I always buy every forza game day 1 with the complete editions on Xbox regardless of my gpu sub. Outside of Forza 5(not horizon), they have never failed me.
Despite having put hundreds of hours into horizon 5 on xbox already, I intend to do the same here and run through the game again. They are that good. Itll easily be the best racing game on ps5.
@PuppetMaster Not as much as you think. Back then production values and teams were much lower/smaller. A large team in the 90s would be a smaller to medium sized team today. Add in the efficiency gains over the past 3 decades and he could likely piece together a similar title with better production value at a relatively reasonable price and with a much smaller team.
@tangyzesty How as it annoying being on GP? It saved me money on what amounted to barely iterative releases. I loved the idea of it being on GP. Even if it hadnt benefited me(I own all platforms), Id be happy for those who did get to enjoy the game on GP.
Unless they revamp the gameplay(and visuals), ill be skipping this year. Madden and NBA2k have really upped there game recently in those areas, but MLB still feels like a launch PS4 game. I love baseball and it isnt a bad game to so to say, but I cant see myself buying it if its like the last 2 seasons. Hopefully they come out with their A game this year.
@wiiware Only if you break there t&c. If your doing that, its a just reward for breaking you end of the agreement. (By purchasing and using the console and games you are agreeing to the terms)
I stopped buying physical like 20 years ago. It was a taper though as storage and internet speeds had to catch up.
Now its so much faster to just click and dl a game than to wait for a box. (I have a 5gbs uncapped connection, so im only limited by device speeds)
The only real reasons to buy physical are a) because you collect the special editions or b) you are interested in resale. I have no interest in either scenario so digital suits me well.
I think its great that MSFT is likely releasing Starfield on PS5.
Im also of the opinion that exclusives only help hardware manufacturers, not the consumer. I am a consumer, not a manufacturer so from my perspective, the more the merrier on each platform. This puts a real choice in the hands of consumers as opposed to "I have to buy x for y and a for b"
Put the onus on the hardware manufacturer to create unique and quality features for their platform as opposed to hoarding games.
Side note: I buy all consoles and would likely do so even in a world where there were no exclusives. I like to change it up from time to time.
I remember buying this day 1 on the sega cd. Blew my mind away(lunar 1 and lunar 2). Then again a few years later with the complete editions. My only gripe is that while 2 complete was an improvement all around, part 1 complete was a step back in some areas. The plot changes in particular removed the drama and hurt the story a bit. I wish a remaster would restore the original story but retain the enhancements.
@SuntannedDuck2 Im not an avid ps fan(i prefer the xbox) nor do i have time to play a lot of games anymore. My generation grew up on games with the nes though and at this time generally has a lot of disposable income, so we get the nicer tvs and dont stress over a $700 console whether i need it(i didnt) or not.
Gaming is different because when we were kids and the 3do was out(i had one and a neo geo, but worked all summer to get them as a teen. Now its more of a passive kneejerk purchase where as there were very few doing that in the 80s-90s.
So id say normal people are buying the pro, just that there is a different level of customer that wasnt as prevalent before.
I have all of 0 physical games for my pro, 1 disk movie(john wick), and yet found myself ordering this. Arrived today, looks like crap on the pro(its not level if you lay your console flat), but atleast i dont have to think about getting a disk drive if i end up wanting a collectors edition of a game.
@Nyne11Tyme Depends on your driving habits. 99% of my driving for a day is in city and under 200 miles, so i target 300 mile range vehicles to get a buffer so i never have to charge outside of my home. My second car is always a gas or phev and when we go on trips its the go to.
Ive got an ev i paid over 80k for and its been worth every penny. (Ive another luxury gas suv as well for my wife)
I love evs not so much for cost, but for convenience and comfort. I never charge outside, just go. So no gas station visits and fewer maintenaince calls(though tires wear a lot faster)
If this turns out to actually be a solid vehicle(ie good range, quick, super quiet, high tech, and extremely comfortable) id have no issues paying 90-100k for one.
That said, there is a lot of competition for my money and the bmw, cadillac, and audi offerings are all solid. (The mercedes is too ugly, hummer akward looking)
Ive got a pro with a couple of extra tb added on for good measure, so no concerns either way. The title of the article though had me expecting 300gb or more.
I can with certainty say I have never in 40 years of gaming made a decision to buy a game based on a user review.
Im even less likely to do so now with inflated or deflated scores being the norm. Just feels to me like a lot of people wasting their time to make a little number go down.
Thing about being portable though is that they only need to match the resolution of the screen. For the steam deck, thats 720p. No reason to render any higher unless docked and on a large tv.
Hopefully they go for a 1080p screen like the portal, makes a huge difference over the steam deck or switch.
@Titntin Same with me, its a house only device and with my internet being solid, its never had an issue regardless of where I am in the home. I love the portal way more than I ever thought I would.
@colt45z I wish, this would have saved me from buying the mediocre sony earbuds and allowed me to use one of the several pairs of good earbuds I have laying around.
Ill also note that there is no apparent advantage to the earbuds either, all that latency crap is utter nonsense. The sony ones are not even noise cancelling.
@Rich33 Agree with most points, however, disagree on the story part. I am firmly in the camp of having them change the story. I know the original story, played it when it came out, and many times since. Im tired of the original story. Mix it up and bring us something fresh. Not saying im sold on this story, just that I am happy they made adjustments.
As for it being too blurry to play, it was always fine in fidelity mode. You dont need 60fps on an RPG. I have a pro now as well, so its the best of both worlds, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking it was bad before outside of just the unnecessary perf mode.
Maybe if it wasn't a minigame simulator it'd sell better.
I bought it at launch as usual, but I tired of the format around chapter 9. I just can't bring myself to burn through the game and certainly can't recommend it to anyone.
To be clear, its not a bad game, its constant minigames really wear you down.
@ATaco Kind of different use cases in my opinion. I have both a steam deck and a portal. The deck is too bulky for most things but allows you to play untethered for the most part. The portal, at least for me, is an accessory I can use to play in a more agile way at home. My portal has never left my house, but my deck has been in a lot of places.
This is perfect example of my play. I don't play PS5(or any games) until I am off work and have the kids in bed. This is right around 8:45-9pm. I love gaming, but life just doesn't allow me to play as much as I used to. The portal is an amazing device for playing in bed before you sleep.
Picked this up but its been backlogged for a bit. Waiting on the pro patch to clean things up a bit. I personally love bloobers works, so am quite excited to actually run through the game.
If anything, we need more players in the market using more open hardware standards. Eventually well get to a point where consoles are just PCs and run the same games from the same media(ie. buy once and play on any console or pc), then the console makers will have to compete on quality of hardware, accessories, OS, and Storefronts.
Can I get a "I dont have time to get good" difficulty option? I played the demo/trial and its fun, but i lack the time to put into actually progressing in the game.
This update does appear to address the map atleast.
If you watch more than play than your not a gamer, your a watcher.
Im a bit older, so maybe its an age thing, but I never understood watching others play. Even as a kid in the 80s and early 90s when arcades were popular, I couldnt stand watching people play.
I know people are big into esports and whatever now, i just cant understand why.
Ive been trying to understand this "game". What exactly is it? Is it just a life sim with an anime girl? It seems like so much hype for something so....mundane.
I cant really tell the difference outside of a few new shiny effects in patched games. Im not upset though as its exactly as I expected. I was able to offset nearly the entire cost by selling my digital ps5 with ssd and purchasing the pro via 15x rewards points on the ps credit card.(total cost wound up being about $150)
Would I recommend it? At this time, probably not unless your framerate sensitive(which I am not), however I am happy with it.
I haven't played El Viento since it was released 3 decades ago. I have some fond memories of it. I never played the other 2, but id definitely be up for this if it was released stateside.
@FuzzieGinge88 These days though, most of is would just not play anymore. I know I cant be bothered to play games that dont respect my time. Its a hobby, and as such is quite a bit lower in priority than other parts of life. When I was younger and had more time, sure. I put hundreds of hours into beating ghouls n ghosts on the genesis when it came out. Stupid deaths and all. However, those are not fond memories.
In this particular instance though, they appear to have taken away a mechanic without the option to bring it back, so I can understand being annoyed a little.
Id been meaning to pick this up for a while, but the stealth was a big sticking point.
With this patch and the black friday sale, i finally pulled the trigger and am happy i did. Its a fun game. I dont much care for the lead character, but the world itself after 5 hours is enjoyable and rich.
The draw is simple. It affords one the time to game when life is busy and other things sit at a higher priority.
I have 3 large oleds in my home(ranging from 65-77") a media room, and multiple high end audio setups to pair along with my xboxes and ps5 pro. I also have a more than capable gaming rig. Yet at my age with my career and my family life, time is a luxury I just do not have.
Enter portable gaming. I play most of my games on 3 devices. The ps portal linked to my ps5 pro, the switch oled, and the steam deck synching to gamepass and my series x via xbplay. All are played primarily from my bed before i sleep.
Its not that I dont have the space or the setups, its just I lack the time. (Also the older i get the earlier i sleep.)
Never question others reasons, in the end its all about priorities and sleep/family/work are mine. Just like gaming may be yours.
No chance. I have a steam deck and a ps portal. I love my portal and am not super thrilled with my deck.
Reason is simple, the deck is too bulky to be useful. Its like holding a brick with a screen.
For a portable to be good it needs a good battery and to be lightweight.
Unfortunately these run opposite of the idea of being a capable portable device at this time. Games require power which requires bigger batteries which create weight which makes portables with power bulky.
Until thats fixed, ive no interest in a portable outside of the portal/switch
Sony is just following a sales pattern. They want people locked in to pay more later, so it makes sense to not make the sale available to existing subs. Im guessing those that get it and are subbed are like I was and coming up to a subscription renewal.
This Sept I had cancelled autopay and planned on being completely unsubbed for the first time since ps+ launched its paid sub. It got to the day of renewal for me and they sent a notice offering me 30% to stay. (I wont pay more than $120 a year for ps+ in its current state, though it has been improving)
So just a hunch, but my guess is that its not random, but rather calculated based on risk of loss.
@johnedwin Ive been playing mine on the portal(via ps5 pro), where it plays great. Hoping it gets a patch for those on switch where I have also heard its less than optimal.
Game is really good and covers all bases. The easy mode removes the stress if you want just the story and leveling mechanics, the other modes offer the grindiness and challenge of the original but with lots of qualify of life improvements. One of my favorite games this year and definitely my favorite remaster of the year.
I cant really tell the difference. Is it the haze that people are upset about? I guess if anything, its a bit blurry for my taste, but that could just be the video.
I hate the idea of choosing here. If I had to choose 1, I'd just quite gaming. AAA titles are just as important to me as indie titles and everything in between. I just dont play one type of game based on cost to produce. I like my Call of Duty Campaigns, but also enjoy indie rpgs like sea of stars. I like my AAA sports games like MLB the show and madden, but also enjoy puzzle games like picczle lines.
So short answer is, I support whatever I enjoy, regardless of who makes it and how much it costs to produce.

East coast US, its down and sadly includes portal access to my local ps5 pro as well.

Im a bit saddened by the lower than expected sales, but such is the way these days.
Re: Shuhei Yoshida Reels Off List of Reasons the PS Vita Bombed
2 biggest for me were the touch panel and memory cards, both of which he touched on.
The oled was required and worth the price of admission.

I cant really tell the difference. Is it the haze that people are upset about? I guess if anything, its a bit blurry for my taste, but that could just be the video.
Re: Do You Really Want Devs to Make Lower Budget, More Original Games for PS5?
I hate the idea of choosing here. If I had to choose 1, I'd just quite gaming. AAA titles are just as important to me as indie titles and everything in between. I just dont play one type of game based on cost to produce. I like my Call of Duty Campaigns, but also enjoy indie rpgs like sea of stars. I like my AAA sports games like MLB the show and madden, but also enjoy puzzle games like picczle lines.
So short answer is, I support whatever I enjoy, regardless of who makes it and how much it costs to produce.
