How would you feel about paying $40 for the port of a PS3 title released in 2010, that doesn't come with any extra bells or whistles like its DLC packs?
That's what Activision could be bringing to the table as it ports Call of Duty: Black Ops and its sequel to PS5 in July. The two FPS classics won't be getting Xbox Series X|S versions, presumably since the backwards compatible editions exist on the Xbox Store already, but they've received pricing updates that could reflect the publisher's PS5 plans.
Both the original game and Black Ops 2 sell for $39.99 on the Xbox Store, and that's just the base game; you don't get any DLC or map packs with them. The listings for those add-ons have actually received price cuts on the Xbox Store, with the map packs dropping from $15 to $10 each and the season pass giving you access to them all going from $50 down to $30.
This is actually positive news, as it documents price reductions for content. However, as Activision is promising basic PS5 ports of a PS3 game that reportedly won't have any technical improvements whatsoever, a potential $80 purchase for two 15-year-old games sounds like a tough pill to swallow to me.
On top of that, Call of Duty games rarely go on sale at a meaningful reduction. The titles never seem to go for anything less than 50% off, and you have to wait a year or two for that kind of sale to come around.
