Re: 'A Great Showcase for PSSR 2': PS5 Pro's New Upscaler Continues to Get Rave Reviews

Feffster

@scottXedgar - I agree. It’s better but far from perfect - right from when you arrive in Bright Falls there’s obvious aliasing on the aircon unit near the car and you only need to take a few steps towards town, look right and you can’t fail to see the shimmering all over the fence by the water. Before you take the stairs down to the morgue the wall ahead is covered in shimmering speckles.

Surprised that DF didn’t mention any of this but hopefully Sony will continue to improve PSSR.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update with Anticipated PSSR 2 Toggle Available Now

Feffster

Quick look at GT7 before work -

Downloaded update and have PSSR2 enabled in the menus.

A few laps of Lake Louise. I use bumper cam (with rear view mirror).

New PSSR is an improvement over old PSSR but image quality is still better when PSSR is switched OFF - 4K TAA solution reduces aliasing on trackside fences & thin objects like trackside lights.

Anyway, there appears to be some improvement for those with PSSR on (drivers who use the cockpit view with RT reflections). Aliasing is reduced, just not as much as the TAA alternative. Maybe GT7 will get its own patch down the line.

Looking forward to more testing and trying with other games.

Re: First Crimson Desert PS5 Pro Analysis Calls It 'A Phenomenal Experience'

Feffster

Why did DF receive a copy using PSSR1 (when we already have a game, available now (RE Requiem) using the shiny new PSSR2)? Seems odd it’s not being used already.

Anyway, looks pretty solid - except some obvious lod pop-in, frame rate drops in busy areas and a few PSSR anomalies.

Will be interesting to see how base PS5 & XSX compare.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today, Here's What It Does

Feffster

@MrRhysReviews - I noticed this always pops up when I play EA WRC (on 5Pro). I never screen record or capture and also have both turned off - but the notification still pops up.

In unrelated update news - GT7 update is also now available (15GB) EDIT - can be downloaded but not installable until 4.12.25 @8:00

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 May Be the Most Expensive PS5 Game to Date

Feffster

I’d advise caution to PS5 owners thinking of buying - not because of the price, but because I’d be waiting for reports on whether or not it works.

I enjoyed MS Flight Sim 2020 (and then Anniversary edition) on Series X but this 2024 version had a terrible launch and many (myself included) simply couldn’t get it to work - even after several updates.

The 2020 version installs to the console but this 2024 edition relies heavily on streaming - so if your broadband speed isn’t up to it then it simply will be unplayable.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 605

Feffster

Just finished Until Dawn on PS5Pro - glad to say it got better towards the end and decent graphics & sound throughout. A nice recent addition to PS Plus Extra.

Wandered into town while my car was being fixed on Thursday and picked up CoD MW (2019) for £3 at CEX. I know a lot of people love to hate CoD, but I’m really enjoying the campaign so far (playing on Series X).

Have a good one all, happy gaming.

Re: Rumour: Halo 2, Halo 3 Remakes Also Purportedly Planned for PS5

Feffster

@themightyant - Gears remaster was £40 so expect that as a minimum. I’d guess they’ll go in at £50-£60 for this (as it’s their most treasured IP).

But unless they iron out the framerate drops and hitches I’ll stick to the £7.49 MCC on XSX thanks but if they do a good job then Halo 1,2,3, Reach and Infinite are all worthy games for the same treatment.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 604

Feffster

PS5Pro - yet more Cyberpunk 2077 & Ghost of Tsushima (100+ hours combined so far and loving every minute of both). Also playing one chapter of Until Dawn each evening - what a complete yawn fest so far…I’ll carry on in the hope it improves but more in hope than expectation. Anyway, glad it’s a PS plus title and not a purchase.

XSX - yesterday’s announcement made me fire up Halo MCC and play through the Silent Cartographer level and also replayed a few levels of Halo Infinite -this morning - looks, sounds and plays great, especially in 120hz mode. Halo 1,2,3, Reach & Infinite all great games and definitely ripe for Unreal 5 upgrade/ports to PS5. Not bothered so much for 4&5 and ODST.

Happy gaming all, have a good one 👍

Re: Remedy Upgrades Control with PS5 Pro Support, New Patch Out Now

Feffster

@wildcat_kickz - I took a quick look at the patched game earlier. I’m sure DF will do a proper analysis but from what I could see in 30m of gameplay with PSSR on you get a lot more aliasing issues - you can really see these in the early cut scenes and the fact that you can pause the cut scenes, turn off PSSR and then see the difference (ie a big reduction in the aliasing issues) shows that it’s not a great implementation. It’s not all bad by any means - PSSR seems to be giving a slightly sharper image imo, and the patch notes say it gives more detail to areas such as hair, so it depends on which issues bother you as to whether you keep PSSR on or turn it off (exactly like the options in AWII). There’s also improved reflections on Pro (but sadly no RT in performance mode).

I’m usually happy with PSSR/Pro upgrades but I’m not seeing a huge bump with this patch….but to be fair the game already ran at a smooth 60fps and looked pretty decent on base PS5/XSX.

Re: Rumour: To Avoid Even More PS5 Price Increases, Digital Edition to Get Reduced SSD Space

Feffster

What a perplexing decision. How much can this actually save Sony? All it can save is the difference between an 825GB SSD and a 1TB one - how much is that?….$10-15 maybe per unit…and likely substantially less seeing as Sony buy huge numbers of such components. Then there’s the added cost of redesigning and reprinting the literature, boxes, etc for these consoles.

Surely it would be far easier just to raise the price by a (very) small amount per PS5.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for September 2025 Announced

Feffster

@Dan12836666 - not as good as Series X. It is the PS4 version, so no 120fps and longer load times, lower visual fidelity (no HDR for example) and no VRR support either. Still a good game though, just a bit odd they didn’t make a native PS5 version.

Re: August 2025's PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available to Download Now

Feffster

@Gremio108 - good news….issue now resolved. I had an email from PlayStation Support this morning and they have removed the conflicting licence that was attaching to the game. I now have the option to purchase. The bad news is that it’s no longer on sale, but I’ve added it to my Wishlist and will buy the next time it is back on sale.

I got nowhere with the online chat ‘bots’ - if anyone else finds themselves with a similar issue I suggest you give Sony U.K. a ring on the number in my above post.

Re: August 2025's PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available to Download Now

Feffster

@Gremio108 - thanks mate and sorry to hear you’ve also got problems. I managed to track down a telephone number for Sony PlayStation in the U.K.- 020 3538 2665. They have looked at the issue and have promised to get back to me with a solution (I now also have a case number, so hopefully it’ll be easier to go back to them on this if needed). It does seem ridiculous - I can’t be the only person who wants to buy this title and now can’t (because it was previously on PS Plus). In the meantime I’m downloading the XSX version on Gamepass, but would ideally prefer to pay and play for the PS5Pro version as I’ve started a game there and it looks superb on that system.

Re: August 2025's PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available to Download Now

Feffster

@Michael2008ish - thanks Michael. Yes, that option works for some titles (I recently bought God of War 2018 that way, despite it being on PS Plus)….but sadly there’s no suitable option for Jedi Survivor. It insists I ‘own’ the Standard or Deluxe versions and there’s no option to buy them. The only purchase option I can get to is for the “cross-gen bundle edition”….but that’s for Jedi Fallen order AND Jedi Survivor (I don’t need/want Fallen Order as well). Also, that version is currently £79.99; so obviously it doesn’t make sense to buy it when Jedi Survivor is often priced @ £13.99.

Re: August 2025's PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available to Download Now

Feffster

Sword of the Sea & Spidey for me.

Slightly off-topic but not completely!...(help please if you can):

Star Wars Jedi Survivor left the service today. I like the game but haven't completed it. I'd like to buy the game but the system insists I already own it (which I do not). Tried deleting and purchase but that doesn't work. Contacted PlayStation support who suggest I must let my subscription lapse in order to be able to buy the game. Slight problem....I'm subscribed until November 2026!!

Is there another way?

....help please!

Re: Call of Duty HQ Size Reduction Gives Modern Warfare 3 a Platinum Trophy Two Years Late

Feffster

This is an absolute s h1 t show….

Before the update I had CoD HQ installed (XSX) with BO6 and MWII campaigns installed - total 165GB + 25GB reserved space (190GB);

Now to have the same content installed I need 136.8GB on the COD app for BO6 + 25GB reserved, PLUS another 110.2GB just for MWII campaign (and no doubt it will want to reserve another 25GB the minute I’ve downloaded the game and load my save).

So prior to the update the same installed content was 190GB, now it is a minimum of 272GB and likely more when MWII reserves space once it is fired up.

You literally couldn’t make this s##t up!

Re: Sony Job Listing Implies More PS5 Exclusives Will Be Ported to Xbox, Nintendo

Feffster

I guess they looked at the actual data from games like MLB The Show, Death Stranding and Helldivers 2 pre orders and found that Xbox owners do occasionally buy the odd game or two (despite what the forums say!)…..enough to make it worth their while porting games over anyways. And Switch is too big of a market to simply ignore.

More games everywhere is good news - I’ve never understood the juvenile fascination of being in love with a particular plastic box.
