Re: Some of The Callisto Protocol's Death Animations Are Locked Behind the Season Pass

Ron22

I don't understand the logistics of this.
What happens if you fall victim to a certain hazard or enemy without the battle pass?

Does it just cut to black?
Does it not animate?

Or are these animations limited to the new modes (Grounded and Horde) so it doesn't matter? If that's the case, most people save Grounded and Horde until after the Story, meaning they'll be more competent players meaning their odds of seeing death animations go down anyway.

I am confused.

Re: Talking Point: Did Summer Game Fest: Kickoff Live Blow You Away?

Ron22

Objectively speaking: It was a great, well paced and produced show.
"Games that appeal to me personally" speaking: 1/10. Nothing shown was my cup of tea, but I still enjoyed watching it because of the excitement and how nicely it was put together.

Don't know how much of my meh feeling can be blamed on Geoff, really. Microsoft, Nintendo, and the other publishers are saving the big titles for their own presentations, naturally.

Re: God of War Gets Full PS5 Support with 4K 60FPS Patch Coming Tomorrow

Ron22

I already have a Platinum for this game and I still don't have a PS5. That being said, this is good news. I'm happy for everyone else.

@QueenOfHearts38 @AFCC
I'm not sure if TLOU2 is getting a patch. I wouldn't complain if it did, but I just assumed the game would be re-sold for the PS5 with the Multiplayer built in. Maybe, I'm just being cynical.

Re: New Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Trailer Is One of Its Best

Ron22

I'm on the fence. On one hand, this looks awesome. On the other hand, I've never been a huge fan of RPGs. Oblivion, Fallout 3, even Deus Ex couldn't hang on to my interests for more than 10 hours. My purchase may come down to how bored I am over Christmas holiday.

Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 for a Brand New PS5 Game?

Ron22

On one hand, $70 isn't a tiny amount of money, but on the other hand, doesn't the price of almost everything else that costs money go up in price on an almost annual basis? Are we not lucky that games stayed $60 for as long as they have in the first place?

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@USNveteranAZ

This one man single-handedly killed their mentor, their leader, a good deal of the rest of the group, leading to their disbanding and eliminated their one hope for permanently ending the pandemic. That's plenty of incentive even when you don't take into account that Abby has a very personal connection with the head surgeon.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@carlos82 I would've preferred more sections like that sprinkled throughout the game, but I'm kind of glad the game as a whole was linear. That section was exhausting (in a good way, for sure), but I fear it wouldn't have worked the entire time.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@OmegaStriver Abby doesn't know that. And if Ellie had tried to explain, I doubt Abby would've bought that someone as capable as Ellie had just demonstrated in that boss fight was unable to disable someone that's visible pregnant without killing them.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@roe Running through Santa Barbara as Ellie was my favorite part of the game. The game didn't care about that group either because it really doesn't matter. Ellie makes a note of that in her journal. Just another group killing people for misguided reasons. People suck. Ellie was about to be just another one of those people until she let Abby go on the beach.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@OmegaStriver Eye for an Eye. Abby had no way of knowing that Ellie didn't know that Mel was pregnant. Her jacket was open when Abby found her and anyone who isn't legally blind could tell Mel was pregnant. Abby was simply doing what she thought Ellie did.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

@johncalmc I agree with this. When I realized Abby was going to be the second half (It dawned on me in the Home Depot-esque building when I saw a full skill tree), I was like "Oh, this is weird, but let's see where they are going with this", but it seems like others were "NO! Where's Ellie!?" and shut down for the entire half.

Re: Talking Point: The Last of Us 2 Spoilers Discussion

Ron22

I'm on board with this game. I wouldn't cut anything, but I wonder if the game would be better if they re-arranged things. Like instead of Ellie's 3 days, then Abby's 3 days, perhaps they should've done Day 1: Ellie-Abby, Day 2: Ellie-Abby, etc.
Aside from that, this game is ace.

Re: The Hardest PS4 Platinum Trophies

Ron22

I love Naughty Dog games as much as the next guy, but am I the only one that thinks half of their trophies are just busy work and random dares that they made on a drunken night?

I'm looking forward to June 19th, but I fully anticipating facepalming when I check the Trophy List.

Re: PS5 Unreal Engine 5 Gameplay Demo Finally Shows Us What Next-Gen Games Look Like

Ron22

@roe @Ralizah

Did people always hate squeezing this much? I haven't heard of people knocking it until Cerny told them it was cool.

But like you said, this was impressive. Some people are disappointed since "it's just an engine, and not a real game", but it was a big announcement. People keep saying that the jump to next-gen won't be as big as the jump from PS3 to PS4, and they're probably right...but it's nice to see there will definitely be a difference.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Story DLC Reveal Coming Tomorrow

Ron22

The game has 3 endings and this DLC is based off the one I didn't see. A problem solved by Youtube and five spare minutes? Sure. But it's still annoying. This is why I prefer games with one ending, or at least, make it perfectly clear which ending is the "real" one.

In spite of what I just typed, I'm actually kind of excited for this. I like Mortal Kombat 11, but I don't like going online. A fighting game with Single Player DLC? Yes, please!

Re: Rumour: Watch Dogs Legion Will Be a PS5 Launch Game

Ron22

Not too hyped about this title to be honest. The best part about Watch Dogs 2 was Marcus, his crew, and their friendship. Not saying I was expecting him back, but when the my favorite part of the last game was the protagonist(s) and their development, and the selling point for this game is "NO PROTAGONIST", I'm firmly in the "Wait and See" camp.

Re: PS5 Should Bring an End to Disguised Loading Screens

Ron22

@beavis64

Even with no Fast Travel (something Uncharted never had), an Uncharted game with no Boosting and no squeezing just because they don't need them to load anymore seems off. A crumbling, ancient civilization with nothing caved in and every ladder and staircase intact? This wouldn't ruin the game at all, obviously, but it would be a curious detail.
Also, Watch Dogs 2 is one of my favorite games. I wouldn't mind at all if that kind of Open World game has anytime Fast Travel.

Re: PS5 Should Bring an End to Disguised Loading Screens

Ron22

@futureshark @beavis64

I thought Watch Dogs 2 let you fast travel from anywhere as soon as you got past the Intro Mission. I only used it when they asked me to drive across the entire map for a mission because Fast Traveling everywhere is the best way to miss out on side missions and funny world events and dialogue.

In any case, hidden loading screens can be obvious (an unusually long hallway, an elevator ride, a door that takes 10 seconds to open when every other door takes 2, etc), but I never noticed it in God of War or Uncharted. In those games, squeezing through openings and boosting each other is natural given the themes and settings of the stories. Wouldn't the games make less sense if they were completely stripped out?

Re: Naughty Dog Underfire for Intense Crunch Culture Once More

Ron22

@youreyesonly00:
I feel like this would help too. When The Last of Us Part II was reveled in at the end of 2016(!), everyone (or maybe just me) assumed it would be out in a couple of years, because why would the reveal something they had only just started working on? Holy-- that's exactly what they did, isn't it? -_-.
If our first glimpse of this game was at E3 2018, would fans have said "Pssh, I'm not buying this now! You should've given us a vague trailer two years ago!"?

You can't really "shadow drop" a AAA title of this caliber because too much money is at stake, but three years is NOT necessary.

Re: Naughty Dog Underfire for Intense Crunch Culture Once More

Ron22

The passage in the article that broke my brain:

"Many development studios try to solve problems like these with a production department—the part of the team dedicated to organization, logistics, and communication. It’s a producer’s job to keep track of what people are working on, coordinate across disciplines, and ensure that the whole team is staying on schedule. At Naughty Dog, there is no production department."

After the backlash you've received in the past, not to mention, the people quitting in droves, maybe, get on that. What Naughty Dog champions as "creative freedom" seems more like anarchy based on what we've read.

Re: PlayStation Cancels Huge PAX East Showing Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Ron22

I'm surprised that they completely canceled it. A smaller showing with less games wouldn't have phased me, but this caught me off guard. Like all the comments above, better this than getting deathly ill.
I'm now wondering what the show floor will look like. Even on an off year, Sony takes up a considerable amount of space. Will it be just more walking room (which would be welcome) or will another exhibitor swoop in?
