Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months

Kogorn733

While the PS5 already has good momentum going due to the number of great titles available on it, I expected this presentation to give purchasers of the PSVR2 more confidence in the future of the system. The presentation utterly failed to do this. While RE4 in VR will be nice, horror and arcade style games on VR are growing stale. We need something big and epic, something the size/scale of Skyrim VR, in order to give the system a future. I really hope Sony shows off something like that soon, or I fear the PSVR2 will become a flop.

Re: PS5 Firmware Update Finally Changes How Game Discs Work

Kogorn733

Did they change whether disc-based versions of a PS4 game still get installed if you own the PS5 upgrade version? Here's the problem.

(1) You own the PS4 version of the game with a free (downloadable) PS5 upgrade. You need to put the PS4 disc in the drive in order to run the PS5 upgrade, even though the latter is downloadable

(2) you delete the data for the PS4/disc version of the game to save space

(3) later, you insert the PS4 disc in order to play the PS5-upgraded version of the game

(4) The PS5 still installs data for the PS4/disc version of the game, even though, with a PS5 upgraded version, you'll likely never play the PS4/disc version again.

Re: Embracer Group to Buy Multiple Square Enix Studios and IPs in Huge Acquisition

Kogorn733

At first glance, selling these studios was likely a good move. While Square's western studios had great talent, Square never really seemed to have a lot of enthusiasm for them and never really learned how to manage them well (even though some made great games).

However, their justification for selling the studios is just stupid. I'd understand giving them up to free resources to focus more on Japanese games, which are Square's strength and what they've always been popular for. However, giving them up to focus on blockchain crap is stupid.

Re: Poll: Do You Buy and Play Single Player Story DLC?

Kogorn733

I'll buy it usually if I like the main game, but I really don't like standalone DLCs or DLC side stories, as I find it breaks the immersion and cohesiveness of the original game. I think that all story DLC should be integrated into the main campaign or game module.

Re: PSN Name Changes Coming Soon to PS4, According to Some Developers

Kogorn733

I will never understand why this is in such high demand. If, in your youth, you chose user names such as DarkFarter257, a$$machinkwakkwak, or feetuseater, you should be bound to those names for all eternity.

If you can't handle awkward questions about the origin of those names from your wives and children with good humor, I don't have much sympathy

Re: Soapbox: The Elder Scrolls Online Is an Underappreciated RPG Experience on PS4

Kogorn733

I tried TESO for several months after it was first released. Having been a huge fan of the elder scrolls series, I wanted to give it chance. I agree that the MMO combat and progression gameplay mechanics of the game are good, and that there is a huge, varied, world to explore. That being said, there were many things that eventually grated on me until I simply lost my ability to have passion for the game. Some of these things I probably felt because I was a huge fan of the series, and are a matter of personal preference.

(1) Too many aspects of the lore were butchered, retconned, or otherwise set forth in a way that made no sense, especially for those of use that have played Morrowind. People being allowed to settle on Vvardenfell other than the Temple? Dark Elves allied with Argonians? Yes, there are technical reasons behind the alliance, but they are dull and uninteresting. The whole set of three alliances mechanic seems like an excuse to allow for pvp, rather than a well-written piece of lore.

(2) The class system is bland and uninteresting, with few abilities. Very few of the classes actually have roots in elder scrolls lore in the context of previous games. There are two few class abilities, and the ones that do exist lack creativity.

(3) There's too much "everybody can do everything" going on. You can experience another part of the alliance's content, join any guild, have few drawbacks to becoming a vampire/werewolf, etc. This makes playthroughs bland and discourages playing through different factions

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

Kogorn733

The problem that I have with this review is not that it considers MG survive as it’s own thing outside the context and drama surrounding phantom pain.

The problem I have is that it fails to mention mitrotransactions at all, and the fact that the game “pushes” the boundaries of micro transactions by charging for save slots. I’m sorry, but the stigma of micro transactions should always be applied to the games that include them. We have to record and flag it, not ignore it unless it impedes gameplay, in order to track the issue and, yes, show some degree of protest.

An unspoken “acceptance” of micro transaction systems, regardless of their increasing frequency, is reprehensible.

@ohnoitsjade

Thank you for your reply. It would be nice though if there would be some way to add some information regarding the differences at least though, since that may be material to many people's decisions to purchase this one over the Vita one. For example, I might be far more inclined to purchase this one if the extra content was along the lines of, lets say, the caliber of the content added to Persona 4 Golden.

Also, I remember that the Vita version only had Japanese VO. Is it the same with this version? Or did they add localized voice acting?

Any information you could add would be very helpful. I apologize if my criticism came across as harsh, this just seems like a very big game, and the Vita version had some notable content and performance-related issues that I wasn't sure had been addressed.

Thank you!

Re: Review: Tokyo Xanadu EX+ (PS4)

This review is very short and not all too helpful considering the nature of the game, which is as an enhanced port of a Playstation Vita game. As someone who held off on buying the Vita version to see what this one had to offer, I was confused by how there was no discussion of the features that differed between the two versions, and how much they added to the game.

In addition, there is no discussion of the sound/music or voice acting, and very little discussion of the gameplay mechanics.

As someone who normally turns to Push Square for the thoroughness of its reviews, I'm a little disappointed.

Re: EA Pondering Subscription-Based Services Instead of Traditional Game Releases

Kogorn733

The only context in which I'd accept a games as a service model (other than with traditional MMORPGS) is with sports games, as sports games are based on the configuration of real life sports teams, and the rosters change regularly. For that, it makes sense. In addition, it makes sense for retro gaming I suppose, where the media for the games can be hard to find for reasonable prices, if at all.

Otherwise, I hate the as a service model and hope it doesn't take off.
