Deathloop PS5 PlayStation

Developer Arkane has confirmed what fans have suspected for a long while now, that the excellent time-bending shooter Deathloop is set in the wildly imaginative universe of the Dishonored series.

The studio's creative director Dinga Bakaba confirmed the relationship between the two on the latest episode of the Xbox Podcast, which comes to us via PC Gamer. In the video, Bakaba states that Deathloop is "one of the futures of the Dishonored world."

Fans have long theorised a connection between the two, given that both games share functionally similar powers like Shift and Blink or Nexus and Domino (although that could have been reasonably denied as recycling ideas between the two series). Bakaba said that he has enjoyed watching fans share theories online and goes further, stating, "we envisioned Deathloop to be happening in the future, after Death of the Outsider." Death of the Outsider was a standalone piece of DLC for Dishonored 2, the final act in the Dunwall saga.

Bakaba goes on to describe his favourite tease, which was under our noses the whole time, emblazoned on the Heritage shotgun: "On the side, there is a little logo that you can barely see," Bakaba said. "But now that we've added idle breaks where the character plays with his guns, you can actually see that the logo is Dunwall Tower."

So there you have it, official confirmation of the link between the two series. It's cool to see the theory confirmed, and bittersweet, knowing that it's still up in the air as to whether we see another Arkane studio game on Playstation, considering parent company Bethesda's acquisition by Microsoft. What do you think of the link between the two? Let us know in the comments section below.
