Re: Déraciné - PSVR's New Narrative Gold Standard

Furtin

@get2sammyb Yes, but when its told so frustrating, unimmersive and unnerving through those „puzzles“, I for one can hardly talk about one of the best PSVR experiences.
If you strip the story from its gameplay mechanics, it might actually be good. But as I said: to each its own. So I just looked up the metacritics, to see if I‘m way off with my feelings but it seems its rather a „love or hate“ kind of experience, so there is that...

Re: Déraciné - PSVR's New Narrative Gold Standard

Furtin

@get2sammyb its not even close to a walking simulator, when you are in a beautiful environment but sadly are restricted to hop to interaction nodes. Not immersive. The puzzles arent logical at all, they are like those try and error principles from the 90s (is this supposed to go there or should I take the item to a person or what is this item supposed to do in the first place...). I‘m totally open to new experiences and Transpose or Transference are great examples for logic puzzles or immersive walking simulators, imho.
And I totally salute From Software to take a first step into the world of VR but the clunkyness, the try+error puzzles and the restricted movement makes it very unimmersive for me. And we havent even talked about the top immersion breaker aka loading screens! 🙄

Re: Déraciné - PSVR's New Narrative Gold Standard

Furtin

Woah! An 8. Really? You guys arent that much into VR, are you?! I mean, to each their own but this title is not even close to what VR is made for and would even make a very crude, restricting and old fashioned way(in terms of try and error without a logical process of what is supposed to work out) of experiencing a story in 2D. Let me tell you, those are the worst pennies spend on a PSVR title - and I have plenty...

Re: Review: Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)

Furtin

@get2sammyb no disrespect but I think you f*cked up the score pretty hard.
The game may have its issues but a 7 if not an 8 would have been a fair score. It may have its flaws and most of them are fixable but first of all its fun!
This game is what PSVR needs to get people invested and obviously gamers choose to, regarding the overall scores, videos and chitchat around the interwebs ...

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Co-Op Games

Furtin

Sadly this is just a co-op list as usual.
Was hoping for a couch co-op list. You know, where the real old-school fun its at ...

I guess I‘m just an old fart but online this and that will never beat a great couch co-op party, imho.

Re: Soapbox: I Miss the Mystery of Video Games

Furtin

Oh, one more thing: I remember so well a little software shop, where they had cassettes and disks on shelves. The shelves where labeld with Amiga, Atari and Commodore64/VC20.
You needed to judge by the artwork on the cover what a possible crap you are going to buy...😂

Re: Soapbox: I Miss the Mystery of Video Games

Furtin

sigh what a great, little article!
I remember all that way to good and keep those times very close to my gamer-heart. I try to relive those times by collecting old consoles, games and hopefully even more cabinets (if my wife isnt going nuts)😊

Another thing that bothers me nowadays is even kind of breaking my (and your) hobby: through the internet everyone knows immediately the price and value of everything!😓
There was a time where you had to hunt down games or even visit another country to check out what they have in store. Nowadays everything is just a few clicks away and the prices are more or less the same everywhere and since the rarity of items is laid out before our eyes on forums or ebay, there is no real thrill to hunt down a rare gem - you just plunge a ton of gold onto the market.

sigh
/turns around to play Streets Of Rage3

Re: Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR (PS4)

Furtin

SkyrimVR is the most immersive and mesmerizing videogame I ever played. This is Virtual Reality.

Ten years from now, when we will have better graphics, mobile and lighter headsets etc. we really might get „Oasis“ - the MMO from Ready Player One. I think Skyrim and Rec Room are pointing in the right direction...

This might even become a problem, because the time already flies in real life while diving into the virtual realm of Skyrim. Its a systemseller right here.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 195

Furtin

Since I canceled my Battlefront2 preorder, the money went straight to SkyrimVR. Never played it before and only knew the trailers. And what should I say, on my first attempt I played for six hours straight, paused to eat and then dived in for another five hours.

It is amazing! Never been in such an immersive environment and for me the perfect example of Virtual Reality in its truest sense of the word.

Re: Hardware Review: PSVR Review - Should You Buy PlayStation VR?

Furtin

@get2sammyb what an outstanding piece! Really great, bravo! The words you used to describe VR (the bubble surrounding you in 3D) is beautiful.

People need to try proper VR to experience it. I haven‘t met a single person who tried it and wasnt blown away in seconds.
Although I‘m already a VR veteran, I still get a kick out of new experiences and games. RE7, REZ and Superhot in VR are just completely new ways of entertainment - and the stuff of my dreams when I was a teenager!

What a great time to be there and follow the development of VR and MR.

Re: EA Already Promising Changes to Star Wars Battlefront 2 Following Fresh Loot Box Outrage

Furtin

Even a million cancelled pre-orders might still be peanuts. Considering the amount of money they are putting in marketing, the huge franchise and the “whales” that will more then make up for their cancelled pre-orders losses ...

Such a shame. Game looks beautiful. Why did they need to ruin it with such a broken and forced on P2W loot system?! Cosmetic stuff would’ve made them millions too.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2's Lootbox Fiasco Keeps Getting Worse

Furtin

The things is: you know the system is messed up when they are “continually adjusting”. Imagine being an early adopter pouring in the hours just to see the system adjusted and stuff set back that you worked on for a week?! And next week you are playing 10hours to unlock a hero (because you refuse to pay your way up) and the day after it will be free for all because they are tweaking the system?!

It’s a mess and I for one will wait it out a couple of weeks after release, to see how it develops.

Re: Soapbox: After the Vita's Failure, Why Do People Now Want Console Games on the Go?

Furtin

Great article! I‘m honestly also puzzled by the Switch numbers. I have a PSP and a Vita and I never used them on the go but in bed or on the couch (and even in the tub).

It must be the whole package: bigger HD screen with superb graphics, better and flexible controls and a full blown Zelda and Mariokart.

Really, I often wished for an even bigger screen on the Vita. Although Muramasa or Killzone look fantastic!

Re: Sony Increasing Move Manufacturing to Meet PlayStation VR Demand

Furtin

@get2sammyb „because developers won't be able to guarantee people own the right controllers“ ... makes total sense now.
Maybe even Sony was overwhelmed by the attach rate and didnt thought it through when they released PSVR.

I‘ll welcome PSVR 2.0 wholeheartedly but my guess is that it will be a long wait ...

Re: Sony Increasing Move Manufacturing to Meet PlayStation VR Demand

Furtin

@KingdomHeartsFan do you even own a PSVR? I‘m asking because how else will you be immersed into:

Job simulator or Superhot VR or Batman or Raw Data
... etc.

Edit: nonetheless, of course a whole new tracking system would be welcome but as it stands, for this gen Sony goes wirh what they already had in store and that is a visible light based system.

Re: Hands On: Moss Is a Divine Demonstration of What PlayStation VR Can Do

Furtin

I‘ll copy/paste what I wrote on reddit:
„I kid you not when I tell you, that my wife dislikes everything VR. She refuses to try GearVR a second time (after the amazing Ocean Rift). She tried PSVR once, a year ago.
When I started MOSS, I totally was: its so cute - she needs to try it! So she started playing it and coming from the Zelda universe, she instantly picked it up and played. And played. And played.
I was like: hey, you had enough, you will get dizzy, let me try it and so on.
End of story, she played it to the end and was like: I want to buy it, please buy it!

MOSS is absolutely BOSS!!!👍❤️“

This is an Instabuy.
Also: the Persistance btw.👌

Re: Housemarque Canning Coin-Op After Commercial Flops

Furtin

This is very sad news indeed. One of my most beloved developers turns its back on what it does best, just to go down the multiplayer route ... wow.
I just hope they will find their way (and money) to survive in this confusing gaming industry.

Re: Hands On: How Does Gran Turismo Sport Fare with PlayStation VR?

Furtin

Really, it is the utmost letdown of a tacked-on VR implementation. Utter, nonsensical crap.
Why is it that you can not drive freely for as many rounds as you like?
Why isnt there a timetrial and a leaderboard?
Why did a thirdparty studio like Codemasters managed to put out the fantastic Dirt Rally VR and a huge, Sony sponsored developer like PD only has this p!sspoor implementation?

It is utter poo, thats what it is.

Re: Ratings Board Rules That Loot Boxes in Games Aren't a Form of Gambling

Furtin

„We think of it as a similar principle to collectible card games: Sometimes you’ll open a pack and get a brand new holographic card you’ve had your eye on for a while. But other times you’ll end up with a pack of cards you already have.“

☝️Cards are real life items. You can trade, share and sell high value items. Doesnt work with a Battlefront2 crate, does it?

Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand on Microtransactions?

Furtin

random loot boxes that makes games literally P2W and therefore cater to the addictive sites in humans, needs to be put under legal control, imho. At least they need to be restricted.

These „games“ are nothing else than a slot machine. Just more shiny. Its gambling in its evil form but covered in sheeps clothing.
