@Nepp67 Because it has nothing to do with the subject of this article. It's just inserted for the sake of clicks. Tired of it, honestly. Let's see what this future model actually looks like, then have a proper debate. Instead of faux outrage in a tiny tiny corner of the interwebz.
Good lineup. I've had the original Citizen Sleeper in my backlog for a while after a sale purchase, a good time to get into it ahead of playing the second one.
@Dampsponge I'm seeing this assumption a lot in the PS forums, but while Sony will have increased control over a digital-only landscape, they won't have complete control - at least not in the UK and Europe more widely, because consumer laws will require a level of competition - and Son'y original announcement already mentioned other retailers.
I'm not massively happy about the move away from physical, but I am willing to see exactly what it looks like first before being too judgemental - and we don't have all the details yet - but this particular detail is one where the assumptions are simply incorrect.
Some nice, gentle Civ VII while I nurse a hangover from day one of a stag do and prepare to head out on day two - which will no doubt involve convincing some lucky establishment to let ten drunk lads in to watch the England game...
Have a great weekend all - physical, digital or otherwise
@Oram77 He veers a little bit 'PC Master Race' these days but all I care about is people enjoying games, whatever the platform - so I forgive him for that. He puts time, effort and thought into all of his previews/reviews and that's all I can ask for, honestly.
For me personally I have Star Wars: Zero Company and Control Resonant as my two must-haves, and then maybe space for one more assuming I do get GTA VI.
So... Dawnwalker, Onimusha, Wolverine, Ace Combat 8, Galactic Racer or Phantom Blade Zero? Impossible to choose, honestly.
The January sales are going to be an absolute drain on my wallet, that's all I know for sure right now.
@CheesyOatcake I couldn't agree more. We sit in a fun if somewhat echo-filled minority chamber of edge-case gamers. Passionate, (usually) well-informed but entirely unrepresentative of the main player base. Doesn't stop the discourse being something I enjoy though, even if it is occasionally spiky.
@Oram77 100% agree on that final push, the end of the year is so stacked we all need to make well-informed buying decisions. I'll check out SkillUp's preview later, he usually has my back.
@Oram77 Not knowing OR trusting Game Informer is a pretty weird flex, they are usually reliable and well considered in their coverage. A couple of the others, I'm with you.
Lovely to read about what everybody is up to this weekend, as always. I'm taking a break from gaming this weekend with family over from Oz and my dad's 80th birthday party taking priority. Some Balatro when nobody's watching
Lots of mismanagement, overpayment by Sony and more besides to blame for where Bungie finds itself now - but the sheer quality of the gameplay, environments and lore that Bungie consistently builds is something I hope we don't lose from the games industry. I hope they make the excellent (and niche) Marathon sustainable and their various incubation projects bear fruit.
Shout out to those that gave me so much joy, who are now without work - I hope you recover and go on to be brilliant.
@Northern_munkey Agree. It's been said before but jumping in on the Pro just before the price increase (and selling my base PS5) is one of the smartest moves I've made. I'll get years out of it.
I'm in a fortunate position in that I could afford it - but honestly, I couldn't justify it. When I think about what $1000 (which with Sony exchange rates will be £999 where I live) could do for my family, my home, just day to day living... it makes no sense to dive in on day one, does it?
My personal top 3 is currently First Light, Mixtape and Marathon - in no particular order. I'll never play RE9 but everything I've heard is impressive so it's an unsurprising number one. There'll be some revision later in the year looking at how stacked the releases are from September onwards, I'm sure.
I’m playing ‘get my son and all his crap home from uni’ followed by Destiny and Saros. And if I have time I’ll final start A Plague Tale: Requiem - it’s been sitting in the backlog for far too long.
I'm properly back into Destiny 2, which is getting in the way of Marathon season 2, ironically. There's a lot to learn (and re-learn) since The Final Shape. The bonus is that, even though there'll be no more new content, I have a year of content that's new for me to catch up on. See you starside, Guardians - and hopefully a few of you on Tau Ceti as well.
I'm sure this comments section will go well. Personally, I'm all for speeding up prototyping in any line of work with AI, as long as it's to inform human-crafted final products. I draw the line at replacing creatives responsible for the likes of sound, graphics, story with AI counterparts to create that final output.
I played thousands of hours up to and including The Final Shape and like many of my clan, I jumped back in last night to kick off the last hurrah. Bought Edge of Fate and Renegades to round out my content, currently £17 in total on sale so worth it.
There are a lot of changes to take in, even for a seasoned player - they overhauled the weapon and armour systems since TFS and the UI navigation/activity selection has had a reorganisation. And tbh, Destiny has always been baffling to begin with. But as soon as you get into the action... what a game. Once me and a buddy settled into the Edge of Fate story missions, it was just like old times - and a huge amount of fun.
For anyone who hasn't played Destiny at all, or dropped off long before TFS - this is a ton of quality content wrapped around Bungie's legendary gunplay, for free, culminating in their best story campaign and incredible artwork throughout. Install it, you won't regret it.
@Daz1380 It takes time to get through the tutorials, which can be off-putting. And there's no 'doing it wrong', just 'doing it differently'. Multiple paths and no judgement. Maybe give it another go.
I'd go with State of Play by the tiniest of margins, only because I couldn't drag myself through the second FF VII, so I'm entirely unexcited for the third. Laufey, Phantom Blade Zero and No Rest For The Wicked all really exciting for me. But let's be honest - all three had some great games to look forward to, so we should all be happy, right?
@Rich33 I'll never play Requiem as I can't play anything with jump scares (I know, I'm a grown man), but this and 007 definitely look like the early contenders. I'd love to see Patrick Gibson pick up a few awards for his performance at least.
I finished my first playthrough of 007 First Light and feel like I want to go again straight away, for the platinum. However, my backlog is winking at me... including the unfinished Saros, Cairn and AC Shadows. The new Stellar Blade trailer last night also has me eyeing up the first one...
I'm really worried it will be a morning of scrolling through the backlog and getting nothing played, in a similar position to you @mac_da_man
I’ve fallen off pretty hard just before chapter 8, mainly because of how much is already going on in the game. These superfluous additions are hardly making it any easier to get my head around jumping back in!
It wouldn't be Civ without radical generational shifts, slowly rolled back to align more closely to the previous version... these look like positive changes that will have me jumping back in for sure.
@Netret0120 As per @Northern_munkey I already play it, I love it, it's a really well-made game and just happens to be a bit niche. I'm really hoping people jump into the free week and come out with informed opinions - makes for a better discussion.
Played through the tutorial missions last night, great first impressions. The Bond vibe is super strong and the hand to hand combat has a nice rhythm to it. Looking forward to playing more tonight.
There’s a fantastic foundation to build on in terms of gameplay, art style and lore (if you dig deep enough). Future success will largely be determined by the casual PvP and PvE mode trials this coming season - viable PvE in particular will go a long way to increasing the player base - an opportunity to sample Bungie’s legendary gunplay without the same gear fear.
Back into Crimson Desert for a bit, and then onto the third boss in Saros. With it being a scorcher of a weekend though I need to balance gaming with barbecue and touching grass... all while feeling pressured to make some gaming progress with 007: First Light preordered and only days away. Have a great weekend all!
@Matroska I remember typing /played into WoW on my paladin main and getting a result of over one year of playtime... now a lot of that would have been spent standing on the bridge in Ironforge outside the Auction House, emoting in my full Judgement armour set but still... yeah. I put a lot of time into that little guy!
The place where, after WoW, most of my gaming friendships have been made. Around 3,500 hours across D1 and D2 (mainly as a Titan) will be fondly remembered but I knew once I completed The Final Shape campaign, I was done. Like others have said - it would have been the perfect time for Bungie to sunset D2 and move on to whatever's next. I'll reinstall and log in for one final go-around with the clan this summer, for nostalgia's sake.

I like what I've seen so far and at the very least it'll have another good performance from Jennifer English. Keen to see more.

Hopes to read a PushSquare article that doesn't reference Sony's shift to an all-digital future
Walks away disappointed
This game is still on my wishlist though.

Near impossible to pick just three - it's hard to do that for this September alone! We've got plenty to look forward to, across multiple genres.
Re: Poll: Vote for Your PS5 Game of the Month (May 2026)
007 First Light, closely followed by Mixtape. Two very different games but both fantastic experiences in their own right.

I'd go with State of Play by the tiniest of margins, only because I couldn't drag myself through the second FF VII, so I'm entirely unexcited for the third.
