Re: Valve's Steam Machine May Not Be As Affordable As a PS5

@11001100110zero Cheers for the suggestions but my Deck is running fine and I'm very comfortable tinkering and finding solutions to issues. I find it satisfying to when I finally figure something out. Probably explains why I work in IT!

The OS issues I'm talking about are just little niggly things. For example there was an issue a lot of people were experiencing early in the Deck's life where the device would not connect to WiFi. I also remember having issues with Dragon's Dogma Darkness Arisen and the only solution was to use GE Proton. I think that solution is fine for people who are comfortable making changes but I think the average console gamer who may not have gamed on a PC before will have trouble from time to time.

My latest conundrum is trying to get GOG Resident Evil 1 working with the the upscaled backgrounds and textures. I'm very close to having it sorted but there are some visual glitches that I think are being caused by dgVoodoo2 because the old versions are not available within Lutris anymore. I managed to download the last version that was Linux compatible despite the devs best efforts to wipe it from the internet so I'm going to try and use that but I need to look into manually installing dgVoodoo2 now

I love my Steam Deck so I'm very interested in this but anything over £500 / £600 would be a bit of a killer and I think it would struggle to get off the ground.

Also, as anyone who has a Steam Deck will know, it's not all straight forward. The OS is still a bit buggy and some games just do not work or have weird issues that you have to google to fix. For example, I decided to play Doom 3 on the Deck earlier this year but there was a very odd visual glitch any time a particular enemy would appear and after spending a long time looking into it, it turned out I needed to make a change to a parameter in a config file.

My point is, the average joe who thinks this might be an easy way into PC gaming may end up disappointed although if you have your expectations in check and don't mind a bit of tinkering from time to time you will have a great experience.

This was the most interesting thing for me at the SoP. But I really hope that they aren't just one off race weekends and that there are multi-round championships included. This needs to be the kind of thing GT do in their games going forward. Starting from the back is outdated. I'd love to see them have a career mode where you create your own team, start at the Sunday Cup with your little banger, earn credits to buy new cars and enter other championships.

My dream racing game would be GT as the base for handling, presentation and graphics mixed with F1 / Grid team management mixed with Project Cars / Motor Racing event calendars, event entry fees etc.

I bought a first class ticket for the hype train when this originally released. Like most people I was disappointed. Since then, with all these big updates, I've tried to get back into it but it never seems to get the hooks into me. Last time I tried it was in VR and was having fun with it until BG3 came along and took my attention away. Maybe it's time to give it go again. 8th time's a charm eh?

@Czar_Khastik What a time to be alive eh?

I'm disappointed Sony never introduced the 'What's New' feed that they had on PS4. It was always good seeing what games your friends were playing, what trophies they earned and being able to post videos and screenshots was great craic.
