Sony has started to roll out the new PS5 firmware update which includes transformative new features for its supercharged PS5 Pro console.
While the platform holder has warned the system software will proliferate worldwide over the “coming days”, you can attempt to force download it by manually checking for an update in the system settings.
If you’re not sure how to do that, select Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software.
If the console tells you you’re already up to date, then you can always try again later.
As previously reported, several titles will be updated specifically to take advantage of PSSR 2, like Silent Hill F and Final Fantasy Rebirth.
Others will take advantage of a universal toggle in the Screen and Video section of the Settings menu.
This will attempt to force the improved upscaler into existing software not specifically patched to take advantage of it.
Sony stresses that this can cause unintended issues, so while we’re sure the feature’s been tested rigorously, it’s worth remembering you can disable it if you’re not happy with the results.
Overall, though, this is a highly anticipated update for the PS5 Pro which promises to realise the mid-gen upgrade’s full potential.
System architect Mark Cerny always said that the console’s upscaler would improve, and that’s playing out in real-time here.
The most exciting news for all PlayStation fans is that this represents the product of its ongoing relationship with AMD as part of its Project Amethyst alliance, and therefore the results here will also almost certainly benefit PS6, whenever that releases in the future.
