This last collectible will make me enormously proud. I will sit there in front of my TV (the PS Portal screen is just not big enough for this) for a couple of minutes and watch this „Mystic“ PNG with a deep feeling of humility and being one with the universe. And I will show it every guest on my next birthday party. I can’t wait to see their reactions!
Complaining about Roblox is nice and all. The better answer is to make a superior alternative.
With Half-Life 2 came Steam, and people were upset. Why such an online store with 30% fee, why not buying directly from the publisher? Nowadays, Steam is not only totally accepted but somewhat appreciated by a huge number of PC gamers as their single point of PC gaming.
These were the platforms we are totally fine with these days. The next step are the metaverses, Fortnite and Roblox (and none from Meta).
If you don’t like Fortnite and Roblox as metaverses for your favourite franchises, support alternatives or create them by your own. There market is big enough for a GOG metaverse!
Yeah, 10% off for Clair Obscure. Now all those people who wanted the game but found the original price to high, they will buy it now.
Seriously, @PushSquare, please focus on the games with 40% or more discount and are not permanently in „sales mode“. That would be much more helpful for us readers. Thank you!
THAT is something I don’t get. Okay, Switch 2 cartridges are expensive, I get it. But PS5 discs? Probably dirt cheap.
Main problem with a multi-disc release could be that you play the games on disc 1, while a friend of yours plays the games on disc 2. and after some weeks, you exchange them.
But we are talking here about a collection of established games. Saving money won’t be the top priority for most buyers!
As long as genuine Xbox (not „Xbox“-PCs) is a relevant platform, Sony will think about bringing the heavy hitters to it. Milking the cow is the REAL premier league of game publishing.
After the last and hefty price hike, I considered letting running out my Essential subscription, but I renewed it. Because I had great experiences with A Plague‘s Tale 1 and 2 and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.
But nowadays I want to spend for things and sevices I really use. And this bit of multiplayer in FromSoft games just might be not enough to justify the Essential subscription.
Nintendo Switch Online with Expansion Pack is a much better deal for me. Half the price and better games!
@Nakatomi_Uk Sorry, I thought the contradiction of „The proof“ and a clearly false statement (Sony closed several studios) would be clear enough to see that this comment was sarcastic. Despite having no GamePass, Sony closed a multitude of studios, because the expected outcome wasn’t high enough. With or without a flatrate subscription service.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Your and my impression about Microsoft‘s interest in gaming differ: They invested dozens of billions in gaming, and they also spent a billion for fixing the Red Ring of Death back then with Xbox 360. In such a corporate group like Microsoft, every division must be profitable by itself (with a risk-adapted interest rate), there is no longtime subsidisation.
Thankfully, Microsoft is not as dependent on one division as it is with Sony. THIS is what is much more worrying to me! If PlayStation suffers, the whole Sony group is in danger.
@LogicStrikesAgain I‘d be surprised if Microsoft had to pay a fixed price for offering a game on GP. A model in which Microsoft pays the publisher a small fixed fee for the number of months in the catalogue plus a bigger fee for every user playing more than X hours is much more likely in my opinion, but it’s just guessing from my side. In such a model, the number of subscribers is of a far less importance.
Does anyone actually know how the payment scheme works for GP games from third-parties?
@MFTWrecks I hoped that „The proof:“ in combination with a statement which is clearly false would be telling enough that I was just cynical. Colantonio gives a very one-dimensional explanation here, blaming the publisher, obviously still very frustrated by the events that happened to him.
We mostly see the success stories, but many (most?) games will never earn money, their making was instead a waste of resources, enthusiasm snd creativity. So to thrive, a publisher must eliminate those developments with high costs and high probability of commercial failure as part of its portfolio management.
There are SO MANY game releases these days! And many customers stick to their favourite games for years. Game business is brutal.
They are all right. Without Gamepass, Microsoft wouldn’t have closed these studios due to costs being too high for the expected success. The proof: Sony offers no Gamepass and has never fired people or closed an entire studio.
@Oram77 Yes, the EU has some power regarding consumer products. Also thanks to the EU, I can charge the iPhone - I‘m writing this text with - with USB-C.
@MrPeanutbutterz I get why they made this article, and I still prefer quality over quantity. Speaking of SEO, the title lacks the typical „on PS5“. These policies make the articles a bit soulless sometimes.
@PuppetMaster Sorry, I‘m still angry. I think it should not be worth mentioning that one company isn’t doing BS which other companies do. Imagine this article in a newspaper: „Still no signs that politician C is corrupt. After the reveal that the politians A and B are corrupt, our investigation team found out that there are no signs at all that politician C, who is totally independent of the other ones, is corrupt in any means. And this after decades of no signs of corruption.“ This behaviour should be regarded as standard which is not worth mentioning.
@PuppetMaster Nope, I find these kind of articles somewhat superfluous. It‘s like „Sony is doing what they’ve always done with single-player games since PS1“. Instead, they should only make articles about publishers which don’t.
@PuppetMaster Just because publishers other than Sony and Nintendo are doing bad things isn’t enough reason for me to applaud Sony and Nintendo for doing the normal stuff.
And no, there are no signs that Nintendo will use game-key cards for their games. They offer them to other publishers, because cartridges will always be expensive (even if there were models with less than 64 GB). And the alternative for many publishers would be „code in the box“, probably the worst option.
@MrPeanutbutterz I know what’s happening. And still: No applause from me for what I still consider normal business. Microsoft is moving to PC and digital-only.
But Sony and Nintendo? Please tell me a single game (beside TotK, which has two language packs not on the cartridge to fit on a 16 GB one) from them which is not in its entirety on the physical medium. And are there any signs that this will change for the latest systems?
The industry is trained by the customers to increase the amount of content more and more. For Baldur‘s Gate 3, the poor writers created millions of sentences, and people take that insane amount of (mostly tedious) work for granted.
But it’s not, most of us wouldn’t want to do this job, which a machine can do on a similar quality level these days.
@Rich33 You lucky man! I can’t have fun with a half decent game, because I know there are still dozens of fantastic games out there I haven’t played yet.
@SeaDaVie Ragnarök had 23k Steam players in its first week, 2018 had 74k. How high do you think is the probability that Ragnarök shifts significant numbers on PC?
@PuppetMaster I totally agree, and I wasn’t clear in my explanation. My short list of examples include AAA games which look and play pretty much the same as the predecessor, and you have noteworthy ones in your list, e.g. Uncharted. I still have the feeling that successors typically suffer.
@UltimateOtaku91 Your explanation sounds reasonable. Sequel + a very divisive gameplay mechanic. Even games with highly accepted gameplay suffer, Horizon, GoW, Spidey, Doom. TotK also performed worse than BotW, but on a much higher level (10m after 3 days, now more than 21m).
That’s clearly Sony fault. The PS5‘s power management should ensure that the maximum power draw is limited to a certain value, which the power supply and the cooling system can handle even under rough conditions.
Here the power management is failing. Or this operation is heating a small area on the chip, leading to a local overheating, while total consumption is okay.
Now it‘s the job of Kojima Productions to fix the game AND of Mark Cerny and his team to find the problem and solve it for upcoming games, probably by updating the PS5 SDK.
@Oram77 And what does Early Access mean? Beta status? Early income for the devs to finance the lengthy development?
No, this here is something different, more like the release schedule of cars: In the first few months you only get the models with more expensive engines, while the masses wait for the cheaper options. To call that model „Early Access“ would be bonkers.
I would argue that using AI in this way, for minor tasks like creating foliage textures, is a smart use of the technology and will help save costs and improve efficiency.
Indy is the game I‘m interested in, but the current prices are still too high for my taste. Hopefully we will see a significant price drop for Black Friday.

God of War is one of Sony‘s strongest IPs, and Santa Monica can make great GoW single-player games. The answer is clear.

@colt45z Which one? Wet Dreams Don’t Dry or Wet Dreams Dry Twice?
Re: PS4 Firmware Update 12.52 Out Now, Features 'Security Fixes'
I find articles about PS4 firmware updates more interesting than about games with weird halfnaked Anime characters.
Re: The Last of Us Part 2 'Chronological' Update Out Today on PS5, PC, Lets You Play Through the Story in Linear Order
The original order is part of the artistic expression and in my opinion carefully handled, I don’t want it other than that.
In contrast, Part 1 would benefit from a „chronological“ mode, with Left Behind seamlessly integrated into the main game.

This will help a lot! Many console games use FSR for upscaling. With FSR 4, the Pro functionality will be much more easily accessible to developers.
For many other games without FSR usage (especially when using TSR in UE5), the Pro won‘t get versions with AI upscaling.
