I went in to the ps5 skeptical, not really liking sony as a hole. The console started off kinda meh outside of astro, but the updates and controls really grew on me. I upgraded to the pro and tacked on the portal and have ultimately really enjoyed the ps5 over the past couple of years.(i barely touched it the first few years. )
These days id label it a great console with a lot more room left to grow. An easy recommendation for new gamers.
@Martsmall While I dont know the specific percentage, I know MS is a major shareholder of open ai and almost certainly had a seat at the table of the ram purchase.
Which means they almost certainly calculated that the subsequent increase to other sectors costs was outweighed by the gains of this investment.
Not so much sony was smart and ms dumb as it is msft thinking globally vs sony thinking single product line.
Sucks for xbox gamers(of which i am one), but as a company, probably a good move on both ms and sony.
@SeaDaVie Why do you want CoD to die? They are essentially the only Michael Bay style scripted action campaigns left in the industry. BF6 was ok, but that is a rarity from BF.
A lot of us out there like the option to have a heavily scripted high quality gun ho shooter. Couldnt care less about the MP in it though.
@ElkinFencer10 I actually enjoyed ghosts campaign a lot. I typically buy CoD games explicitly for the campaigns, but everything I read on this one makes this an absolute no buy to me.
Japanese law is irrelevant globally. They can try and block sora 2 in japan, but not much else they can do outside of using the opt out system.
As for AI as a whole, Im a big proponent. As a consumer, the concept of infinite derivative works at my fingertips is great. And lets not forget, all work is derivative these days, nothing is truly new, its all based off/influenced by something. AI just removes the human in the iterative loop.
@Tobimune Meh, none of these games were ever online aside from a corporate only p2p link for wavenet.
Most of us old timers who grew up with these games also likely grew out of online mp. Atleast I know I have. Ive played a bit if every game now in the collection, watched some vids, but have 0 desire to even try online. Its an unnecessary addon to me
Loving the game, one I figured out how to make it wide screen, remove borders, and turn off any filters that is. I lived through the crt era and have no desire to go back. I am not fond of the grainy look.
That said, im playing on my xbox ally x via steam and the video parts are a bit buggy. Lots of random artifacts. Wondering if its a steam, game, or ally xbox x issue.
I hope it can to be honest. The idea that at some point in the future I could put in a prompt and ai would create a full game would be amazing.
Ex. Create a jrpg in space based with a star wars theme that has a runtime of 50-70 hours.
If it could build that in a few minutes and we could play, its be great. Wed still want human crafted games, but prompted ai could fill entire marketplaces.
I only buy these kind of games for the campaigns. Battlefield have had some really bad campaigns though recently, no generic story, just random levels which i hate. COD have been ok with the blops games, but i miss games like cod aw and ghosts.
I actually dont understand why people like playing the mp components, but thats just me.
Ive never watched people play games outside of mk2 in arcades in the early 90s. Never saw the draw.
That said, I know esports are a big draw these days and they can drive revenue.
In this instance though, I font think sf6 has the global viewership to do a ppv event, even if the fee removed ads(which im guessing it doesnt) so really, your paying to watch ad filled niche content. Id be interested if they do an about face closer to the event when numbers come in on ticket sales
Loved the game when it first came out, havent played in 25 years or so though until today. I opted for the switch 2 version for pure portability over the ps5 pro plus portal.
I will say though, its very much a niche game and many newer games do pieces of it better. The remaster though(3 hours in) holds its own.
@naruball You could be right, I could have sworn that EA published one of the early ones but its been a long while.
Edit: It was ported to the Genesis in 91 via EA. I had to look at the picture of the cart, but its clearly an EA game. I remember that eras carts because they had the silly yellow tab. I am not sure if it was published in non-north american regions by EA though.
I have a lot of fond memories of EA games. Dating back to the late 80s and early 90s era. Games like the bards tale, skate or die, Abrams battle tank, populous, kings bounty, might and magic, General Chaos, and on and on. And that's not including their sports lineup.
These days for me it's more Madden and NHL, but I imagine those will not be the same either after one or two more iterations.
Say what you will about EA, but they have a long history of titles, both good and bad, and have given gamers decades of content.
@RadioHedgeFund Yeah, borrowing against yourself to get bought out always works so well.....I had a feeling this was going to happen, and honestly Id say were probably only 3-5 years away from a piecemeal sell off of EA assets.
yeah, its not so much PIF that id be worried about, its Silverlake. Im sure EA would be great short run, it i can imagine sports getting split off, the various studios becoming a separate entity offloaded for a penny. All conjecture at this point ofcourse.
And yeah, Im stateside but an early riser. I imagine itll get roudy soon.
I dont really mind the who, its the what thet bothers me here. They are basically saying they want to apply a standard PE model here and extract the value from the company. Sounds great on paper, but as toysrus, kmart, sears, and many more have taught us, bad things happen.
1. Its not a rewards program and shouldnt be marketed as such in any way. Its incentive to buy exclusive gear through play. 2. If we think about #1 as fact, then its not so bad. It doesnt replace stars or rewards or any of the countless other programs shut down, but on its own and marketed as something other than a rewards program, its not terrible.
This is MS basically throwing in the hardware towel. They already caved by going multi with there library, now they just keep increasing the price until sales equal 0 and then kill it and noone notices.
Im not opposed to ms going multi, and I fully understand the need to pass on the cost of tariffs imposed by the baboon, but there is a point where it just doesnt make sense to operate and id say were nearing that point.
I know I wont be replacing either of my series consoles at the current prices should one break.
I have a ps pro as well but rarely play it. My switch 2 gets all my time these days, but even that felt too expensive.
Gaming has always been expensive, but there was always mainstream options to lower cost. Now it feels like mainstream is expensive.
Can they add these to the second entry instead? There was so much tedium on it that I grew tired and never bothered finishing it. If they made all attacks max out id probably want to finish the game. (Im on chapter 9)
@RoomWithaMoose I second this. Also an American who has yet to see anything other than increased prices as a result of these glorious and perfect tariffs.....
I see this as a win for consumers. We all have our preferences on console, whether its for the controllers, ux, online, or games.
Remove exclusives and we have one less thing to worry about when it comes time to buy. ( I buy em all, but thats likely coming to an end after this gen and Im happy for it)
@lazarus11 A bit of a twist there. I mean Ill be done with gaming by the time gamepass is gone. (Ie im getting old and gaming is becoming less of a priority in my freetime, kids, likely grandkids in 5-10 years or less, retirement, etc...)
Gamepass does extend my gaming by allowing me to try many games id never bother with, but even that will only go so far.
@DaveTheRave I dont need the illusion of ownership physical brings. Ive been all digital since it was feasible in the 00s. Gamepass is like renting, but with first party games its eternal renting and with third party it often leads to a purchase, though not as much recently as I just dont have time to play. (I may even let my sub lapse as I am my ps+ premium this year.)
@SeaDaVie You can say its a short term victory, but Ive been winning since gamepass launched 8 years ago and I dont see it ending anytime soon. Eventually itll evolve, but by that time Ill probably be done with gaming as a whole. So not really concerned about short term vs long term.
Honestly, the industry is due for another early 80s style crash. A good old fashioned reset. I just hope its in about 10 years or so when Im in some retirement community playing pickleball and shuffleboard.
I much prefer forza to GT, especially the most recent iteration.
Any news of forza shutting down basically leaves me with no mild sim options worth playing. (I have put 40+ hours into gt7, but lost all interest in it where as 300+ hours into forza and I still play regularly) Other options have been terrible, assetto and its ilk are too limited in scale and scope and lean too far into sim land)
As a multiplatform owner, I really couldnt care less where games are released. It does nothing but give people, including myself, more options. Its especially beneficial in games like Hell Divers which get better with higher player counts.
I already have Hell Divers 2 on PS5 Pro, but making it available to Xbox can only help.
Id personally like to see more cross platform games from 1st parties. I bought MLB the show 25 this year on Switch 2, Ill likely repurchase Forza horizon 5 on PS5 during the next sale.
Rematch? Never heard of it until this article. And not surprising to see the region totals. I, like many americans, have no affinity towards soccer, but do love shooting things. So seeing rematch at 4 in the NA charts, but 1 in the eu charts and ds 2 at 1 in NA makes conplete sense.
Like xbl, been there since day 1. I had a 1 day gap last year when I was going to cancel and they offered me a low price. This year will probably be my last regardless of price simply because I dont use it. Still think it has great value for people with more time or who are more social, but for me I can count on one hand how many minutes in 2025 ive logged into ps+ games or used online features.
Too beautiful? In my experience most asians just use beauty filter on every photo. The skin isnt nearly as blemish free as he insinuates.
Note that my experience is 16 years in japan, hk, and china as well as being married to an asian and having mixed children. I love asia and its people, but the idea that they cant be reflected in media without it feeling like cgi is silly.
Im confused as to how people are gaining any value from having over 20 games on a wishlist, let alone 100 or 200.
I use my wishlist to flag games I have a strong interest in playing but no interest in paying full price or upcoming titles i want to buy. I cant recall ever going over 10 on a platform.
If it gets too big it becomes convoluted and the odds of me buying anything are slim to none making it useless. I will often prune games ive lost interest in aa well. Only so much time in a day to play.
All that said, always interesting to see how others use these features.
Been a premium sub since it launched, but thatll change this year. I dont play online and I cant recall the last ps plus game i played more than a few minutes.
Its certainly a value if you use it, but otherwise its kinda meh.
Additionally, for me, they are adding things like sony core or whatever the movie thing is called, but those films are already on other services. It feels like they keep reducing quality titles as well at a time when gamepass is crushing it.(ie not last year when gp was in a rut)
I love January because horror movies are abundant. I love the silent hill games. What I didnt love was the first silent hill movie. Hopefully this one is done better because the first one was very rough. Only thing it was missing was treat williams, former king of b rate films.(RIP Treat)
Got this on switch 2, but applies here as well. This one surprised me. Not my kind of game normally, but i find myself playing it a lot. Very happy to see the continued support.
Never understood either last of us games. Ive tried so hard to get into them but they are so slow and dull(to me) Just cant get hooked. TV show was the same, 3 episodes and I couldnt take anymore.
I know so many absolutely adore the game so understand it obviously resonates with people. Just not this person.
Ive owned all the ps consoles(and hand helds), but not really a sony fan. Always preferred the others. Ps5 originally was an ornament until the portal came out, and it became a steady play for me. Then the pro came out and its become easily my favorite sony console to date. I had so many issues with the ps 1 - ps3 i didnt bother with the ps4 until the ps4 pro came out. Which was my previous favorite sony console.
All this is to say, I think sony has a good console this time around. Still not my favorite(yet, its gaining), but i play it more than any sony platform before it.
As for profit bragging, even if the numbers werent bloated, they are not something consumers should be celebrating. Shareholders, yes, customers though? Just means sony has increased there margins
I have premium but I cancel every year. They offer me original pricing and I cave, but honestly im not sure ill bite this year. I never use online and my portal is local to local only, so outside of a couple plays a year, I dont really use it.
Im not saying its not a good value though, for what it offers it can potentially be a great value. (Both essentials and premium), I just dont need it for my current lifestyle.
His statement is a bit confusing. Is he implying graphics must be cutting edge for one to have a "great experience"
To me graphics are a bonus, but not the definition of a great experience. I love my ps5 pro as much as I do my switch 2, switch oled, or series x|s. They all provide great experiences.

@Skippermonkey The sole purpose of a corporation is to earn a profit. The means to get there is where regulation comes in to play.
I love the idea that a company is there to benefit the worker, but thats just not the case.
Re: EA's Game Development Is Very Quickly Becoming an AI-Driven Hellscape, Report Claims

Sooner people realize ai is here to stay and is a great way to augment your talents the better.

And this is a day 1 for me. Been itching to replay the older mk games and they are bot on new consoles. Now they will be.

Re: Fans Can't Believe PS5 Has Made More Profit Than All Previous PlayStations Combined
Re: 38% of PS Plus Members Are Paying More for Extra, Premium
I have premium but I cancel every year. They offer me original pricing and I cave, but honestly im not sure ill bite this year. I never use online and my portal is local to local only, so outside of a couple plays a year, I dont really use it.
Im not saying its not a good value though, for what it offers it can potentially be a great value. (Both essentials and premium), I just dont need it for my current lifestyle.
Re: Switch 2 Can't Achieve a Great Experience on Big Screens, PS5 Boss Implies
His statement is a bit confusing. Is he implying graphics must be cutting edge for one to have a "great experience"
To me graphics are a bonus, but not the definition of a great experience. I love my ps5 pro as much as I do my switch 2, switch oled, or series x|s. They all provide great experiences.
