I was expecting some kind of or even attempt to have their "mic drop" moment however nothing. I see no reason for me to invest in their console. There was very little substance in what they showed for me. I don;t care about the Series X being "the most powerful console." They did not show me any new gaming experiences or anything truly unique to set them apart. It was just more of the same as we already see on the XBox One X.
@Octane yes I agree. Apologize and warn people that if they decide to partake in the leaks that they will not be experiencing the game the proper way and will see and hear details out of context. They can keep the excitement going and brush off the fact that this happened with positive press and outreach. This is the only way to handle a situation like this. Abusing a copyright system to silence people's freedom of speech is illegal and immoral. People were affected that didn't show one frame of footage or pictures from the leaks. Do you agree with them being affected for merely commenting on the situation? If you do I recommend you read the 1st amendment of the U.S. constitution and the copyright laws regarding fair use and then ponder the facts of this situation again. If this is not of interest to you and you agree that they did the right thing then I will respectfully agree to disagree. I never want my freedom of speech compromised or especially taken away. In my opinion this was a bad take for Naughty Dog no matter how you slice the pie.
@Octane you cannot silence people's freedom of speech. This way was cheap and has tarnished the companies reputation as falsely copyright striking videos that have not violated such rules affects people's livelihood. These people affected in this manner are right for fighting this. In addition to this the manner in which they struck the videos using a 3rd party company to do this shields them from the legal consequences connected to doing this. The optics are not in their favor. People are allowed to have opinions last time I checked. You as an individual can choose whether you want to listen to them or not. Nobody has the right to tell you you can only have an opinion if it is positive as this isn't fair or just to freedom of speech. I do not agree with whoever the people are who leaked the spoilers however Naughty Dog and Sony could have handled this situation so much better than they actually did.
@s22222 my sentiments exactly. Well said. great question. Where's your coverage of this Push Square? You all are on Youtube. What they're doing affects you all as well. Would you ever want your honest opinions of something hushed because the creator of a product you were covering did not like them? I'm sure the answer has to be "no" correct?
I feel Sony needs to adopt a similar strategy to Microsoft using the PS4 as its scalable platform. While the PS5 will definitely have its forthcoming exclusives the price and the fact that every PS4 they sell now is pure profit based upon the age of the platform and throughput would keep them competitive with the potential product plans Microsoft will have.
HEAVENLY SWORD!!! Make a sequel and remaster the original. Have the sequel close the story arc and give long time the fans of that game what they desire.
They should allow the user to be able to choose which platforms they choose to cross play with. Have one choice be "console" which will include PS4 and Xbox One and the other selection be "all."
I did the survey however I found it strange a lot of questions I would have answered "no" to did not have a choice for that. Seems a bit biased without answers truthful to the respondents particular situation. Like Cosplay. There was no "I don;t do this" type of answer. Also instead of "no" some questions had "I plan to" which is not truthful relative to the question being asked.
@nessisonett Zelda II might have some platforming within it however it is not the core of its overall mechanic. It's more of an "Adventure" or "Action RPG" before they really were cemented as a genre. That being said "At least compared to the NES days when every game was a 2D platformer" sounds completely different than "While, yes, many games are not 2D platformers, loads were, especially licensed games." The only reason I responded to your comment is the fact that it was not true and easily dispelled with a brief Google search. I respect your perception of what you experienced however the facts are the facts. Two things hindered the variety of games available. Technology was one and the other was the newness of videogames and storytelling being put together to allow the player to be immersed in a full narrative experience. Itis just as difficult to compare a '57 Chevrolet Corvette to a 2020 Chevrolet COrvette Stingray. Similar products for different generations relative to when they were designed and engineered for the public to enjoy. One of those paved the way for what was to come and the current Corvette wouldn't exist without the experiences had in creating it's predecessor.
If you really analyze how games were back in the 80's 90's, and early 2000's compared to now consider this. DLC as we know it today back then became a sequel to the title you enjoyed or a second release of the same title much like we saw with Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Champion Edition, and Street Fighter II Turbo. If you were to take the cost those games as new, totalled them together, and then adjusted for inflation the total would be quite expensive. Taking a base game like Street Fighter V comparably and adding in the DLC over its lifetime while I have not put the figures together probably would net a similar result. The advantage of DLC is that while you initially bought the base game Capcom gave you the ability to squeeze more life out of your purchase as a cost whereas prior to these practices you had to purchase a brand new copy of the revised game altogether. I feel for most people the optics of DLC while people dislike microtransactions make sense compared to feeling like they have to buy another game just to get the upgraded content and the added content usually costs less than buying a brand new title. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages however I don;t think the way things used to be would go over so well with people any longer.
@nessisonett Double Dragon I & II, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, The Legend of Zelda I & II, Section Z, Gradius, Life Force, Zanac, Contra, River City Ransom, Gotcha, RBI Baseball, Bases Loaded, Top Gun I & II, Tetris, Dr. Mario, and Rad Racer I & II. Out of 678 NES games released in North America the majority of them were not platformers. While they weren't a minority they also weren't the most prevalent kind of game on the platform.
This is the current state of affairs with game developers releasing games that are not 100% completed. It's not the end of the world though. I'm sure they're aware of it however it mildly tarnishes the excitement they built for this game and all the people who have been dying to play it. Those feelings will not last long though.
"It’s likely that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will cost the same, and considering Sony’s system has a disadvantage in teraflops, this could become a marketing headache for the Japanese giant to navigate."
Well Nintendo is the underdog now and will be even further behind once the XBox Series X and PS5 launch. That hasn't hindered their continued success. I feel this is a premature statement based upon pure speculation and only one side of the entire picture which is far from being completed yet. Lets see what happens when these consoles finally launch. We may find that with the difference in business strategies the two companies may end up complimenting each other rather than competing. Also the gamer lovers and fans will most likely end of up getting both.
@shuvamg009 I am with you on that. How does Microsoft support games with online abilities so long in their lifecycle but Sony has never been able to do the same? They really need to change this if they want people to truly invest in games like this in the long term. There are always games people like to go back to if they have positive online experiences in addition to overall experiences playing said game.
@GetAlife life happens sometimes and from there you enjoy what you have until you can upgrade when it makes sense or when the person can afford it. I don't understand why people assume the fact that if someone doesn't have the current generation console or technology they're out of touch with reality altogether. That is a very dim assessment.
@TheBuzz I am aware however I like to send messages if I see someone online while I'm gaming. I do have the app. Also FYI I am on my third iPhone and have owned smartphones since 2008. If you're alluding to it I am far from a tech dinosaur man. I took a break due to life happenings from gaming between generations. By the time I got back into it was the end of 2018. I knew the next generation was upon us so I decided to save my money and enjoy what I already have. Hence no PS4 in my household. I have way too many other consoles I can turn on and enjoy. Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it.
Believe it or not I don;t own a PS4 and message my friends who have PS4's from my 60GB FAT PS3. Long story however I am holding out for a PS5. This is not a big deal however it is still cool to keep in touch with friends.
@GADG3Tx87 I'm in a very small minority however I did not invest in the 8th generation of consoles. I don't own a PS4 however I want to experience it and what will be coming on the PS5. I really hope they get the backwards compatibility working well as I don't want to buy a PS4 if I can possibly help it. I want a PS5.
@Cybrshrk I'm going to agree to disagree and conclude this conversation. We'll see what happens. The most powerful is not always the best. I like what I see and will speak with my money.
@Cybrshrk well the XBox One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro however that did not slow down Sony's momentum upon continuing their success this current generation. It's not how many teraflops the console has, it is what they are able to effectively do with them that makes the most impact. I fully understand what Mark Cerny was conveying today for the most part and if you look at how they are approaching their storage and also the speed at which the processors are able to send and receive information this could potentially give the PlayStation 5 the advantage in spite of its lower teraflop rating. This is all speculation until we are able to see both in action with multiplatform games released for both consoles. The fast that you feel Sony is fudging their numbers is your opinion and you're entitled to that however with their track record I don;t know them to be that way when they have provided information for anything they do. I have been playing PlayStation since the very first one that I still own back in 1997. We shall see very soon what the real deal is.
@lacerz after this in depth explanation people are still crying about teraflops. I am seeing what you're seeing. The story is only beginning. There's more to this to come and I feel Cerny's approach especially if we see what the cost of these new technologies and ultimately their capabilities will be may change the landscape of what we know about "teraflops" and compute power today.
@AdamNovice over 108+ million consoles strong this generation and you're worried about the health of PlayStation? I think his response is spot on. You have nothing to worry about. As he said now that the game has aged on the PlayStation platform now more people get to enjoy it.
"Will PlayStation Exclusives on PC Affect Your PS5 Purchasing Intent?" Hell NO!!!!!! I will be a day one or as close as possible buyer and happy as hell to experience it.
@Jay767 look at the backlash about Death Stranding going to PC lol. I mean they only announced that at around the same time they announced the existence of the game. These reactions are silly nad unnecessary. At the end of the day I applaud Sony for what they have accomplished and how they are being more open to new things to ultimately benefit their fans. Cross platform Minecraft is a great example of this.
@BarefootBowser PS4 is not worth the effort if a person is considering a PS5 next year. The prices on PS4's will drop like bricks once more details and a launch date are announced. At this point the best value for the money would be a PS Vita which may have the ability to play games mirrored like it was able to do with the PS3 and PS4. Otherwise a PS3 would be a great start for now relative to the excellent selection of games both physical and PSN digital downloads and the ability to play PS1 games and dependent upon which PS3 model they prospective buyer is able to acquire PS2 games.
@Claude I still play mine at least three times a week. The Fat PS3 Mk1 was the best version of the PS3 and I play three generations of PlayStation on it with a grin on my face.
"The player character, which you can customise with ridiculous clothes at any time, is new in town, and quickly makes friends with a mechanic and his street racing sister." "Midnight Club: Los Angeles" anyone? This sounds almost exactly like it.
Why not?! It's one of my top favorite fighting games and playthroughs of any games I own. If they do it though they should not go with the same art style as SF V. They should do something that compliments the original game while bringing it into the 21st century.
I have always loved this series since the SNES. I don't own the original so this is the perfect opportunity to get the original and sequels in one swoop to enjoy.
I respect Kojima's creativity as I have been playing games he has created since 1988. He is out there and he keeps his cards close to his vest. He never reveals too much too soon which keeps peoples interest building. Today's footage was only a small aspect of the game and was a swerve to the adventure, new concepts, and escapism that I'm sure this experience will provide the many people who buy it to play and enjoy.
@wiiware if you every have a chance to play the original Actraiser. I highly recommend it. The game is a lot of fun and has aged well. This Sega release from "ACE" looks really cool. His running animation does look a bit goofy however it looks like they did a nice job overall.
