Re: Talking Point: How's Your PlayStation VR Hype Holding Out?

Furtin

First of all: I love the polls on this site!

Rez (especially AreaX) and Thumper are so different in VR and really shine in the virtual world! Everyone should try them. Not for ten minutes, but really dive into them for a longer period of time to have this super immersive feeling. No video or whateversized flatscreen can give you the sense of beeing surrounded by those very special worlds! Think of fullfledged binaural sound and lowquality monosound and you get a slight idea of what a difference "being there" makes...

Those games are perfect for VR and the main reason I enjoy my PSVR.

Re: Video: Take a Peep at PlayStation VR Strategy Tethered

Furtin

@KAPADO Let me jump in, if you dont mind....
The PS4 has only one port to begin with, so you would need some sort of a splitter.

But the PS4 is already very busy to track signals from one camera (so it seems), having another would not only add up to more processing problems, but because its a visible light based tracking system, it would have problems to make out which signal is meant for each camera. Keeping in mind that the light situation in a PSVR room is already finnicky....

The Vive uses IR lasers and the Rift IR sensors. Thats why they arent interfering as much. Although, reading the Vive reddit from when it launched, it had massive tracking problems and needed a whole lot of optimisation.

And keep in mind: its still 1Gen. Lots of improvements will follow in the coming years. It just only has begun!😍

Re: Video: Take a Peep at PlayStation VR Strategy Tethered

Furtin

@get2sammyb well, lets say that they are most pronounced in JS. Because sometimes, if I dont do the power cycle, I also have it when I'm switching through two games while sitting close to the camera (1,5m). I really hooe someone at Sony would at least tell us that they are working on a fix. Because a lot of people I know have returned their PSVR and thats not a good start. Not in the slightest. I keep my fingers crossed thouh, because most games work great, especially Tumble with one Move controller at 1,5m. The thing is, when I reach back the controller starts to wobble. Whilst it remains steady when closer to the cam. Oh, well I might try something new this evening...πŸ˜„πŸ‘

Re: Video: Take a Peep at PlayStation VR Strategy Tethered

Furtin

I dunno. RT strategy games are usually not my cup of tea, so I'll pass. There are some more interesting titles on the way for me and since I've already sent a signal to Sony by spending a fortune on VR and their games and in pre-ordering the Pro, its just time to enjoy what I have as of now.

And keep adjusting and calibrating to lessen the wobble and drift issues ....

Re: Review: EVE: Gunjack (PS4)

Furtin

Super Galaxian(1979 zaccaria) cabinet owner here, so I'm already loving your review Graham! πŸ˜‰
I have it on the GearVR and now I need to buy it for the bigger brother, just to see how different it looks and feels. And to play through it again. Also, I remember that the difficulty curve was the same that you encountered, which really is unbalanced to say the least....

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 140

Furtin

@Neolit haha, yes - the dogfights get pretty intense! My mind is still confused how I can (virtually) move in such a manner through space.

I've played EVE Gunjack on the GearVR as a gaze shooter (where you look, it shoots) and it worked perfectly well. It's nice and arcadey if you long for short playsessions, although it kept me quite busy on the Gear VR, so that I had 3 stars on every Level. Maybe I'll give it a try on PSVR aswell, just to see how it looks with less screendoor effect and better FOV.

And Thumper. Thumper is my personal GOTY. When you are in the zone just perfectly reacting in this breathtaking speed! Sometimes its as if you're in a train where the brakes gone haywire and now you must get through it and bring it to a stop. Its so intense that I can only play relatively short sessions because I'm so exausted. Great thing is, that its never unfair and you just can pick it up and play where you left. (Although I recommend to be ready for the action)

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Tomb Raider Leaps into the Top 5 as PS4 Stays Strong

Furtin

@Boerewors I don't think so. They are usually much more related to "on the go" gaming than the western world. And normally the flats/houses are also smaller than ours, so it's dommon that you meet your friends outside. Often you coop in a monster hunter game with your buddys sitting in a cafe.

And then lets not forget that its relative steep. So for many people the question remains: should I buy a PS4(Pro) and a headset on top of that?!

Re: Review: EVE: Valkyrie (PS4)

Furtin

@glassmusic oh well, I see you joined the club!πŸ™„
One more thing: did you try to plug your headset into the PU without the extension cable (the one with the box on it)? On the forum is one guy who called Sony claiming that they are replaceing those cables and have problems with the PUs when mentioning drift ...

Re: Review: EVE: Valkyrie (PS4)

Furtin

@glassmusic

  • did you try a complete restart and also un- and replugged the power unit?
  • Have you calibrated your camera to the center field (leaving left and right alone) and made sure its levelled?
  • Have you done a trackinglight calibration on the headset?

Re: Review: EVE: Valkyrie (PS4)

Furtin

@KAPADO I have the same problem although I already own the full game. I love to be in space and its all so very well made but the twisting and turning battles are hard to take. I still try every day and sometimes it gets better. Its just so cool and I often just fly in singleplayer through the wreckage and such, just because I love ro be catapulted into space!😊

Re: Review: Here They Lie (PS4)

Furtin

I tried the demo and even I would love to buy this game, the motion sickness had me tearing off my headset after ten seconds or so.
Might be that there are people out there, who aren't prone to this sort of movement scheme but I much prefer the (Batman like) warp. Its even when I force myself to last for a couple of seconds longer that I get really sick to the point where I start sweating and feel miserable hours after stop playing.
I have started playing in VR since 2014, so I'm quite comfortable with the medium. But I just can not get myself to play games with the traditional FPS control mechanism.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PlayStation VR Titles Attack Top 40

Furtin

@Mahe so what? I predict Thumper and once released, Robinson and Farpoint will enter the top 10....

Still interesting how many VR only titles made it into the charts, with Rigs in 12th position, Eve and Battlezone on 20th and 28th respectively. I mean, they are full price titles on a relative small hardware installbase... chapeau!

Edit: GFK doesnt track download titles, do they? That would explain why Thumper and Rez didnt make it...

Re: Guide: How to Fix Blurry Images in PlayStation VR

Furtin

@Hordak no man, I'm supersteady thanks. I can also distinguish my pulse on the temples in the headset. You obviously didnt encountered this back and forward tracking issue. Even the controllers go back and forward when you hold them still.

Re: Guide: How to Fix Blurry Images in PlayStation VR

Furtin

@get2sammyb no, I eliminated all of them. Actually I just started Jib Sim again and when I mive through the office wall (where the phone sits) into the next desk, its all super steady. Even the move controllers are really steady and very good tracked. (I'm around 1,30,-1,50m by then).

When I move to the point that is required to play, it all goes downhill...

Re: Video: Another Brick Through the Wall in SuperHyperCube on PS4

Furtin

@JaxonH Phil Fish needs the support, imo. I think polytron's games are great pieces of software. And super hypercube is super sleek. The sounds are spot on and so are the reduced graphics.

But yeah, most arent willing to spent €28. If it would be €14,99 it would triple sales, imo.

Re: Guide: How to Fix Blurry Images in PlayStation VR

Furtin

And some people actually need to measure/set their IPD in the Playstation VR settings to get a clean and (realtively) sharp image.

@get2sammyb
I have a huge problem with the wobbling (back and forth) that occured in the giant bomb video. I took to the PSVR subreddit where I found out that others are also having trouble. Please do you have any idea or can you get in contact with a Sony representative, if they have knowledge of that issues. And hopefully a solution.

I did the following:

  • set the camera in various places and angles (yes and the lenses are clean)
  • various distances, sitting and standing (the best results are around 1,50meters!). Playing job simulator is nigh to impossible since everything falls apart (move controllers arent tracked correctly and move heavily back and forth)
  • in darkness, dim light and daylight.
  • did dozens of calibrations and restarts and new hdmi-cables.

Sometimes it works if I'm really close to the camera but then playing Tumble is next to impossible and so is batman and job simulator and such....

Please help Sammy Barker, you are our only hope! 😟

Re: PlayStation VR Will Play Host to More Than Just Games

Furtin

I would love to have more relaxing Apps. On my GearVR I have an App its called Tiny Island and what you do, is just laying down on atiny island, listening to the waves and the birds and watching the sun set and rise again. (You can actually even set the speed for earths rotation). Something like this on a higher end system must be really soothing.....

Re: Review: Thumper (PS4)

Furtin

Call me crazy but Thumper is my personal game of the year. For a rythm game, it is so new and unseen in its complete package ranging from the industrial sound to the feverish artstyle. And never ever have I had this sense of speed in anything else before (when playing in VR mode). Its a piece of art.

This, REZ and Batman alone make a PSVR worth it, IMO.

Re: Hands On: Does PlayStation VR Really Have Tracking Issues?

Furtin

I have the exact same wobbling/tracking issues when I stand/sit around 2,5-3meters away from the camera (which is required for job simulator).

But when I'm at close range, like 1-2meters the tracking works perfectly fine and no wobbling what so ever.

I tried various lighht combinations and camera setups. Doing always a complete shutdown of the console etc.

I dont think that I have a faulty unit because this problem seems to occur to many others on the reddit/psvr forum...

Thats really sad and I couldnt work out a solution.

Re: Review: Rez Infinite (PS4)

Furtin

Very well deserved the praise! Although on the nausea side I think the bossfight in level 3 is hard to take in, because it constantly rotates and you are moving sideways...

Anyhow, it's so great to see that the game has finally arrived at it's true artform!

If anything comes close, it must be Thumper! (My personal favorite of the year, especially in VR)

Re: Opinion: Which PlayStation VR Launch Games Should You Buy?

Furtin

@blourf
What? How is the launch lineup a joke? Man, when you aren't interrested in VR thats one thing. But EVE, Batman, Thumper (and yes, in VR its like another game and so much better), Battlezone are great games. If you arent into Job simulator and Drivelub of course. Like I said, you probably arent into VR...

Re: Talking Point: What's Your PlayStation VR Launch Experience Been Like?

Furtin

I love it so far. It has some shortcomings mainly with the cameratracking, some jitter and the low resolution. But confronted to my GearVR it has a way higher FOV. Must depend on the distance to the lenses, since I'm very close to both Headsets.

I tried so many games as of now, manage to have a short lunch before I dive into it again. Its great!

My favorites:
Batman, REZ, Thumper (those three are just amazing in VR)
I had less motion sickness as expected in Driveclub and EVE Valkyrie and both are really good games. I didnt mind the downgraded Driveclub graphics so much and had a moment where I parked my Ferrari under a tree where the sunrays hit the dirty windhield and I felt a strong presence and had a really good time....

Re: Review: DriveClub VR (PS4)

Furtin

Yes, now that I drove around, I must say that its not as bad as I expected it to be! Neither on the graphics nor on the motion sickness side....
And as Biolan said: I didnt even got my wheel out.

Re: Review: DriveClub VR (PS4)

Furtin

@fybyfyby thanks man.
I'm now waiting for the courier. Minutes feel like hours. Hours feel like days.
I'm totally ten years old at this point.πŸ˜‚

Btw. How's the motion sickness? There seem a lot of comments around about how people get horribly sick after a short amount of time...

Re: Review: DriveClub VR (PS4)

Furtin

Man, that reads like a huge bummer for me. Being all for racing games in VR, I thought that would be a great experience, especially with a wheel and pedals. But your point of the fuzzy unsharp road ahead makes it totally understandable, because the lack of resolution. So everything that is near you, is way sharper and much more detailed than what is in the distance...

Oh well, since I already downloaded it for €20, I try to calm myself down and hope for a more fitting racing title (btw. what is Project Cars planning on PSVR?)

Re: Opinion: Which PlayStation VR Launch Games Should You Buy?

Furtin

I must say thank you Push Square (and especially Sammy) for the work you put into your videos. They are really helpful and seem more like listening to a friends oppinion rather a full blown website. Just registered now, after following your VR run-up on youtube. Keep it up, its great stuff!
