I think $70 is reasonable considering the cost of games these days. Voice talent, motion capture, robust multiplayer and long campaign, regular updates, these are all things we ask for that developers didn’t have to pay for before. Of course the cost will go up.
I bought this game early for the pre-order bonus of collectible pins at GameStop. I played the first hour and was already blown away by the graphics at that point. So I’m excited to play the PS5 version soon. Again all I was expecting was a fun 10 hour campaign where I get to play as the avengers and the occasional DLC that interests me. And I think it’s definitely worth a try if you’re at all interested in the subject matter.
Looking to buy this though I didn’t get far into the trilogy remaster. Is 4 harder, as hard, or easier than the trilogy. My skill level is this: hardest game I ever completed was Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze
I purchased the first game back when I was regularly trading in games at GameStop and I was so close to returning it after the first couple hours of playing. I wa even in the GameStop parking lot with my copy and at the last minute decided “No, I’m going to give it another chance and go deeper into the game.” So glad I did because it was a memorable experience and the sequel was sublime. One of the best games I ever played. I never did play the third one because of the bad buzz. Maybe I’ll finally complete the story now.
Downloaded it this morning from the PS app on my phone. I wonder if the app downloads the ps5 version only directly to my ps5 or if once I get into my console, I’ll have to pick between the two.
I bought this game for $34 usd on Amazon. Still got a hefty backlog but hoping by the time I’m able to cue this up, I can play a few hours without incident and complete the game once the ps5 upgrade drops
I’ve been gaming since Combat on the Atari 2600 and this is the first game I believe is a must play but I also can’t recommend to anyone. A truly bewildering experience for me.
Great controller! Probably Sony’s best. A little on the big side but that’s gotta be because of the components for the haptic feedback. And if looks beautiful in white with the clear buttons. It’s feels like a controller from the future!
@Papasears lately that seems to be the case. Wii was tough to find. 360, ps3 etc. but I do have fond memories of walking into a Kmart on the day of the Super Nintendo launch and there being a pallet of consoles just sitting there.
@KippDynamite that’s a big concern. I’m thinking the order 1886 which has a 5 hour campaign. I am fine paying full price for 8-10 hours but I know a lot of people aren’t. And yet because someone else demands more content to satisfy their demands, I feel like my time is wasted with grinding. Just my opinion
@Loftimus because I want to enjoy the story and the sense of completion. The grind isn’t the fun part of the game for me. So if there’s an option to skip some, I will absolutely take it
Why put “grind” in quotations? The game absolutely has grind elements if it’s anything like Odyssey. I barely have time to play, I absolutely buy the time saver and resource packs every AC game. I’m the guy who bought $10 of real money “gold” to get past the pirate in Odyssey. I don’t have 4 hours to collect money to pay her off just to advance. So yes, some of us will absolutely spend money to get less game so we can finish it and move on. And being time poor doesn’t affect those of you who have disposable income AND time to work through the grind so why do you all get so upset?
I quite enjoyed the show. Of course my wife and mother in law thought it was weird that there exists a “games award show” but they are far from the hobby. Seeing the orchestra perform the game themes and Eddie Vedder’s performance really made it memorable for me. And it’s cool to see games elevated as something to award like music and film. I fast forwarded through a lot but I still was glad I watched.
So I’m in a weird situation. I’ve dedicated 90% of my time toward Astrobot. Didn’t expect that. But I also bought miles morales with the remastered Spider-Man game. I started both to see which one would hold my interest more and now I’m not sure which Spider-Man game to play first. I’m think Miles just because it’s the newest and faster to finish.
I am really glad I played The Last of Us part 2. It was a great game. Beautiful, haunting graphics and a story that I still think about. I also think the Joel/Ellie scenes are some of the best writing in games.
However, I believe Druckman made some huge narrative mistakes and got intoxicated by game of thrones trend of “shocking deaths” over deaths that make thematic sense. You don’t kill iron man in the middle of iron man 2 in the spirit of being shocking and surprising. You kill him when it creates the most thematic value, when the death means something.
Joel’s death rang hollow for fans and many of them want Neil to hear them. Fans will often fight for characters that they feel connected to even if they didn’t create them. See “Misery”
However, it’s unfortunate that those people who are angry about Neil’s narrative decisions got roped together with transphobes and people who think girls can’t have muscles. Those people are scum and I hate that they have access to great art like Last of Us.
I haven’t played GoT so I can’t weigh in. I enjoyed Last of Us 2 but I agree it was flawed. Neil gets to make the game he wants. Fans get it have an opinion on it positive or negative
My 360 is STILL plugged into my tv because of Simpson’s, turtles, turtles in time, Scott pilgrim, MvC2, and X-Men. Man I wish those would come back out again on a console
@Texan_Survivor amy was far from a great writer. Her uncharted scripts were so repetitive. Every game was Elena getting mad at Nate and Nate lying. She was really bad at growing the characters.
I disliked the big creative decisions of this game. I found the story to be flawed and it was a dark game to get through during a dark year in real life but I have nothing but a good memory playing this game and I’m glad I bought it.
I’m in the U.S. but didn’t get my ps5 in the mail until the 19 so I felt a kinship to Europe. Astrobot is the killer app I didn’t expect. As someone who got laughed at when I brought my ps1 to college (everyone in my dorm were Sega guys) I felt strong nostalgia throughout Astrobot and felt like the game was for me. That game and the dualsense made my launch day feel magical just like ridge racer did on my ps1 and resistance on my ps3.
To me, the sweet spot is 1-2 years behind the industry. If you purchased a PS4 in 2015 instead of 2013 the quality games were more plentiful, cheaper, and the hardware was more tested. I however have always been an early adopter. And I do believe there has to be that smallgroup willing to pay a premium at launch to help move the tech and the hobby forward. People give their lives to these games. I’m happy to spend 10 bucks more to support my community of gamers and developers. And to help ensure we keep getting these big AAA experiences.
I’d hate to see the industry buckle and we regress in gaming experiences.
Last gen, the PS4 was more powerful and $100 less. So I think some people are expecting Sony to pull that move again and undercut. I don’t think they’re in a position to do that again and I think we’ll be fortunate if they’re able to match the price of $499 usd.
I bought an original playstation at launch in 1995. Saved my money all summer and picked it up at an EB Games at Foxhills Mall in Culver City, CA. I also had enough saved from my summer job to buy Air Combat, Gex, Ridge Racer, and Battle Arena Toshinden.
The other guys in my dorm laughed at me for buying Sony’s console. “Sony doesn’t know gaming they said.” They all has either Sega Saturns or Sega 32x in the rooms.
About a few weeks later they were all huddled in my room playing playstation. And they all bought their own later that semester. They never did apologize to me but I have fond memories of being a true early adopter of Sony.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PlayStation at Launch 25 Years Ago?
I bought an original playstation at launch in 1995. Saved my money all summer and picked it up at an EB Games at Foxhills Mall in Culver City, CA. I also had enough saved from my summer job to buy Air Combat, Gex, Ridge Racer, and Battle Arena Toshinden.
