@judgmentarrows Which would be dreadful for consumers. Sony and Nintendo are arguably the best at what they do. Competition between them and success between them drives innovation to create the PlayStation games you love so much.
Willing to give Nintendo and Sony the benefit of the doubt here. Nintendo is so risk-averse to non-gaming utilization of their properties that I’m sure they’ve extended a lot of trust to Sony for this one. Which… all of this is still weird to say 🤣
@AdamNovice That was me in the early 2000s. My parents weren’t keen on buying more than one or two game consoles and Sony scorned them with a bad warranty on a TV so the Sony brand was viewed as toxic by them. Nintendo/Sega then Nintendo/Xbox it was. I had to borrow my friend’s PS2 to play Final Fantasy games when I grew up playing them on Nintendo.
AI has become unavoidable. That being said, I absolutely do not trust any of these companies to utilize it ethically. Imagine the soulless filth EA will have ready with this technology.
@thechetearly Yes! Seriously! Maybe some QoL upgrades by then but I’m totally fine with Sony doing what Nintendo did with the Switch 2 Pro Controller: Essentially same device, same layout, same reliability, cleaner feel, better quality.
I hope the game is excellent and launches on PC, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2 with cross platform multiplayer. I’m a huge Nintendo nerd and PlayStation fan but I love me some Halo!
People are working two jobs to feed their kids and this do**hbag just haphazardly gets on a plane and flies to another country to be a giant manchild because he wants more preview content for his favorite murder simulator. Good god.
This dude has been talking out of his backside for innumerable console generations now and he rarely hits the mark. He’s one of those people that spits out complete nonsense almost every time you see his name. At this point, he’s as predictable as death and taxes.
Twin Snakes on the GameCube gave it a breath of fresh air back in the day. It’s very much a game with a solid foundation to improve on. Nintendo did it once, Konami can do it again. Include the VR Training though.
I love that they’re doing this. I’ll be sticking to PC for this, but it’s fun and can elicit all sorts of emotions traveling through the real world. The more folks with access to this, the better I say.
TBH, I think I’ve bought more “Xbox” games on Nintendo and PlayStation lately than an actual Xbox or Pc.
@Ricky-Spanish Respectfully, I think it matters more these days. With increased costs across multiple industries, inflation, tariffs, and families having to guard their wallets more than usual during this economic uncertainty for the average person, I’m honestly not surprised people have to pick and chose a bit more these days.
100% a Switch 2 game for me regardless of exclusivity time. For me, Nintendo and Sony have carved out unique places in my gaming heart. Seriously, PS5 + Switch 2 can’t go wrong. Xbox is porting their games to those platforms anyway. Sending positive vibes to Supergiant and Nintendo for giving this series life.
I don’t really see Cloud as exclusively a PlayStation icon these days as he has been ever-present on Nintendo platforms for a while now, even as a guest in Smash Brothers. That being said, his history with the PlayStation brand is indisputably important and should have been in AstroBot at launch but.. ya know, SE and all.
I 100% appreciate PlayStation fans wanting Sony to take a measured, cautious approach to ports. After seeing Microsoft’s strategy cause people to rethink the value of Xbox hardware and the endless rounds of layoffs the Xbox brand is experiencing, their hesitancy to see Sony port and publish games on Xbox is valid. With that, the SONY IS DOOMED quotes in this article are reactionary and excessive. It’s one game and it not even one of their cinematic single player masterpieces that sell PlayStations.
Looking at floundering Xbox console sales but flourishing game sales, Microsoft is making good on their promise to support PlayStation, Nintendo, and competing streaming services as well as continued PC support. Xbox consoles could go away tomorrow and Microsoft would still be one of the biggest names in the game. Now all eyes should be on seeing if Microsoft is going to be able to make GamePass make sense for the industry and profitability. I have my doubts, but meanwhile I do not mind being able to use the service.
The thing about the extreme level of negativity is that not a single person here at home, at work, or in any of the friend groups on and offline have foamed at the mouth about this series. I do find it difficult to believe that most of the negative reviews are for legitimate reasons like maybe not liking a particular actor’s portrayal of a character. I have disliked shows and games that most people loved but it was never for something as infantile and pathetic as culture war reasons or someone’s appearance.
@joeyflannel I can understand that to an extent. I did relate Final Fantasy to PlayStation for a long time until the GBA came out (makes me feel old).
My first Resident Evil game was RE2 on N64, then Zero and RE 1 remake on GameCube, then 4 exclusive to GC, then the ports of 2 & 3 on GC. RE has strong Nintendo roots for me.
Crash Bandicoot does still resonate “PlayStation” for me, but feels strange that he’s technically a Xbox mascot now.
I’m a very platform agnostic guy with a big place in my heart for Nintendo games but let’s be real, this game is going to sell best on PlayStation and PC. Hell, it might sell better on an eventual Switch 2 port than Xbox. I know hardcore Xbox fans are upset at this direction, but Microsoft’s games do really well on PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo. I would rather have these games readily available everywhere than watch them die marooned on the Xbox island. Minecraft on Switch and Indiana Jones on PlayStation are good examples.
Nintendo and Sony are going to clean house in the next generation just like they are now but phones and tablets are going to play a big role going forward. This is one reason that Nintendo’s hybrid model is working so well. It would be cool to see Sony go further in adopting the Switch 2 as their handheld of choice. I would love to see those two play nice with this challenging new landscape that they are both respectively doing well to navigate in their own ways. I don’t want either Nintendo or PlayStation to end up like Xbox.
I had to experience PS2 retroactively even though I was born before the SNES was released. My parents purchased me a PS2 in 2000 and three months later, the disc drive died. Sony refused to repair it for free. Not sure why, I was young. To this day, my parents refuse to purchase anything with the name “Sony” on it. We quickly became a GameCube + Xbox household. The cool thing is I’ve been able to have experiences for the first time over the last 20 years of my life and some of my friends have coveted that first exposure to so many classics. These days, I’m very much a platform-agnostic gamer with a proclivity towards Nintendo games but the PS2 had a stellar library.
Some comments above lay fair criticisms but I will say this worked on my wife. The only game she plays is Mario Kart. Otherwise she is a sports freak. She became obsessed with Sonic and Shadow and now wants to play this game. Hook. Line. Sinker.
Definitely wouldn’t say it was better than Odyssey. Odyssey took more of my time, puzzle solving, and platforming know how to eventually beat. It was an extremely rewarding experience. Astro Bot was fabulous but I finished it quickly and the challenge wasn’t quite as robust as Odyssey. But who cares what was better? Both games have a special place in my heart. Sony needs more of this.
I’m obsessed with my PS5 but Nintendo is where most of my gaming time goes. I love Mario and this game made me feel that same exciting experience that mainline Mario games offer. I absolutely loved this game. I played it from beginning to end and more. It was such a knockout and I wouldn't complain seeing PlayStation develop more platforming titles like this with this level of quality.
@BasedBear Agreed 100%. I play Nintendo more than I do anything else and own all three major consoles. I remember that Xbox 360 forced Sony to make more consumer-driven decisions just like PS4 forced Microsoft to abandon their always online DRM aspirations in 2012. Any company going unchallenged sucks for consumers.
Games like Concord feel like a theme that has been overused. They feel tired. It wasn’t because of mechanics, marketing, whatever the Hell “woke” means, or anything like that. It just felt done already.
