This is an excellent display of why it's important for an analyst to have a business degree. Financial literacy is a skill and the original reporting on this was very disappointing. There are several significant economic factors at play here and the report only focused on how total sales were down. Push Square and others shouldn't have to write an explainer to clear things up for people.
In addition to Decima, Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica have their own engines and I'm not sure what Insomniac and Bungie use. I'd like to think that between the options available in house that all PS Studios would be able to use what makes sense for the game and have the help available to make it work.
A lot of people seem to really have a hard time understanding that they aren't the majority opinion. If you're on a site like this, IGN, Gamespot etc, then you are not the mainstream casual audience. There are millions and millions of people who are less invested in the ecosystem than you are and just want the new version of the things they like.
Loved this episode and probably my favorite so far. Fun action sequence plus plenty of relationship building with Joel and Ellie. They're starting to feel like a family and it's natural.
This is how it should be. Let people know that you have a project in the works so they know there's something to look forward to, but don't give any details until it's nearly a finished product.
Thank goodness for the difficulty fix! However, after getting my ass kicked by even basic enemies I eventually got good enough to make progress lol. Not sure if I'll still need it to finish but I sure am glad to have the option 😆
I'm more interested in the modern game collection. Adding recent games like a Death Stranding and Returnal is the kind of thing that can get me to subscribe.
Obviously a big announcement is coming soon. Just a matter of time now. I'm guessing they announce sometime next week that the showcase is the week after.
I wonder if Sony turns smartphone gaming into the successor to the PSP and Vita. I can see them making Golden Abyss type games available for everyone to download.
@get2sammyb People keep looking at this with a short term view, but it's the long term effects that worry me. Buying entire publishers in monopolistic behavior. We could be on a path to where there aren't many 3rd party AAA studios left down the road. If companies like Amazon and Tencent or maybe even Google join the bidding wars we could be in for some trouble. 10yrs from now people could be asking, "what happened to the video game industry and where did things go wrong?", and I'd point to this acquisition a major turning point.
I'm inclined to agree, but looking at the 2022 slate of games I can imagine next year's E3 being a monster if everybody shows up ready to go. But I can see Microsoft and Nintendo taking away the lesson that they don't need E3 and if those 2 leave then it should just go away for good.
I've put about 40hrs into ME1 and I've really enjoyed it but man the combat isn't great, the mako still doesn't handle that well, and inventory management is annoying. But still, 9/10 experience overall to me. I'm excited to move on to ME2 next.
I think people are missing his point. His problem is clearly having all these people sing the games praises years after it released and acting stunned that there isn't a sequel when they're the same ones who didn't support it originally. Like it's fine to wait for cheaper prices and patches, but then you can't complain about decisions regarding dlc or sequels. It's a trade off. I get the frustration of everything happening now being pointless and feeling too little too late.
@Digit2021 Same thing happened for me. Thought I just needed to restart so glad to know it's just another bug. Also, my star map no longer opens for claimed skills.
@Rhaoulos I'm American so idk much about UK pricing. I was thinking in terms of $60 to $70. How that translates internationally with exchange rates is a far more complicated topic.
People are seriously overstating the impact of games costing $70 at launch in the macro sense. Most people who will pass on it at that price weren't going to buy it at $60 either. There's nothing wrong with waiting for sales and gaming on a budget! And I know there will be some people who pass due to the increase, but my point is that it is a small percentage of people. If it comes out and it's great then it'll sell well and if it's not then it won't. The extra $10 just isn't that big of a factor in the big picture.
Ideally he gets everyone on board and SGF runs from June 1st to the 30th. Publishers get to have their day to shine without being overshadowed and we fans get time to enjoy all of the announcements. Going May to August felt like it was dragging on and on. It would be hype to have everything happen in a single month.
The key question is how tightly is it enforced? As long as the system isn't being copied 1 for 1 then I don't think it matters too much. It's fine if we see a version that makes us say, oh this reminds me of Shadow of War and not just this is the same thing.
@Mysterio I understand your logic. However, in a normal world where E3 happens, I think that is my cutoff. Anything prior to that is Launch Window. It's a tent pole event where the industry turns it's attention to what comes next so it feels like a natural cutoff. Now that I think about it, I might also say it's when we drop the next gen phrasing as well.
I agree that ultimately it doesn't matter and they should do what's best for the game so that we get the best version possible.
@Mysterio I feel like calling new consoles "next gen" is fair for about a year. For most people they don't have one and many games are coming out cross gen. After that, it really sounds weird to use a future tense phrase for a product coming up on an anniversary.
The argument against rising prices is so illogical imo. I keep seeing people say they'll wait for sales when the game is half off, they can get it on ps plus, or something similar. That's all fine, but that tells me you were never in the market for the game even at $60. Gaming on a budget is nothing to be ashamed of. But it doesn't make sense to complain about something that wasn't going to impact you in the first place.
It could be the industry course correcting. If Days Gone was reviewed excessively tough for it's bugs then maybe everyone is updating their review process how we said we wanted them to. Unfortunately one game had to be the sacrificial lamb to get us to this point.
I feel bad for these guys. This game is clearly a long ways away from release and this is the public's first display of gameplay. The fact that this dude is criticizing the game in any way is totally unfair given that there's no way to know what the final version will look like at this point in time.
I'm already 90% digital only, but if Sony introduces a digital return policy for games then I'll be 100% digital. Also my PS4 jet engine problem was worse with disks.
I want Insomniac to make Rachet and Clank first to learn how to build for the PS5. Then take those lessons and apply them to Spiderman to make it the best game it can be.

Re: Poll: How Good Was The Last of Us - Episode 4?
Loved this episode and probably my favorite so far. Fun action sequence plus plenty of relationship building with Joel and Ellie. They're starting to feel like a family and it's natural.
Re: Poll: Was The Last of Us - Episode 3 the Best One Yet?
It was drawn out a bit too much for my liking. They could have easily shaved off 15 minutes and told the same story.
Re: Round Up: Forspoken's Divided Reviews Make for Some Rough Reading
@Gr8VngnzN4esAngr Gary didn't write the character dialogue. He worked on lore and world building.

Re: Sony: PS5 Price Increase Hasn't Affected High Demand
@get2sammyb there has to be some Sony execs furious about missing out on tens of millions in profit cuz they priced the console too low
Re: Forspoken's Glitzy Magic Combat Has Untold Depth on PS5
Forspoken has been my most anticipated game after Ragnarok since it was announced. I am so excited for this thing to come out!
Re: NBA 2K23 Has a Frightening 143GB Install Size on PS5
People who play 2K and Call of Duty are basically locked in to just playing those games 😂
Re: Poll: Will Sony Host a PlayStation Showcase Next Month?
Seems like a lock. They need to build up excitement for players leading into TLOU Pt1 and GOW.
Re: It Looks Like Square Enix Won't Be Betting the Farm on the Blockchain After All
This likely has more to do with the overall collapse of the nft market than any criticism they've received.
Re: The First Summer Gaming Showcase Has Been Announced
Announcing an event 4 months away seems pretty crazy right? Who is even gonna remember this after the June showcases lol

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?
The last thing I want to see is an arms race to acquire as many studios as possible, but that seems like the inevitable direction that we're headed.
Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for December 2021 Do You Want?
Dream picks would be Kena Bridge of Spirits and The Pathless, but I doubt we'll get either lol

This game is gonna have like an 80% attach rate to PS5 consoles lol

Re: Sony Alludes to More PS5, PS4 Updates Throughout the Summer
Late April: Ratchet
Late May: Horizon FW
Early July: Deathloop
I think we can safely assume there'll be another update in August as well. Hopefully they go big leading up to Gamescom.

Still playing through Outriders. Once I've had my fill I'll eventually move on to Returnal.
Re: Anime Streaming App Funimation Overhauled on PS5, PS4
The PlayStation website said the offer expired last week so I assumed I missed my chance. Is this article saying it's actually still up and available?
