than a rewards program, its not terrible.

@nessisonett Based on the comments, it seems im not alone in wanting a graphic overhaul.
Id be happy with an overhauled mlb25 to be honest. Just fewer plastic looking players and stadiums
Re: MLB The Show 26 Pitches Lots of New Features and First PS5 Gameplay Footage
All good updates(on paper), but the game still needs a visual update.
Its not bad looking, just doesn't look much, if any better than the ps4 version from 10 years ago.
Im likely going to put off my annual purchase and go bi or tri annual like i do now with madden/nba2k.
I love baseball, but im more of a play some matches or the ultimate team mode(forget the name for the show version) than playing from hs onward.
That said, im sure itl be great as it is every year.
Re: Dragon Quest VII Reimagined (PS5) - A Tip-Top Remake of a Once Tedious RPG

I actually dont understand why people like playing the mp components, but thats just me.
Re: Fans Left Speechless as Capcom Locks Street Fighter 6 Finals Behind Paywall
Ive never watched people play games outside of mk2 in arcades in the early 90s. Never saw the draw.
That said, I know esports are a big draw these days and they can drive revenue.
In this instance though, I font think sf6 has the global viewership to do a ppv event, even if the fee removed ads(which im guessing it doesnt) so really, your paying to watch ad filled niche content. Id be interested if they do an about face closer to the event when numbers come in on ticket sales
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles?
Day 1 pickup for me. Which was...today.
Loved the game when it first came out, havent played in 25 years or so though until today. I opted for the switch 2 version for pure portability over the ps5 pro plus portal.
I will say though, its very much a niche game and many newer games do pieces of it better. The remaster though(3 hours in) holds its own.
Re: Mega Publisher EA Agrees to $55 Billion Buyout by Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake, Affinity Partners
Re: Mega Publisher EA Agrees to $55 Billion Buyout by Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake, Affinity Partners
Re: Mega Publisher EA Agrees to $55 Billion Buyout by Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake, Affinity Partners
@RadioHedgeFund Yeah, borrowing against yourself to get bought out always works so well.....I had a feeling this was going to happen, and honestly Id say were probably only 3-5 years away from a piecemeal sell off of EA assets.
Re: Publisher EA Poised to Go Private as 'Advanced Talks' of $50 Billion Buyout Emerge
@rjejr Ahh, KB, I recall that mess.
yeah, its not so much PIF that id be worried about, its Silverlake. Im sure EA would be great short run, it i can imagine sports getting split off, the various studios becoming a separate entity offloaded for a penny. All conjecture at this point ofcourse.
And yeah, Im stateside but an early riser. I imagine itll get roudy soon.
Re: Publisher EA Poised to Go Private as 'Advanced Talks' of $50 Billion Buyout Emerge
I dont really mind the who, its the what thet bothers me here. They are basically saying they want to apply a standard PE model here and extract the value from the company. Sounds great on paper, but as toysrus, kmart, sears, and many more have taught us, bad things happen.
Re: PlayStation's New 'Rewards' Program Goes Down Like a Lead Balloon
I have 2 thoughts on this program.
