Maybe There Is Still Hope for the Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy on PS5, After All 1

These days, you can play almost all the Final Fantasy games in some form on the PS5.

Perhaps the biggest absentee is the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy, which for PlayStation players remains restricted to the PS3 hardware.

To its credit, Microsoft offers upgraded versions of Lightning’s adventures on the Xbox Series X|S, but this doesn’t help PS5 owners who want to revisit these divisive releases.

But hope Square Enix could one day bring them back has certainly increased on the back of a new interview with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi.

As part of the discussion, it’s noted that Final Fantasy 6 is generally the most influential entry in the series among game creators.

But, as translated by Genki on X (or Twitter), Hamaguchi points out that as younger creators join the company, that sentiment is changing:

“As newer people join the company, lately younger employees are saying to me they liked FF13 when they were kids, so I feel the passing of time.”

Final Fantasy 13 first released in 2009, of course, so it’s natural that employees born in the late 90s would have nostalgia for that particular entry. We’re sure the same applies to many of you reading this, too.

While we accept this trilogy of games is far from the best, we remain hopeful Square Enix puts out some kind of port, because it’s a shame these games remain stuck on the PS3 for fans in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Hopefully this new generation of staff can pitch the idea, and get the publisher to port them over.
