Re: $70 Games Could Be Hurting PS5, PS4 Sales, But There's More to the Story

MrDoug91

This is an excellent display of why it's important for an analyst to have a business degree. Financial literacy is a skill and the original reporting on this was very disappointing. There are several significant economic factors at play here and the report only focused on how total sales were down. Push Square and others shouldn't have to write an explainer to clear things up for people.

Re: Call of Duty Is the Main Reason People Buy PS5, PS4, Says New Survey

MrDoug91

A lot of people seem to really have a hard time understanding that they aren't the majority opinion. If you're on a site like this, IGN, Gamespot etc, then you are not the mainstream casual audience. There are millions and millions of people who are less invested in the ecosystem than you are and just want the new version of the things they like.

Re: Bethesda Apologises to PS5, PS4 Fans 'P*ssed' at Exclusivity

MrDoug91

@get2sammyb People keep looking at this with a short term view, but it's the long term effects that worry me. Buying entire publishers in monopolistic behavior. We could be on a path to where there aren't many 3rd party AAA studios left down the road. If companies like Amazon and Tencent or maybe even Google join the bidding wars we could be in for some trouble. 10yrs from now people could be asking, "what happened to the video game industry and where did things go wrong?", and I'd point to this acquisition a major turning point.

Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

MrDoug91

I'm inclined to agree, but looking at the 2022 slate of games I can imagine next year's E3 being a monster if everybody shows up ready to go. But I can see Microsoft and Nintendo taking away the lesson that they don't need E3 and if those 2 leave then it should just go away for good.

Re: Days Gone Director on Skipped Sequel: 'If You Love a Game, Buy It at F***ing Full Price'

MrDoug91

I think people are missing his point. His problem is clearly having all these people sing the games praises years after it released and acting stunned that there isn't a sequel when they're the same ones who didn't support it originally. Like it's fine to wait for cheaper prices and patches, but then you can't complain about decisions regarding dlc or sequels. It's a trade off. I get the frustration of everything happening now being pointless and feeling too little too late.

Re: Housemarque on Returnal's Price: We're Doing Our Half of the Value Proposition

MrDoug91

People are seriously overstating the impact of games costing $70 at launch in the macro sense. Most people who will pass on it at that price weren't going to buy it at $60 either. There's nothing wrong with waiting for sales and gaming on a budget! And I know there will be some people who pass due to the increase, but my point is that it is a small percentage of people. If it comes out and it's great then it'll sell well and if it's not then it won't. The extra $10 just isn't that big of a factor in the big picture.

Re: Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Looks Poised for a Second Run

MrDoug91

Ideally he gets everyone on board and SGF runs from June 1st to the 30th. Publishers get to have their day to shine without being overshadowed and we fans get time to enjoy all of the announcements. Going May to August felt like it was dragging on and on. It would be hype to have everything happen in a single month.

Re: Warner Bros Under Fire for Patenting Nemesis System

MrDoug91

The key question is how tightly is it enforced? As long as the system isn't being copied 1 for 1 then I don't think it matters too much. It's fine if we see a version that makes us say, oh this reminds me of Shadow of War and not just this is the same thing.

Re: Talking Point: Is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Still a PS5 Launch Window Game?

MrDoug91

@Mysterio I understand your logic. However, in a normal world where E3 happens, I think that is my cutoff. Anything prior to that is Launch Window. It's a tent pole event where the industry turns it's attention to what comes next so it feels like a natural cutoff. Now that I think about it, I might also say it's when we drop the next gen phrasing as well.

I agree that ultimately it doesn't matter and they should do what's best for the game so that we get the best version possible.

Re: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Gets New Gameplay Footage in Latest Dev Diary

MrDoug91

The argument against rising prices is so illogical imo. I keep seeing people say they'll wait for sales when the game is half off, they can get it on ps plus, or something similar. That's all fine, but that tells me you were never in the market for the game even at $60. Gaming on a budget is nothing to be ashamed of. But it doesn't make sense to complain about something that wasn't going to impact you in the first place.

Re: PS5 Fans Are Panicking Over Backwards Compatibility

MrDoug91

BC is really only important during launch. 2 years from now nobody will care about it because there will be plenty of new titles available. Xbox made it a big deal on current gen because they didn't have the 1st party output to lean on. Once MS and Sony are both pumping out new exclusives all this BC talk will be in the rear view mirror.
